The atmosphere at the presentation (which was called R/Evolution - a play on the words “revolution” and “Renault evolution”) corresponded to the significance of the event: only the first batch of guests - journalists, partners and clients, among whom was the author of this article, numbered more than 5,000 people. A colorful show of many artists with dancing and acrobatics accompanied the parade of new models. Unfortunately, journalists were not given the opportunity to ask questions at the press conference, so we will present to the readers only the information contained in the company's official documents.
Renault Trucks engineers and designers did a tremendous amount of work, which took about seven years. The Volvo Group has invested over 2 billion euros in this project. 300 experimental vehicle models were built, which were subjected to bench and road tests, and were also tested under real operating conditions at 50 company customer sites around the world.
New trucks are divided into four series according to size and purpose, from the largest and heaviest to light-tonnage: T - for long-distance transportation, K - for heavy construction work, C - for construction work and D - distribution, for transportation within a city or region (see Table 1).
To improve aerodynamics, the windshield of all types of cabins is inclined 12° from the vertical, the cabins have a trapezoidal shape in plan: the width at the front is 2.3 m, and at the rear it reaches 2.5 m. A variety of aerodynamic deflectors and fairings have been developed. As a result of these measures, the aerodynamic drag coefficient Cx was reduced by up to 12% compared to the previous generation models. The opening angle of the cabin doors is 85° (for D series models – 90, 80 and 70°). The instrument panel has a 7″ display (4.3″ for D series models), and a number of control buttons are located on the steering wheel: telephone, cruise control, automated transmission. The rear view mirrors are electrically heated.
To ensure compliance with Euro 6 standards, the so-called “extended SCR” technology is used, which, in addition to the SCR system itself (with AdBlue reagent), includes: an exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system with cooling, a DOC oxidation catalytic converter, a DPF particulate filter with active regeneration and ammonia catalytic converter Ammonia Stip Catalyst, ASC (in the D series model, instead of ASC, the exhaust gas aftertreatment system in the EATS exhaust system is used).
The standard equipment of trucks of all series includes a number of active safety systems: collision avoidance with obstacles in front, hill start assist HSA, directional stabilization and rollover prevention (ESC), as well as an electronic brake force control system EBS with traction control ASR, etc. Lane Keeping Assist is available as an option (except D series). Cars are equipped with additional lights to illuminate corners. Trucks of all series have various types of retarders: mountain brake, Optibrake and Optibrake+ engine brakes, Voith hydraulic retarder on the transmission, Telma, Allison and ZF retarders.
The chassis is prepared for the installation of various superstructures, for the convenience of bodybuilders there are many options for the layout of components (for example, a vertical engine air intake), numerous mounting holes are made in the side members, power take-offs can be located on the engine and gearbox, and a number of wheelbase sizes are available to choose from. The frame spars are made of steel with a high yield strength. Trucks of all series use one- and two-stage final drives on the drive axles. To simplify maintenance, electrical wiring and hydraulic or pneumatic hoses are routed separately, on the right and left sides of the vehicle, respectively.
The new models are partially unified in components and parts with the previous generation models, and some of the parts are completely new.
Series T
The series includes tractors and chassis. The modular design principle allows us to create trucks that meet any customer's long-distance transportation needs.
The cabins are completely new, 2.5 m wide, with a flat floor or a 200 mm high tunnel. The lower berth extends up to 800 mm wide; the edge of the upper bunk can be raised upward, forming a side - this is convenient when using it for storing things. New seats from Recaro are equipped with ventilation, heating and lumbar support. There is a silent running refrigerator with a capacity of 24 or 40 liters. Tractor vehicles have a seat latch lock sensor.
It is claimed that the new Euro 6 engines are up to 5% more economical than previous models. In addition, the Optiroll function in the engine management system does not allow the vehicle speed to decrease by more than 3 km/h when driving uphill, and does not allow the speed to increase by more than 7 km/h when driving downhill, which helps to save fuel. The active cruise control system, together with the Optiroll function, also improves fuel efficiency. Power steering performance is adjustable, which also helps save fuel.
The trucks are equipped with an Optidriver automated manual transmission as standard (12 forward gears, 3 reverse gears) or an optional B14 manual gearbox (12 forward gears, 2 crawling gears, 4 reverse gears).
The chassis and cabs have been strengthened compared to previous models. The spars are fastened with rivets. The front suspension can be spring or pneumatic with a load capacity (g/p) of 7.1; 7.5 and 8.0 tons. Rear air suspension capacity is 13 tons. A large number of wheelbase sizes are offered. Drive axles – rear or middle. In addition to the front axle, the middle or rear axle can be steered. To reduce weight, the wheel rims are made of aluminum. All brake mechanisms are disc.
Anti-theft devices and a variety of items and devices to create comfort in the cabin are offered as options.
Updated Renault trucks: in the wake of the flagship
Renault Trucks , following Volvo in April of this year, an updated model range of the T, C, and K , was faced with an unforeseen circumstance - another wave of the coronavirus pandemic. As a result, the presentation of the company’s updated lineup had to be held online in mid-summer. More details about the event can be found in the “Engine” report.
It should be immediately noted that most of the innovations in one form or another have become a copy of the updated Volvo Trucks presented last year. It all came down to some cosmetic changes in the appearance of the trucks, a new interior and a number of electronic assistants to make the work of drivers easier and the safety of the trucks themselves.
“All changes are primarily aimed at satisfying the needs of our customers, we listen to their requests, highlighting the main thing and at the same time not losing sight of secondary things, and we refuse some things altogether,” the president noted when presenting the updated cars Renault Trucks Bruno Damn.
The design of the vehicles has become more integrated, which will allow customers to easily apply company logos and branding to the cab panels. The use of LED optics in head lighting played an important role in this issue. In addition, trucks began to be perceived differently emotionally.
According to the developers, the change in proportions gave the car a decisive look; it became more concentrated. The radiator trim, as well as the enlarged logo on the front panel, solve a single problem - to declare a brand with a long tradition that you can be proud of.
Access to the cabins of restyled cars has become easier. The interior has also undergone significant changes. So, the steering column now has expanded adjustments. By pressing the pedal, the driver will have the opportunity to customize the column and steering wheel, as they say, to suit himself. A keyless engine starting system has been added to the list of available equipment.
The sleeping area has also been “rethought”. Renault Trucks has increased the thickness of the Serenity bunk bed mattress by 13% and doubled the number of springs, providing optimal support through better weight distribution. A washable memory foam mattress topper can be added as an option. The mattress is separated from the base, allowing the use of fitted sheets.
The interior has increased the number of places to store personal items. There are special places for mobile phones, tablets, as well as USB connectors (on the instrument panel and near the bed). There is a drawer for hidden storage of valuables.
Renault Trucks C
The upholstery materials, as well as the color palette, have undergone changes. There is less contrast, everything is aimed at professional use both during long trips and in difficult operating conditions. The new modular driver's seat features an expanded number of adjustments and the use of new upholstery material. Leather upholstery remains an option. Finally, to improve the sound quality of the audio system, Renault Trucks teamed up with French manufacturer Focal to install Hi-Fi music.
These are, so to speak, changes visible to the eye. No less opportunities are provided to the client by such things as reduced fuel consumption, as well as original service offers.
Renault Trucks T High
The complex of works allowed to reduce fuel consumption by 3%. Firstly, the cabin aerodynamics around the radiator trim have been improved, and wheel arch extensions have been added to improve airflow. Secondly, cars have received new solutions to further reduce fuel consumption.
The latter include a new version of the Optivision intelligent cruise control system and an optimized cruise control system with two selectable driving modes. Eco On is the default mode and optimizes fuel consumption by adjusting acceleration, gear shifting, cruise control and deceleration, while Eco Off allows drivers to change the driving mode. The instrument cluster display gives drivers information about their driving style in real time. The new Pulse and Glide function further reduces fuel consumption by maintaining vehicle speed around the cruise control set point (±2 km/h). Finally, the new Renault Trucks T and T High are fitted as standard with Class A tyres, the most efficient on the market in terms of fuel economy.
Renault Trucks T
Renault Trucks has also developed new technology to regularly update the vehicle's software upon customer request, without the need to visit a workshop. The new technology has become part of the Excellence Predict maintenance offering, allowing the manufacturer to intervene on the vehicle before failure occurs and giving the customer greater peace of mind by ensuring trouble-free vehicle operation.
Depending on the specific operation of the trucks and their mileage, oil change intervals for vehicles equipped with 13-liter Euro 6 engines can be increased to 150 thousand km or 18 months, which means contract maintenance costs (labor and spare parts) are reduced ) and the maintenance schedule is optimized due to a reduction in the number of visits to the service station, and additional costs are reduced.
The updated trucks will be available in Renault Trucks' main markets from September. Russia has not remained aloof: the vehicles are already available for order, the first deliveries are expected in September-October.
In the future, the manufacturer intends to expand the line of environmentally friendly vehicles: according to the president of Renault Trucks, by 2023, the company will introduce electric versions in each of the segments in which the brand’s trucks are represented.

Renault Trucks presents a new generation of trucks - the revolutionary T, T-High, C and K models
This is the most important evolution since the complete renewal of the model range of the manufacturer Renaut Trucks in 2013.
- A bolder look
For 2022, Renault Trucks will change the appearance of its trucks, favoring bolder styling, particularly in relation to the headlights, which have been reduced in size to increase the painted surface area of the lower body. A new grille completes the more modern and sleek design of the 2021 Renault Trucks.
