Motor grader DZ 98 is a domestically produced self-propelled grader used for construction, earthmoving and track-laying work. The motor grader is capable of replacing an entire fleet of special equipment for various purposes, for example, a tractor, bulldozer, tractor, snowblower, etc. The latest technical developments were used in its manufacture, which makes it one of the best among its competitors. A condensed overview of the DZ-98 and its main characteristics will help you see what makes the machine so effective in performing its assigned tasks.
Purpose and scope
Unlike the towed mechanism, which is driven by a tractor or tractor, the DZ-98 has its own diesel engine, so the machine can move independently. This is professional special equipment that can be successfully used for a whole range of all kinds of work:
- clearing the area for future construction from debris and overgrowth;
- laying and repairing the roadway;
- railway construction (preparatory work);
- clearing snow and ice from the roadway
- energy-intensive excavation work on hard soils up to category 4 (picking and moving soil)

When purchasing a new or used grader for the needs of your organization, you can select additional attachments. You can choose from two modifications of the DZ98, each of which is equipped with its own engine and hardware. The fundamental differences in the structure of the units are due to their focus on a specific region. The first model is produced specifically for the Krasnodar Territory and the entire tropical climate zone. The second modification is intended for use in Siberia.
What does it come with?
Attachments have been developed for the motor grader , which allows you to perform work of varying degrees of complexity. It is installed on the head of the main frame and includes:
- equipment for loosening soils and road surfaces;
- equipment for laying tracks;
- equipment for bulldozer work;
- equipment for snow removal;
- picker operator
Equipment for laying tracks includes a blade and two wings, which are attached to it on hinges. They are raised and lowered using hydraulic cylinders. Depending on the degree of exit of the cylinder rod, the wings are in a track-laying or bulldozer state. They can have a right or left grader position. Equipment for loosening soils includes a ripper with a suspension. The ripper has a beam shape with five teeth. A blade is used for snow removal work. Cone-shaped makes it possible to move snow to one side at low speed. When driving speed increases, the snow is thrown to the side up to 20 meters, which guarantees the absence of snow accumulations along the road. Bulldozer equipment is used to move rocks and fill ditches. It includes a blade, push frame suspension and hydraulic cylinders. To work with frozen soil and category 3-4 soils, they are loosened. The picker is used for crushing category 4 soils, destroying waste road surfaces and frozen soil.

Power unit
The classic option is the ability to equip the grader with a YaMZ-238NDZ diesel engine with a power of 250 horsepower. You can easily find DZ 98 spare parts for this domestically produced engine, which makes its repair and maintenance more affordable. Reliable and unpretentious, this power unit will serve for many years without breakdowns. The alternative option is equipped with a more powerful Cummins 11C265 diesel engine with 275 horsepower.
Regardless of which option you choose, average fuel consumption does not exceed 162 g/l. With. in one hour. Do you need to use the grader for a long time at critical temperatures? The machine easily copes with such tasks, since thanks to the advanced cooling system it does not overheat even in the hot season.
ENGINE
The main ones for the DZ 98 grader are two diesel power plants: YaMZ-238ND2 and Cummins M-11C265.
The basic version is equipped with a YaMZ-238ND2 unit with turbocharging and a starting system using a starter.
Parameters of the YaMZ-238ND2 engine:
- power – 173 (240) kW (hp);
- estimated crankshaft rotation speed – 1700 rpm;
- number of cylinders – 8;
- environmental class - Euro-1.
The Cummins M-11C265 engine is more reliable and has a similar design.
Parameters of the Cummins M-11C265 unit:
- power – 202 (275) kW (hp);
- estimated crankshaft rotation speed – 1700 rpm;
- specific fuel consumption – 220 (162) g/kW per hour (g/hp per hour);

Transmission
The all-wheel drive transmission provides the DZ-98 with high maneuverability in the most difficult conditions. Torque is transmitted to all six wheels using final drives and unloaded axle shafts. To make using the grader more economical, you can temporarily disable the front axle.
The standard equipment of DZ 98 includes:
- 6-speed manual transmission.
- Dry clutch (double disc).
- Cardan shafts.
- Transfer gearbox equipped with a parking brake.
Thus, despite its overall dimensions and relatively large weight (approx. 20 tons), the grader is capable of reaching speeds of up to 41 km/h. It is possible to install a gearbox different from the standard one with an operating mode through friction clutches.

