The DT-75M tractor is a development of the Volgograd plant. Production began in 1963, and since then over 2.5 million units have been produced. The excellent operational and technical characteristics of the DT-75M, especially on weak-bearing, swampy soils and poor cross-country ability, have ensured its great popularity.
The machine is a tracked tractor belonging to traction class 3. The equipment is considered reliable, economical, maintainable and universal in operation.
Where is it used?
The DT-75M tractor is intended for construction work when constructing pits for large-scale projects, in the forestry industry, public utilities and agriculture. It can often be found in the fleet of industrial enterprises. Thanks to its technical capabilities, it copes well with moving and dragging soil masses using a straight blade. The design of the DT-75M tractor allows you to load soil into a dump truck after installing a spherical blade, work with trailed equipment and various loads weighing up to 3 tons.
Description of the DT-75 tractor
Engine Description
The DT-75M tractor has an A-41I model engine of 94 hp. s./69 kW. Later they began to use D-245.552 motors (95.2 hp/70 kW), which are also installed in other trucks. Both types of engines have a technical design with an arrangement of 4 cylinders in a row. At peak operating load, crankshaft speeds are 1750 rpm and 1800 rpm for each model. Fuel enters the engine from a fuel tank with a capacity of 315 liters.
Engine A-41
The liquid cooling system is working. The working volume of the A-41I engine is 7.43 liters, and that of the D-245 is within 4.75 liters, which indicates a decrease in fuel consumption of a four-stroke diesel engine. The numbers confirm this:
- for the A-41I, fuel consumption will be 227 g/kWh or 167 g/l. s.h;
- for D-245 it is 220 g/kWh or 162 g/l. s.h.
Engine lubrication system D-245
At maximum load, the tractor has a torque reserve of 15% with the first engine and 25% with the second.
The manufacturer's latest technical developments include the installation of a pre-heater to start the main engine in cold weather.
Device
The presence of long-stroke hydraulic cylinders allows us to minimize the level of working pressure in the hydraulic system. As a result, the service life increases and overall productivity increases.

The total weight of the bulldozer complete with main equipment is kept at 7.4 tons. If optional elements are installed, this total weight of the machine will tend to increase.
Driver's cabin
Manufacturers have taken good care of implementing high-quality sound insulation of the driver's cabin. In many ways, they managed to achieve this thanks to the maximum tightness of the connections. As a result, an optimal temperature regime is created inside the cabin at any time of the year. As an option, this element can be additionally equipped with a heating system or air conditioning.
Instruments and steering mechanisms inside the cabin are located in accordance with all ergonomic requirements. It should be noted that there are no additional elements that could interfere with the normal control process.
However, there are no corresponding direction indicators on the main dashboard. Some features also include the absence of rear-view mirrors. The driver will have to rely on his instincts.
Engine
The DT75 crawler bulldozer is equipped with a four-stroke hydraulic cylinder engine, the rated power of which is kept at 95 hp. The power device component is manufactured by a company from Finland. A special feature of such units is the presence of a pre-heater, the presence of which facilitates the process of starting the engine even at minimum temperatures.
The multi-speed gearbox has 10 forward speeds and 5 reverse speeds. This allows the DT75 to be used in various conditions. This transmission, working in tandem with the engine, allows you to minimize fuel consumption. So, one hour of work may require 15 liters of fuel. The DT75 crawler bulldozer is capable of speeds of up to 12 km/h.
Attachments
Attachments are installed on the DT75 bulldozer tractor depending on the specifics of the work being carried out. Various manufacturers offer a fairly wide range of optional installations. Some are used for agricultural purposes or in snow clearing.
There are modifications of the DT75 with a rotary or stationary blade. The width of this element is 2520 mm. In this case, the height of the equipment is equivalent to 800 mm. In most cases, the blade is installed for the purpose of subsequent road cleaning.
Transportation problem
The design features of the bulldozer significantly facilitate the process of transporting the DT75 through the use of railway platforms. But given the fact that not all objects can be connected to a railway track, manufacturers have taken care of an alternative method of delivering special equipment. Here we are talking about transportation by road. In this case, it may be necessary to use a trailer with a low frame.
