Engine and transmission

The design of the engine installed on the MAZ in question is a turbocharged V-shaped diesel engine YaMZ-236 HE2 (meets EURO II standard) with six cylinders located at an angle of 90°, with a total volume of 11.15 liters.

The developed power at 2,100 rpm is 180 “horses” (or 132 kW). The torque reaches a maximum of approximately 68 kgf/m in the range of 1,250-1,450 rpm.

The six-section injection pump includes a low-pressure pump for pumping fuel, a multi-mode speed controller and an injection advance device (clutch). The type of working nozzles used is closed.

The dry type air filter has an indication of the contamination limit, and it is possible to change the filter element.

The kit includes an electric flare device (EFD). As a separate option, the manufacturer offers a special heater for starting the engine (PZD-30).

A single unit with a diesel engine is a transmission, including a dry clutch with two discs and a pneumatic booster, as well as a five-speed YaMZ-236P gearbox.

Its design includes synchronizers for forward gears, starting from II to V; their gear ratios from I to V and reverse gear (3X) are respectively:

  • drum-type service brakes with a width of 160 mm, a diameter of 420 mm and cam release devices. The brake chambers at the rear have additional spring accumulators;
  • parking brake (activated by pneumatics in the rear wheel chambers on spring energy accumulators);
  • spare brakes (combined with parking brakes). It is recommended to use when all others fail;
  • Special flaps in the exhaust gas exhaust system, activated by pneumatics, provide the function of auxiliary brakes, slowing down the engine speed.

  3. Spare brakes. They have a combined design with a parking lot. They are usually used when other systems fail.
  4. Auxiliary brakes are a rotary retarder with a pneumatic drive. They are presented in the form of dampers, which are located inside the structure of containers with equipment for removing exhaust gases from spent fuel. With their help, if necessary, the motor activity is partially slowed down.
  5. The rear brake chambers are equipped with spring energy accumulators.
  6. The trailer brake drive is combined (two- and single-wire). There is an alcohol fuse against condensate freezing.

It is possible to connect a system for automatically applying several brake systems. Typically, drivers use this function when driving a car as part of an entire road train, using it to design a trailer.

The system includes protection against blockages, with which there is no risk of system failure in the presence of frozen condensate.

The eighties of the twentieth century, along with the end of stagnation in the USSR, brought new models of already proven MAZ trucks. The new model had the main difference from all its predecessors - the ability to install modules for various purposes. The series uses an improved front and rear suspension system:
