In 1974, the first 14-ton semi-trailers OdAZ 9370, also called KZAP 9370, appeared. The founder of the production was the Krasnoyarsk Automotive Trailer Plant, which was the reason for the original name.
In past years, the high performance characteristics (TTX) of the 9370 OdAZ trailer glorified this device as military equipment, which is distinguished by its reliability and maneuverability. Today, the trailer is ideal for highly loaded trips in off-road conditions.
In agriculture, industry and other areas, the technical characteristics of the OdAZ 9370 semi-trailer have allowed it to find wide application. The trailer is just suitable for traveling on roads where a load of 6 tons per axle is allowed.
Semi-trailers from the OdAZ plant
Trailed equipment produced in Odessa is almost invisible on modern Russian roads, but is still actively used in the outback. These are “workhorses” produced in Soviet times and at the very beginning of the independent existence of the independent Ukrainian Republic.
History and modernity
The plant was formed after the end of the Second World War on the site of auto repair shops that assembled lend-lease Fords, Chevrolets, Studbakers, and Dodges.
Since 1946, the company began to assemble trailers with one axle. Since 1959, seven-ton semi-trailers (PP) for KAZs and ZILs - ODAZ 784 - began to roll off the assembly line.
1963: the onboard two-axle PP KAZ 717 went into production. It could already transport 11,500 kg. At the same time, a six-ton PP refrigerator, a sixteen-ton PP van and an OdAZ 828 semi-trailer were created, used with ZIL and Ural tractors transporting complex equipment (mainly for military purposes) weighing up to 5,500 kg.
Since 1964, the plant has been producing PP with a curb weight of 7.4 tons, model 885, for KAZ and ZIL trucks. Since 1965, the 749 modification of the PP van has been put into production.
1972 was significant for the development of a new platform, model 9987. And since 1976, the plant has been producing an onboard two-axle PP, carrying up to 13.7 tons, in 2 modifications - a platform and a frame tilt PP 9770.
In 1983, production of the model 9976 livestock carrier began, which can transport 12,000 tons and has one deck. At the same time, OdAZ 9977, two-tier, lifting 11 tons, and PP 9958 (one tier, 8 tons) come off the assembly line. The difference between this auxiliary equipment is that the body, frame, internal and external cladding are made of aluminum.
After 1987, flatbed PP 9357, refrigerator modifications 47093 and 37793 were produced. For that time, the van was made using advanced technology using sandwich panels made of aluminum sheets.
After 1991, in Ukraine, for another 9 years, the plant produced dump trucks, trailers, semi-trailers (vans, container ships, refrigerators, grain trucks), trailers, and dollies for PP.
In 2001, the OdAZ plant came under raider control and until 2010 was not able to produce products. When property was returned to the company, it was supposed to resume work, assembling Chinese cars, but the project never came to fruition.
Since 2013, the plant has been renting out production space to tenants and does not produce or sell equipment.
Purpose
The OdAZ semi-trailer, whose model range until 2001 could compete with the most famous manufacturers in Europe, produced light, strong, durable auxiliary vehicles used:
- in construction and quarries (dumping PP);
- for transportation of chilled and frozen products (isothermal PP);
- for agricultural transportation (grain trucks, livestock trucks);
- for transporting various types of goods (vans);
- for military special equipment (platforms for S-300, laboratories, communication vans).

Compressor station UKS-400
The station allows you to obtain clean, breathing air, compressed to a pressure of 40 MPa (400 bar) with a productivity of 2.3 m3\min (2300 l\min).
This compressor station is completely autonomous and extremely reliable. The drive is provided by a YaMZ 236 engine.
The standard equipment includes the installation of a pre-start unit (liquid pre-heater).
The main purpose of a unified compressor station is pressure testing of oil pipelines and pumping air into cylinders.