About the gearbox
The mechanical transmission of the DT-75M tractor has retained its original design. This is a four-way, seven-speed gearbox. The main load falls on the gears without shifting. The drive allows the machine to move at a speed of 5.5-9.5 km/h.
DT-75 gearbox gear shift diagram
It is possible to operate with minimal movement at 0.34 km/h by connecting a creeper. In this case, the highest speed will be 11.5 km/h. Equipping with a reverse gearbox expands the possibilities of using the equipment, but without changing the speed range.
The technical design of the clutch mechanism has been preserved from the base model DT-75, where a dry single-disc clutch is mounted, which is constantly closed. The gearbox is a monolithic cast housing that protects the mechanics from contamination. It is combined with the rear axle, which is driven by two planetary, single-stage devices. The use of planetary coupling reduces the load on the turning lever system and makes tractor control more convenient.
Stopping is provided by a band brake that operates when moving forward and backward.
The standard assembly includes a power reduction shaft rotating at 540 rpm. Optionally, a device with 1000 rpm can be installed.
Technical characteristics for agricultural machinery
Studying the detailed operating instructions for the DT-75 tractor, one can note a number of important data that did not exist for other types of similar agricultural machinery.
“The first models of wheeled vehicles were designed with diesel engines of the SMD14 brand, which had a labor force of 75 horsepower, and the total engine hours were about 3000.”
A little later, a decision was made to modernize the power plant, which had improved power parameters of up to 80 horsepower and about 4 thousand engine hours - SMD-14NG.
The main technical characteristics of the DT-75 tractor are presented in the table:

To work in difficult winter conditions, an enhanced cold start mode for the propulsion system was provided. Over the entire history of the existence of the tractor, it was modernized several times, several modifications were released, and only from the second generation of the DT-75M tractor did the technical characteristics acquire modern shape.
Modifications of tractor special equipment
Throughout the entire period of production of special equipment, a number of models and modifications were produced, which in some cases repeated each other, but without affecting the fundamental structure of the DT-75M tractor.
Standard tractor model DT-75
- Model DT-75B, in the classification there is a letter value B, indicating that this model of the DT-75 tractor has a high-speed version. This series had increased track width and a powerful second-generation SMD-14NG engine. The design of the equipment was equipped with special pallets, which were intended for peat mining and for working in swampy areas. The trays protected the main structure of the transmission.
- Model DT-75K. This series was designed to work on steep mining and exploration slopes, and the speed of the DT-75 tractor was low due to working conditions in a number of industries and other industries that required steep ascents and descents for work. The seats in the operator's cabin received a new look - they were located opposite each other.
- The DT-75N model was a modernized version of agricultural machinery, which received a number of changes compared to the M series. The series has been produced since 1984, and only in Volgograd.
- Model DT-75S. This type of machine had all the outlines of a bulldozer and its structural elements. The power plant used was a 6-cylinder diesel engine of the SMD-66 series, with a total operating power of 170 hp.
- Model DT-75D. this series had improved characteristics of the diesel engine, which only in this series had a power of 94 horsepower. Type and brand of diesel engine A-41I.
- Model DT-75ML. This type of equipment was produced only in Pavlodar (at one time there was an idea to give a new marking to the car, but I had to agree with the status of the copyright holder of the brand). The vehicle had an updated technological lining of the engine compartment, while the operator's cabin was visually and technically expanded, the height increased from the design 2304 mm to the new 2924 mm
An interesting fact will be the information that only in Pavlodar it was possible to reduce the load capacity of the DT-75 tractor, due to the introduction of new and advanced technologies of that time. Pavlodar versions of special equipment were constantly tested, on the basis of which a decision was made on the question of how much the DT-75 tracked tractor weighs, by replacing the tracked version with a wheeled type of construction of specialized equipment.
About the manufacturers
Unfortunately, the economic turmoil in Russia and the instability of the economy of Kazakhstan forced the complete suspension of tractor production (in Pavlodar, production was suspended in 1998, Volgograd managed to hold out production until 2009). The main reason was that many units and components had to be purchased from the countries of the former Union, where many enterprises suspended the production of some components; there was no analogue production in these countries.
