Tractor LTZ 55: technical specifications, reviews and photos

The LTZ-55 tractor is a wheeled machine for universal purposes, the production of which was carried out at the Lipetsk Tractor Plant from 1991 to 2004. The LTZ-55 model itself is a kind of modification of the previous T-40 tractor, since during its development its base was taken as a basis. LTZ-55 was created specifically for the needs of agriculture, namely to carry out a full range of work.

In order to expand its list of feasible tasks, engineers provided for the installation of additional mounted and trailed equipment on the tractor. Thanks to this, the tractor also allows for unloading and loading operations, and, of course, transportation of various cargoes.

The tractor itself belongs to class 0.9 traction machines. Thanks to its technical characteristics, LTZ-55 is able to compete with analogues of its class made in Europe. It is also worth noting that it competes even with many other modern tractors.

Attachments

The tractor is considered a universal machine, not only because of its good cross-country ability and high traction, but also due to a fairly wide and varied set of attachments, which significantly expands its range of different jobs. The set of additional attachments itself consists of the following devices:

  • Mowers.
  • Cultivators.
  • Diesel units.
  • Road dumps.
  • Brush equipment designed for cleaning roads and much more.
  • Snow removal equipment or municipal type of dumps with hydraulic rotation and manual.
  • Loading equipment (with a lifting capacity, usually from 750 to 1200 kilograms).
  • Buckets designed for digging work.
  • Jaw-type buckets, also intended for digging work.
  • Various forks for loading silage and other plants.

Malfunctions

Modern models differ from previous ones to a greater extent in engine efficiency and improved mechanisms. But on the secondary market there is a large amount of equipment suitable for use at a favorable price. Unfortunately, there are also few spare parts and it can sometimes be difficult to find what you need. This is the main problem for owners of LTZ equipment. In their reviews, owners advise paying attention to the hydraulic system and gearbox.

The main malfunctions include:

  1. Overheating of the gearbox, which occurs due to unadjusted gear clearance or a small amount of lubricating fluid.
  2. The starter may not work due to broken contacts or low battery charge.
  3. Ineffective braking may be due to unadjusted pedal travel or due to worn brake discs or pads.
  4. There is no way to lift attachments. In this case, you need to check the oil level.

Modifications

Over all the years of production of the LTZ-55, the Lipetsk Tractor Plant has created four modifications of this tractor, namely the following versions:

  1. The LTZ-55A version is practically no different from the base model, with the exception of the presence of all-wheel drive, which significantly increased the maneuverability of this tractor.
  2. The LTZ-55N version is the same basic model, in which the ground clearance was lowered.
  3. The LTZ-55AN version is a combination of two previous modifications of the tractor, namely this one also has a lower ground clearance and has all-wheel drive.
  4. The LTZ-55AL version was developed for use on difficult ground. The design of this modification is made in such a way that the machine is capable of not causing much damage to the soil structure.

Tips for choosing equipment

When choosing, you must be guided by the tasks for which the unit is purchased, as well as the available budget. Although the new device seems to be the best option, it will not be suitable if the farmer plans to purchase a specific modification.

When planning a purchase, you should also remember about the transmission, which is equipped with all tractors, with the exception of the AB series. It involves the use of a clutch from the T-40, which is rightfully considered outdated, which leads to frequent breakdowns of the device. It is recommended to give preference to newer modifications where such problems have been eliminated.

Specifications

The LTZ-55 tractor is equipped with a four-cylinder diesel engine of the D-144 brand, the maximum achievable power of which is 50 horsepower or 36.8 kilowatts. The fuel consumption of this tractor is 249 grams per kilowatt per hour, which, taking into account the 70-liter fuel tank, allows you to work for quite a long time without any stops for refueling.

