How to make a homemade cabin for a MTZ tractor
However, no one is immune from breakdowns, so you will have to repair the cabin, possibly with your own hands. Repairing the cabin, altering it or modifying it with the help of qualified workers will not be cheap, but doing the work yourself is quite possible. In addition, on cabless tractors you can also make a cabin with your own hands. A homemade cabin for a tractor is convenient, cheap and reliable.
What do you need to know about installing a homemade cabin MTZ-82, MTZ-50 and on the T-40?
The most important thing you should pay attention to when deciding to install a homemade cabin at MTZ is the quality of materials. Changes can be made to the design to make it even cheaper. First of all, you need to decide what material will be used for the main part of the frame.
So, when making a homemade cabin project at MTZ, you can take into account that the glass at the bottom of the door is an optional element, and it can be completely abandoned. This will make the structure more durable, since there will be no risk of the glass breaking.
First you need to thoroughly prepare for work, namely:
- Set up a spacious work space.
- Prepare the necessary materials: steel sheets (1.2-2 mm), square pipes, glass (front, rear and side), screwdriver, tools for carpentry and joinery, welding machine.
- Prepare consumables (fastening) materials: bolts, screws, nuts.
Let's look at how to create the MTZ-50 cabin with your own hands. It is done in the same way for any other tractor.
The most common design mistakes are miscalculations when planning how to fill the cabin.
So, not everyone takes into account that the floor in the MTZ-82 cabin should be laid not evenly, but in steps. The first stage is needed in order to move along it; it is also possible to provide a niche for the battery in it (in the event that the MTZ-82 cabin requires the use of a starter). On the second step there will be a platform for the driver's seat. The third stage is needed to act as a kind of armrest. A passenger can also sit on this step, since the width of the ledge will allow this.
It is also worth considering that you first need to purchase a car seat, and only then plan the ceiling height. The seat should not be too high: in this case, it will prevent you from assessing the situation behind you if necessary. When all the nuances are taken into account, you can begin to design a homemade cabin for an MTZ-80, 50 or other tractor.
MTZ-80: technical characteristics of the tractor and comparison of existing modifications
"Belarus" MTZ-80 belongs to the 800 series of universal row-crop wheeled tractors. Produced since the 70s of the last century by the Minsk Tractor Plant. Its various modifications are still used throughout the world in 70 countries.
It all started back in 1966, when the Central Committee of the CPSU and the Council of Ministers of the USSR issued Resolution No. 606 of August 3, “On accelerating development in the 1966-1970s.” production of tractors, self-propelled chassis and spare parts for them.” In order to avoid a global re-equipment of the plant, it was decided to subject the MTZ-50 to a deep modernization. The new model, called MTZ-80, changed the original design by 70%, unifying not only individual parts, but also most of the components and assemblies. Since 2000, this tractor has been called “Belarus-80”.

Algorithm for making a homemade tractor cabin
First, a drawing and work plan are created. First of all, you need to weld the front part of the cab taking into account the windshield of the tractor. To do this, it is necessary to make a glass contour from a sheet of plywood with a reserve for laying the seal. You need to do the same with the rear wall, only after that you need to take measurements of the side parts of the tractor and its doors. The side parts must be equipped with opening glass, which can be purchased in specialized stores. This will make working on the tractor more comfortable, and it will be possible to ventilate the room.
After measurements, you can proceed to constructing a timber frame. Square tubes should be placed along its outer contour, after which the parts are spot welded. After clarifying the measurements, it is necessary to proceed to welding the openings for the glass. Welding must take place on a flat surface.
Before all parts of the tractor are lined, you need to decide on the height: the ceiling should be at least 20 cm higher than the driver. After all the calculations, the height of the racks on which the main load will be distributed is determined. Only after all these procedures can you begin to make a tractor roof from a steel sheet (2 mm) and a tube (diameter 100 mm). The tube is cut lengthwise and a steel sheet is welded to it, which will play the role of a roof in the future. After this, the entire cabin is welded and mirrors are installed.
After welding the parts, smaller work comes, for example, installing locks on the doors. If the lock is easy to install from the outside, then the mechanism located inside requires modification. On the inside of the door, where the lock is located, you need to weld or screw a latch with a spring, and then attach it to the lock.
The instrument panel can be borrowed from a tractor, connect wires to it and get a ready-made remote control located on a metal case. The same should be done with the stove, which will be needed in winter. There are 2 pipes coming out of the stove: one goes to the windshield, and the other will blow out air. If the cabin is sealed, you will need to ventilate it from time to time to remove excess moisture.
History of the creation of MTZ-80
The decree on the construction of the Minsk Tractor Plant was signed personally by J.V. Stalin in 1946. At the initial stage, it was supposed to be an enterprise capable of producing 50 tracked vehicles per day with 37 hp diesel engines. With. Production was planned to begin in 1948.
The tracked KD-35 was produced at MTZ for only 9 months, since in the same 1948 Minsk designers were already working on their first universal - row-crop wheeled tractor. And so on July 18, 1949, in a solemn atmosphere, the first experimental wheeled tractor, completely factory-built, came out of the workshop gates. In the same year, several more samples were produced and subjected to lengthy testing.
But the decisive date for the plant was October 14, 1953; after tests and modifications, the first MTZ-1 and MTZ-2 “Belarus” rolled off the main assembly line. This event determined the future fate and main specialization of the plant. As the years passed, the plant improved existing ones and developed new models. In the 50s, he carried out a government task for the development and production of tracked skidding machines. But work on wheeled tractors did not stop.
MTZ kept up with the times and when the need for a new one appeared: more powerful, maneuverable, more adapted to certain conditions, the plant immediately responded. Thus, an extensive line of universal row-crop tractors was born:
MTZ-5, MTZ-7 in the late 50s.
In the 60s, the modernization of production facilities and the production of MTZ-50, MTZ-52.
And in 1972, tests of the MTZ-80 were completed; this tractor was developed through a deep modernization of the “fifty” and essentially became a completely new machine. The tractor received a new 80 hp diesel engine. pp., as well as a lot of other design changes and improvements. The number of trailed and attached equipment for the tractor has increased to 230 items, and transport speed has increased to 35 km/h. In its modern version, the MTZ-80.1 tractor is still produced to this day, four decades later, at the same Minsk Tractor Plant!
All about the convenience and comfort of modern MTZ cabins
The work of tractor drivers cannot be called easy, since the influence of external factors that arise during the performance of assigned tasks on the body is obvious. Tractor drivers often encounter large amounts of dust, high ambient temperatures, natural precipitation, strong shaking and other unpleasant situations.
Tractor manufacturers have long begun to take these factors into account and supply the markets with cabs equipped with the latest technology. The manufacturer MTZ is one of the clearest proofs of this. For example, the old-style MTZ 80 tractor cabs were replaced with a new modern “workplace”, which provides many details and nuances. These details increase the level of comfort during the work process for the operator of the device.