The technical characteristics of the OdAZ semi-trailer make it possible to install bodies for various purposes on the chassis, developed back in the USSR, without loss of performance and operational properties.
Refrigerators (826, 833, 877, 878)

PP OdAZ-833 has 2 parts allocated. In front is the engine room (where the refrigeration equipment is located), in the back is the cargo room, which has guide beams and double-horned hooks for transporting carcasses.
OdAZ 877 and 878 differ in that the first has a single-axle running mechanism, the second has a biaxial balancing trolley.
Semi-trailer OdAZ-9370
The first fourteen-ton PPs of this brand appeared in 1974.
The properties and parameters of PP 9370, its reliability, and high cross-country ability made this model the most popular and purchased. Such non-self-propelled vehicles are used in agriculture, industry, and as military equipment.
Specifications
A two-axle gable semi-trailer with a dead weight of 4.9 tons can transport 14.2 tons.
The maximum speed at which a trailer can be used is 100 km/h.
Platform length – 9.6 m, width – 2.6 m, side height – 2.03 m.
On a note. According to the instructions, the non-self-propelled vehicle remains operational in the temperature range of ± 40 degrees Celsius. The permissible air humidity for operation should not exceed 75% at 15 °C.
Modifications
OdAZ 9370 semi-trailer. The reliable and lightweight design captivated carriers; in Soviet times, photographs of these semi-trailers constantly appeared in articles from the fields, construction sites, and military exercises.
Therefore, the Odessa plant has maximally expanded the line of PCBs produced on the 9370 chassis. This model was produced:
- in onboard version;
- with removable awning and frame;
- in the form of a platform;
- with wooden additional sides.
A non-self-propelled vehicle may be equipped with side posts and retractable supports.
The chassis was also sold separately.
Features of KZAP 9370
The main tractor for the device is suitable for the semi-trailer - KamAZ 5410 or another vehicle whose technical characteristics are as close as possible to this model.
The main elements that make up the KZAP 9370 semi-trailer are the platform, chassis, brake system and electrical equipment.
The number of axles/wheels is 2/8 + 1. The total weight of the load that the semi-trailer can withstand is 14,200 kg, while the total weight of the trailer will be 19,100 kg. The reliable OdAZ 9370 semi-trailer is capable of speeds of up to 80 km/h, and the latest KZAP 9370 accelerates to 100 km/h.

What’s amazing is that for coupling with the main tractor, there is a removable hinge rod in a special “socket” recess. This is a kind of protection against rapid wear.
The presented two-axle semi-trailer KZAP 9370 safely moves in different temperature conditions: from minus 40 to plus 40 degrees. Air humidity at 15 degrees should not exceed 75%.
In the design documentation there are different configurations:

The unit without sides can be retrofitted with retractable semi-trailer supports, standard folding sides and side posts.
Pioneer OdAZ 828
Back in 1960, the car assembly plant developed the OdAZ 828 semi-trailer dump truck, designed for transporting goods and transporting people. In appearance, the structure resembles an all-metal covered van, which is covered on the inside with moisture-resistant durable plywood and on the outside with metal sheets.
Thermal insulation is installed to maintain the internal microclimate. There is a front single door and a rear double door. Shelves, racks and guides for installing equipment are provided. The main truck tractor used is ZIL 131V.

OdAZ 93571
Since 1990, OdAZ 93571 began production, which was created for transporting goods as part of a road train. Among all the features, the braking system should be highlighted, divided into two types: mechanical parking brake and pneumatic drum brake. The number of wheels here is 4 + 1. The main truck tractor ZIL-441510 is used.
Otherwise, the dimensions are similar to other models. The length is 8 meters, width – 2.5, height – 2 meters. Load capacity is 11,400 kg, and the semi-trailer's own weight is 2,970 kg. It is not difficult to calculate that a fully loaded semi-trailer weighs 14,370 kg.
Conclusion
Domestic semi-trailers KZAP 9370 and OdAZ with modification 828 or 93571 cope perfectly with the stated functions of transporting grain, sand or heavy cargo up to 14 tons, as well as transporting people in our time.