The tractor has the following overall dimensions:

The length from edge to edge of the entire structure is 3750 millimeters. The width, including the ends of the rear axle, is 1710 millimeters. The height, starting from the very bottom and ending with the roof of the tractor, is 2560 millimeters. The total base of the entire tractor structure is 2145 millimeters. The distance between the wheels, both front and rear, is 1375 millimeters, but if necessary, you can expand the track to 1840 millimeters, usually either by turning the wheel 180 degrees or installing thicker wheels. Well, the ground clearance of this car in the standard version is exactly 500 millimeters.

The tractor transmission includes a dry, single-disc clutch, friction type. There is also an additional clutch designed for an independent power take-off shaft. The gearbox is of a mechanical type and has 7 gears for moving the tractor forward and 1 gear for moving the tractor in reverse. The reverse provided on the tractor applies to all available gears. When purchasing this tractor, the buyer can ask the seller for additional equipment, namely a 7-speed gearbox and creeper.

The main brakes of the tractor are dry, band type and block all wheels at once. Parking brakes are driven only by the leading brakes.

The tractor's hydraulic system exerts a pressure of 200 kilograms per square centimeter and has a load capacity of exactly 1,500 kilograms, which is quite enough for agricultural work. The hydraulic system tank itself has a volume of 18.5 liters.

The independent power take-off shaft maintains a maximum permissible speed of 540 rpm, which is perhaps the standard for many other tractors.

Tractor LTZ-40 – capabilities of agricultural machinery

The design of this LTZ tractor successfully combines an air-cooled diesel engine, a mechanical transmission with a reverse function, and wheel suspension. The presence of these components makes the LTZ-40 tractor one of the most successful solutions of its manufacturer and a truly universal unit.

The main advantages of this model include its high cross-country ability, endurance, maneuverability in confined spaces, and ease of use. The design of the tractor provides a spacious single-seat cabin, which contains air conditioning and heating systems, as well as a height-adjustable steering column.

The main parameters of the LTZ tractor include:

  • power – 50 l. With.;
  • engine volume – 2.3 l;
  • fuel consumption – 240 g/kW/h;
  • number of speeds – 7 forward/7 reverse;
  • weight – 2.3 t.

The wide range of attachments used makes it possible to use this LTZ tractor for pre-sowing tillage, crop care, collection and transportation of mature crops. In addition to the agricultural sector, this model is also successfully used in construction, logging and utility companies. The video will help you get acquainted with the practical capabilities of this popular tractor.

Peculiarities

The LTZ-55 tractor is a reliable machine for a wide range of purposes. Small size and light weight, combined with the power generated by the engine, allows the machine to be used where speed, accuracy and minimal pressure exerted by the wheels on the ground are required. This tractor also boasts fairly good maneuverability and maneuverability, which is also an important requirement when carrying out some agricultural and forestry work.

The tractor's power unit is able to operate properly even at fairly low temperatures, thanks to a liquid cooling system with forced circulation, which in no way depends on the freezing of the liquid. Thanks to the high ground clearance, the tractor can move on various types of soil, as well as process various crops.

Although the engine itself is reliable, this does not mean that the power unit is able to last without any breakdowns. In this case, the necessary spare parts can be easily found and purchased at a price affordable for everyone.

The tractor cabin was quite comfortable and spacious. Comfort itself during operation is obtained by installing protection from extraneous noise and vibration caused by the engine. Also, operating this tractor will cause discomfort in cold weather conditions. This is because the cabin has a heating and ventilation system, which can also heat the incoming air into the tractor cabin. Thanks to the large glass area of the cab, the operator's workplace provides a fairly good view of the environment. It is worth noting that the operator’s seat is quite comfortable and has an adjustment that allows you to adjust everything to the driver and carry out long-term work without severe fatigue.