How to make a cabin for a mini tractor yourself?
Mini equipment is extremely popular today.
This is due to the development of small business in all spheres of our life, including agriculture and public utilities. Convenient, universal equipment with a variety of attachments allows you to quickly complete work that previously took days and sometimes weeks. Small mini tractors are often produced in lightweight versions, without a cabin, which greatly complicates work in bad weather. Small businesses and individual entrepreneurs have quickly mastered this remaining vacant niche and offer owners and tenants comfortable cabins.
Modified MTZ models
MTZ-82 served as the basis for the creation of unified models of various specifications. The appearance and technical characteristics of the MTZ-82 were taken as a basis and improved. Tractor modifications:
- MTZ-82.1 is a vehicle with a large driver’s cabin. Simplified checkpoint. The designers have modernized the blade. The tractor is equipped with a reliable electrical circuit, which distinguishes it from all its predecessors.
- MTZ-82R - equipment designed for working in the rice field. Features a new, more reliable clutch system. The transmission has been reconfigured to work in field conditions with water.
- MTZ-82N is a tractor for working in mountainous terrain where the slope exceeds 8°. The wheels are much smaller than the base model. To prevent the engine from overheating due to load, engineers have improved the cooling system.
- MTZ-82K is a model for terrain with a slope angle greater than 10°. Its characteristics are similar to the MTZ-82N. The rear axle has been redesigned, a powerful battery has been installed, this has made it possible to increase stability on various sloped soils.
Cabin structure
A homemade cabin for a mini tractor creates comfort and convenience for workers - with minimal labor and materials, working conditions change dramatically, allowing you to work according to the planned schedule in almost any weather. This applies to any models of mini equipment, including the popular DTZ, T-25 (Russia), Xingtai, Jimna, Dong Feng (China) and others. Largely repeating the design used on production vehicles, homemade cabins are practically no different from them in quality if they are made by professionals under appropriate conditions.
Conditions for cabin assembly
A do-it-yourself cabin for a mini tractor is not something out of science fiction. To carry out work, the following conditions must be created:
- a closed, insulated workshop room with an area of at least 30-40 square meters. m;
- welding and gas cutting machines;
- a set of power tools;
- grinding, drilling, lathe machines;
- paint tools and equipment.
Work order
Before starting work, appropriate measurements are taken of the mini tractor elements on which the frame will later be attached.
To speed up the production process, it is advisable to purchase factory doors, glass, seals for them, door and window locks, handles, clamps, mirrors (sold in spare parts stores). Drawings of the frame, doors, windows are made in accordance with the purchased factory components. Factory glass can be replaced with triplex glass - this will extend the service life and make working conditions more comfortable. When making working drawings, remember that the ceiling must be at least 15 cm above the driver’s head. The following are the steps:
- Preparation of frame parts and fasteners;
- Welding the frame and finishing cleaning of welding areas;
- Welding (fastening) the roof;
- Preparation and welding of bosses onto the tractor frame for subsequent fastening of the frame;
- Anti-corrosion treatment and painting of the frame;
- Glazing, installation of seals and locks on windows and doors;
- Assembly of components and parts;
- Installing the cab and bolting it to the tractor frame.

Advantages and disadvantages
The versatility of the MTZ-82 attracts farmers not only from Belarus, but also from other CIS countries. In addition to its advantages, the tractor also has disadvantages.
Advantages | Flaws |
Good transmission. Allows the tractor to move steadily at lower speeds | Requires effort on the steering wheel |
New gear reducer. This allows you to increase the speed range, with a minimum of only 1.2 km/h | Constant replacement of wearing elements is required until they completely fail |
High tire pressure allows you to increase speed on asphalt roads | It is not always possible to find the necessary spare parts at affordable prices from the manufacturer |
The driver of the transport device can independently adjust the power take-off shaft | Comfort in the driver's cabin is low, there are no conditions for long-term work in the field |
Compared to its predecessor, the MTZ-82 has a new hydraulic attachment system with a hydraulic booster, which allows it to increase the load capacity | Doesn't start well in cold weather |
High maneuverability of the tractor thanks to the front drive axle |
Fact!
The gearbox has two modes: low for work and high for movement and transportation.