Chassis and controls
Hydraulic steering allows you to control the machine using the front wheelset. Ceramic-metal multi-disc brakes are very reliable, provide precise control of a massive grader and do not require additional adjustment.
The rear suspension is made according to the balancing design. The bridges rise and fall, maintaining the desired position with the help of reaction rods. Since the front suspension is of the articulated type, the axle can move freely in the transverse plane. Of course, driving a grader on very rough terrain can be difficult, but the front and rear suspension layout allows the machine to easily overcome any obstacles.
The driver operating the grader is always in a fully glazed, solid metal cabin, where there is an adjustable steering column, control instruments and a sprung seat. Heating and ventilation systems work well. Thanks to the bright lighting, the driver can clearly see the working plane.
Design of the GS-14.02 motor grader
A machine of this class is used for road surface planning and profiling. Additionally, it is used to create embankments from gravel, various types of soil and crushed stone by leveling and moving them. In winter, it is allowed to use the GS-14.02 motor grader to clear road transport routes from precipitation and formed ice. This is possible due to the wide range of operating temperatures and adaptation to work in tropical and temperate latitudes.
A wide grip on the grader blade is achieved through the use of an articulated frame and rotary grader and bulldozer blades. This design also allows the machine to be used for profiling in the opposite direction of movement due to the reverse gear. The blade is located directly between the front and rear axles and is fully rotatable.
The design feature of the GS-14.02 motor grader is that it is equipped with removable equipment. Therefore, its bulldozer blade can be replaced with a ripper-picker, and it, in turn, can be replaced with a ripper-scarifier. The power of the equipment directly depends on the engine used, but due to the fact that there are several design options, each modification should be considered separately, based on specifications.
The GS-14.02 motor grader is adapted for work in high mountain areas. This is largely possible thanks to the transmission used. It's made in Germany here. The brake system is dual-circuit hydraulic with a backup power source. It is complemented by a parking brake with a gear shift lock. The hydraulics are equipped with a constant volume pump. It includes 6 hydraulic boosters for the main equipment and four electrical modules for additional equipment, as well as hydraulic locks for the circuits.
The operator's work is facilitated by the automatic blade control system. For this purpose, the design provides a number of sensors and balancers, also containing sensors.
Hydraulic system
Control of attachments, clutch, as well as maneuvering and movement of the grader is carried out using an advanced hydraulic system with a total capacity of 120 liters (as standard). Hydraulic cylinders are responsible for moving the frame elements in a vertical plane, and with the help of a hydraulic motor (can be installed optionally) the rotating mechanism of the blade operates.
Powerful hydraulic cylinders with a rod diameter of 100-160 mm are used to control all the main components of the heavyweight. The cylinders used here are:
- power steering;
- side blade;
- movement of the blade in the vertical plane;
- movement of the blade in the horizontal plane;
- front blade control;
- frame extension, etc.
Different modifications of the DZ-98 can use excellent components for the hydraulic system. Since some parts are no longer produced in domestic factories, they are delivered from China.
Options that expand the capabilities of the machine
- The LS hydraulic system regulates the operation of hydraulic pumps based on load, ensuring fuel savings.
- Manipulation of working parts and maneuvering is carried out using joysticks.
- Main blade damper hydraulic system.
- Possibility of transition to the “floating” position of the blade.
- Powerful hydraulic steering pump and two-cylinder steering control.
- Automatic leveling by LEICA (2D and 3D).
- GLONASS satellite navigation device.
- Equipment of hinge devices with LINCOLN auto-lubrication units.
- Rear sphere video camera.
- DYNOSET hydraulic tool canopy module.
- Working lighting on 4 sides.
- Heated fuel filter.
Working and replacement equipment:
DZ-98 is a wide-profile working machine, which, in addition to basic functionality, can be equipped with additional attachments. Below we will consider the main types of canopies and the purposes for which they are used.
Grader blade
The grader blade is located in the central part of the machine and is driven by hydraulic cylinders. It can move in both vertical and horizontal planes. If a basic grader is not enough, the DZ 98 can be equipped with larger attachments. Primary uses of a grader blade include (but are not limited to):
- removal of ice and snow up to 1.2 m in height;
- preparatory work, including cleaning the surface from overgrowth;
- terrain planning and creation of pits;
- laying and arrangement of road and railway tracks.
The wings of the grader canopy have two main positions: bulldozer and track-laying, while one or both of them can be lowered at the same time. Using hydraulic cylinders, the wings can rotate around a vertical axis.
If you need to expand the capabilities of snow removal equipment, an auxiliary blade can be installed, with which you can successfully remove snow even behind fences, and an additional wing allows you to throw the collected snow to the side of the road.
Bulldozer blade
The front blade is called a bulldozer blade. Thanks to its curved surface, it can cut the soil and push it forward. If necessary, the bulldozer equipment can be lowered higher or lower, and also rotated in any desired direction. With the help of a dozer blade, you can very precisely clear the surfaces in front of the grader.
Picker operator (optional)
An optional pickaxe can be installed at the rear of the grader to loosen the soil, remove worn road surfaces and frozen soil. This equipment is a cast frame with five teeth (seen in the photo). The tips wear out over time, so they can be replaced with new ones. The picker is raised and lowered using a hydraulic cylinder.
Optional equipment
In order to improve the new DZ-98 models, additional efforts are being made. The following can be installed as additional equipment:
- GPS navigation "Glonass";
- four-way work lighting;
- LINCOLN automatic lubrication units for hinged parts;
- additional heating of the fuel filter;
- automatic leveling LEICA (3D and 2D).
- rear view video camera;
- floating mode of operation of the blade;
- control of working parts using joysticks;
- adjusting pump loads for additional fuel savings;
- hydraulic damper system for smoother operation of the main blade.