Owner reviews

Nikolay , Smolensk: “I have a lot of equipment on my farm. But the most reliable is the LTZ-60av tractor. Water-cooled engine from the Rybinsk Motor Plant. I changed the seat and installed a car heater, and made a window. I haven’t changed anything from the main mechanisms, everything is original and works.” Peter : “The iron machine is a reliable machine. Change parts and work again. You can’t go far with today’s plastic toys, it’s somehow unreliable. If you compare the price of LTZ, it is quite consistent with the characteristics. Various improvements in the cabin can be made to suit your needs, but there are no shortcomings in the main design” Alexander , Lipetsk region: “I bought the LTZ155 tractor back in 2002 from the factory. Then the latest models were already on their way. There were enough shortcomings of all sorts, I had to tinker with it myself. But during the entire period of operation there were no serious breakdowns"

Engine

Under the hood of the LTZ-55 tractor there is a four-cylinder in-line diesel power unit, which is capable of developing a maximum permissible power of 50 horsepower. Unlike other engines used in tractor manufacturing, this engine does not have a turbocharging system, but this does not prevent the tractor from showing fairly high traction characteristics.

The working volume of all engine cylinders is 4.15 liters, and the diameter of one of them has a value of 105 millimeters. The piston stroke, like many other tractor engines, is 120 millimeters. The maximum compression ratio in the combustion chamber reaches 16.5. The crankshaft of this engine is capable of accelerating to 1800 rpm, the same value is the maximum permissible.

What to choose LTZ 60 or MTZ

Hello, please tell me which is better to choose a used MTZ or LTZ-60.
Best regards, Sergei. Having experience in operating both tractors, he himself is a fellow countryman of LTZ. Definitely MTZ! With LTZ, there are a lot of hemorrhoids. And the tractor is interesting, in principle it all depends on its condition and operating conditions! But still MTZ!

Of course, MTZ is easier to repair and it’s a pleasure to work

It depends on you, but for me LTZ is better than MTZ. I have two LTZ-60av (one excavator). Both have Yumz engines. I've been using them for 3 years and I like them. It has both pros and cons compared to MTZ-82. The front axle is eternal, the wheels are always locked regardless of the turn (the 82 has a lot of problems with the front driving axle). The PTO, transfer case and cardan are made simply and reliably. The presence of reverse for all gears is very convenient, especially with a loader or bulldozer. A steering wheel with a dispenser (which was installed from the factory since 1994, and Belarusians only recently came to their senses) is a thing. The rear axle locking is mechanically reliable (at MTZ the hydraulic one doesn’t really work for anyone). The most optimal YuMZ engine is strong, economical and reliable. Disadvantages of the LTZ: few gears and a rather weak linkage. The LTZ cabin is clear and comfortable. I do a lot of work in the fields. If you compare it with the MTZ-82, then it is not a bit behind in terms of traction and speed. A field of T-70 and LTZ-60 with KPS-4 was cultivated once to the same depth and working width. And the LTZ is faster than the T-70 in speed and fuel consumption in 10 hours was 90 liters for the T-70; 70 liters for the LTZ. And if you take the MTZ-80, it’s not even close. If you work hard on the LTZ-60, the clutch, gearbox and rear axle will serve for a very long time!

Technology loves affection, cleanliness and lubrication!

Adequate opinion in my opinion. And in my topic I seemed to say, and if I didn’t, I’ll say now that if you buy an LTZ-60, then it’s an AB with an engine from YuMZ. It has much fewer clutch problems than the LTZ with the MMZ D-248 engine. And in other respects it is ideal for a gearbox. Andrey, regarding the fact that there are not enough gears, look for a speed reducer, the number of forward gears will be as much as 13, and 8 reverse gears.

“The Lipetsk tractor T-40 is the best tractor of the 20th century.” “A Russian tank is not as terrible as its drunken crew” “And there is only one warrior in the field if it is a T-40AM tractor” “Strength not supported by wisdom dies under its own weight!”

Price new and used

Unfortunately, the production of this tractor completely ceased in 2004 and purchasing a new machine is currently an impossible task. But only a used version of the tractor is available for purchase, the cost of which ranges from 150 thousand to 270 thousand rubles. The cost varies, as a rule, due to the year of manufacture, external and technical condition, modification, additional equipment and the presence of additional attachments.
