The MAN D2866 diesel engine series is available in two versions: D2866 2V and D2866 4V. The 4-stroke engine design of this series has 6 motors. MAN TGA 18.480: Broken bearings on the fan drive shaft of the MAN D2876LF12 engine

On a MAN TGA 18.480 truck, the engine cooling radiator fan began to vibrate and hit the diffuser. I consulted with specialists and they recommended that I replace the fan drive hub, which I did. However, the replacement did not help and the vibrations did not go away.

I drove like this for some time until something terrible happened - at about 600 thousand km, the fan drive shaft broke and the gear teeth bit. The hub I recently replaced was simply torn out, and the fan and fan shroud were significantly damaged.

There is nothing to do - I started disassembling the damaged mechanism. I did not remove the radiator during the process, because... he didn't interfere with work.

I unscrewed the 3 bolts holding the fan drive shaft, but I couldn’t remove it straight away. Then, he rested the board against the pulley and began to slowly knock with a hammer, and also asked an assistant to use a mounting tool to rock the shaft back and forth. After some time, the drive was finally dismantled.

I disassembled the unit and realized what the problem was. It turned out that the bearings in the fan drive were broken (there are 2 of them) and this led to the mechanism starting to vibrate.

I bought a new fan drive, as well as the fan itself and the casing. The prices for spare parts were, as always, pleasing.

MAN engines use both an adjustable fan support with a separate mounting ring (Euro 3) and a non-adjustable one. Because in my case, the support was adjustable, then I proceeded to adjust the gap of the side surface of the teeth.

Before installation, using a mounting sleeve (zero axial clearance), I secured the fan shaft in the shaft housing. Next, I started installation and configuration.

:

  1. I took a measuring tape and used it to apply two markings (7 mm apart) on the upper side of the fan support clamp;
  2. I placed a new oil scraper ring on the fan support and lubricated it with oil, after which, using a rotational movement, I carefully installed it in place;
  3. I tightened the flange thoroughly, but did it in such a way that the fan support continued to rotate by hand;
  4. Without using tools, I turned the fan support counterclockwise by hand and made a mark on the mating part of the housing;
  5. I turned the fan support 7 mm clockwise, after which I carefully tightened the flange, while maintaining the required tightening torque. Next, I manually turned it counterclockwise until it stops and turned it clockwise 7 mm;

When I installed the fan drive, I pulled the belt pulley as a check and made sure that it did not move, because. play can cause the shaft to hit the gears and thus soon break them.

Next, I started the engine and realized that the vibrations had disappeared and the engine radiator cooling fan began to work quietly, i.e. how to.