Who replaced the popular tractor?
Taking into account the continuing demand for special equipment, it was decided to develop an analog version, but in Kurgan (Russian Federation). Here DT-75 received a new name “VT-90”, or has another name Agromash-90TG, which has a completely modernized version. In addition, we managed to develop analogue series of machines, which received working names:
- A-41SI-02, manufactured by Altai Motor Plant. Power 95 horsepower.
- D-245.5S2, manufacturer Minsk, power 110 l/hp.
- Sisu 44-DTA, the machine has a power of 94 horsepower. Production in the Vladimir region, under an official license from Finland.
As you can see, although the legend of the domestic tractor industry has disappeared, its followers have appeared who were able to develop improved versions of special equipment compared to the original version. Buyers are happy with the new equipment, but they say with nostalgia that in terms of a number of technical parameters, the “daughters” of the tractor cannot surpass their ancestor, the DT-75 tractor.
Chassis
The running gear is a tracked mechanism with installed guides and drive wheels. The basic, load-bearing element is track chains mounted on support rollers, which have a rubber band. This also includes 4 balancing carriages. The weight of the DT-75M tractor is capable of exerting a specific pressure of about 47 kPa on the ground surface.

Cabin
The first samples of the DT-75 could hardly boast of the comfort and technical equipment of the cabin. Later, in the DT-75M it became more convenient, like a car. The viewing angle has increased significantly by shifting the frame axis to the right. Front and rear windshield wipers guarantee good visibility and can even remove ice. A glass washer is also installed.
Cabin interior DT-75M
The new sprung cabin has become noticeably higher. Consumers became so accustomed to the old design that they began to write complaints to the plant, because after modernization the equipment no longer passed under trees. As a result, the original performance was restored.
The DT-75M crawler tractor is designed to operate in harsh weather conditions. Therefore, heating equipment is installed in the cabin for heating. For driver comfort, the cabin is equipped with a ventilation system that cleans the air from dust. Additionally, it is cooled and humidified. Switching on occurs automatically after closing the door and window openings. To maintain a microclimate, the cabin is insulated from noise and dust.
Additional equipment
Tilling the land using a plow for the DT-75 tractor
The DT-75M tractor has great functionality due to its high technical level. It is equipped with a rear linkage for attaching various agricultural devices and other machines. Mounted systems such as plows, seeders, and harrows allow harvesting and cultivating the land. The tractor can be used as a tractor to move large loads.
Tractor modifications depend on the configuration. These can be different brands of motor, reverse gearbox, rear mounted hydraulic system, creeper, rotary, stationary or universal blade.
Weight of the DT-75 model
The weight of a Volgograd-made caterpillar tractor depends on the modification of the machine. Over the history of its existence, the DT-75 was produced in several variations:
- the DT-75 itself with a rounded cabin.
- DT-75M is a modernized version of a tracked vehicle with a traction class of 30 kN for agricultural, road and reclamation work.
- 75B – swamp vehicle with an 80 hp engine.
- DT-75K with an anti-tip system for mining workings.
- DT-75S, performing the function of a bulldozer.
- DT-75D with a rotating blade.
Also, within the same series, subseries were produced that differed from each other not only in configuration and functionality, but also in weight.
The structural weight of the DT-75 tractor with the technical characteristics of the base model is 5.75 tons. For the 75M modification, this parameter is already 6550 kg, and the weight of individual versions reaches 7.2 tons. The tracked vehicle under the symbol 75ML weighs 6530 kg. The mass of a 75D series tractor with an A-41I diesel engine weighs 6295 kg, of which 960 kg is occupied by the engine itself. The 75N version, which went into production in 1984, is characterized by a mass of 6330-6900 kg, depending on the modification. The weight of the DT-75S crawler bulldozer depends on the production series:
- C1 – 6050 kg;
- C2 – 5600 kg;
- C3 – 5550 kg;
- C4 – 6000 kg.
General dimensions of the tracked vehicle:
- length with hanging system – 348 cm;
- width – 189 cm;
- height – 265 cm;
- ground clearance - 37.6 cm;
- longitudinal base – 161.2 cm;
- track - 133 cm;
- track width – 39 cm.