- Increased comfort on board and while driving
New adjustable steering column
The trucks are equipped with a new adjustable steering column. This allows drivers to select the most comfortable position based on their body type, task requirements, or personal preference.
The column is adjusted using a single foot control, which allows you to set both the position and tilt of the steering wheel. Adjustment with both hands on the handlebar and instant locking ensures precision and safety.
New modular seats
Since a truck driver spends an average of nine hours a day behind the wheel, the seats must remain comfortable for the life of the vehicle and fit each driver.
Renault Trucks has therefore redesigned its seats and now offers a modular range for complete flexibility in terms of settings, combinations and options. The manufacturer also introduced new textiles designed to withstand multiple climbs in and out of the cabin every day. A leather version is available as an option.
Increased storage capacity
The 2022 Renault Trucks T, T High, C and K versions are also equipped with new storage solutions.
Renault Trucks has added a holder for tablets and smartphones located within the driver's reach, allowing access to multiple devices simultaneously and charging them via two USB-C connectors. In addition, a new storage box for A4 documents has been added.
On the passenger side, the vehicles have two storage spaces with a total capacity of 7 liters (including a two-liter refrigerated space).
Updated comfortable sleeping area
A truck is not only a driver's work tool, it is also a place where he rests and sleeps. Therefore, the quality of the sleeping area is crucial. For driver comfort and equipment longevity, Renault Trucks has increased the thickness of the Serenity sleeper mattress by 13% and doubled the number of springs, providing optimal support through better body weight distribution. A washable memory foam mattress topper can be added as an option. The mattress is separated from the base, allowing the use of fitted sheets.
For added convenience, two USB-C ports have been added to the sleeping area to make it easy to charge electronic devices, keeping them within easy reach of the driver while resting.
Finally, to improve in-cab sound quality, Renault Trucks has teamed up with French manufacturer Focal to supply high-tech equipment and speakers.
- Increased safety for drivers, their loads and road users
High levels of safety for drivers and road users have also been a major focus in the development of the Renault Trucks T, T High, C and K model ranges.
The new Renault Trucks T, T High and C are equipped with LED headlights as standard. Because LED light is closer to natural light, it allows drivers to better perceive contrasts and colors. This significantly improves visibility at night, and therefore safety. Another advantage of LED technology is its reliability and durability. The service life of the LED source is 30 times longer than that of a conventional light bulb.
Additional LED headlights have also been placed on the inside of the door to illuminate the threshold for increased driver safety when entering and exiting the truck at night.
To ensure optimal safety for drivers, their loads and road users, a number of other options are available, including a mechanical intrusion protection device (security door lock), cameras and occupancy sensors, and glazed doors providing excellent visibility of pedestrians and cyclists. Finally, emergency application of the parking brake reduces the risk of unexpected vehicle movement when the driver leaves the cab by automatically activating the wheel lock to stop the truck.
- Reduced fuel consumption and optimized maintenance
3% fuel savings
First, cabin aerodynamics have been improved around the front grille and wheel arch flares have been added to improve airflow.
Secondly, the vehicles are equipped with new technology to further reduce fuel consumption. We are talking about a new version of the Optivision intelligent cruise control system and an optimized cruise control system with two (selectable) driving modes.
Eco on is the default mode that optimizes fuel consumption by adjusting acceleration, gear shifting, cruise control and braking, while Eco off allows you to change the driving mode. The indicator provides drivers with real-time information about their driving style; The greater the number of “sheets” of the indicator, the more economical the driving.
The new Pulse and Glide feature further reduces fuel consumption by keeping the truck speed near the cruise control set point (+/- 2 km/h).
Finally, the new Renault Trucks T and T High are fitted as standard with Class A tyres, the most fuel efficient tires on the market.
- More services for uptime
Streamline workshop visits with remote monitoring services
Renault Trucks network specialists can carry out pre-diagnosis, functionality updates and remote monitoring of vehicles. This reduces the number of visits to the workshop and optimizes the schedule of such visits.

As you can see in the photo, all the trucks were presented in khaki color, but Renault Trucks designers have developed a wide range of beautiful and eye-catching paint colors, including gold, silver, orange, white, etc., in which the trucks will go on sale.
Red rectangles on the sides of the cabs with the words “Renault Trucks” complement the logo on the front grille and increase the recognition of the vehicle. The name of the model and configuration are indicated on the plate. Part of the plate is left free and can be used by the truck owner to indicate the company name, etc.
Each reader can form his own opinion about the design of trucks by looking at the images of the presented samples. Personally, the author liked the design - business-like, laconic and at the same time highly individual and recognizable “Renovsky”.
The presentation of the new Renault Trucks model range is as rare and significant an event in the world of cars as a parade of planets in astronomy. And for the transport business, a complete update of Renault Trucks is much more important than events in deep space.
The new trucks will go on sale in Russia with the launch of Euro 5 engines for the new range around the beginning of 2014.
