The Russian automobile plant GAZ has been known since the distant, difficult year of 1932. All the years of its active activity, the plant produced durable, unpretentious, universal cars. Today, in the twenty-first century, the plant has reached a new level of development and is famous not only for the production of reliable cars, but also experimental models and military equipment. The GAZ range is wide, but perhaps the most striking project of the last decade is rightfully the GAZ 330811 Vepr. But what kind of car is this and why is it remarkable?
Exterior and interior
GAZ 330811 Vepr is a hybrid of a new generation SUV and a military truck.
Initially, the car was produced as a militarized vehicle, the main qualities of which at all times were stability, capacity, and endurance. But the peaceful life of ordinary people also requires these qualities, especially in the conditions of the terrible roads of the Russian provinces. Therefore, the plant management thought about how to adapt one of the military models to civilian life. This is how the Vepr was created, receiving the power of a military vehicle and the aesthetics of a modern SUV.
The history of the model dates back to the eighties of the last century, when a new project was put into production to replace the GAZ 66. The updated vehicle, at that time exclusively military-style, had to meet more stringent requirements: overcome obstacles, remain operational in conditions of sudden temperature changes and critically low temperatures. The car had to move easily through snow, ice and desert.
It took designers not a single year to build on previous developments to create something new, unique, and meeting all the declared qualities.
The Vepr was first presented to the public in 1997. Technical improvements to the model were carried out in subsequent years.
At first glance, the car amazes the imagination with its dimensions, fascinates, and attracts attention. The menacing appearance of the impressive size of the SUV leaves a wonderful impression. The vehicle was developed on the basis of Sadko trucks: a high, wide platform and a large body were taken from them. Developed on the basis of standardized units from the plant, Vepr turned out to be a winning solution, an excellent option for those who value high-quality, strong machines.
Sharply defined lines, a simple radiator grille, which, at the same time, adds zest to the image of the car, lights located on the roof, a wide windshield - all this creates a unique style of the car, inimitable, incomparable with any SUV, either in aesthetics or on technical qualities.
The interior deserves praise: space, comfort and severe restraint of lines - this is how you can characterize the interior of this car. The steering wheel is large and comfortable, the seat positions can be adjusted in several directions. The dashboard, however, is not as rich as that of famous Western SUVs; there is neither a media system nor climate control. But these technical shortcomings are completely compensated by the feeling of security experienced by the motorist who gets behind the wheel of this titanium, that feeling of superiority on the road that does not leave him until the end of the trip and even much later.

The designers also worked hard on the suspension. Tough enough to withstand all strength tests, it is an achievement of Russian automotive design.

At the moment, the car is available in several versions: cargo and passenger, three- and five-door. There are fifteen seats in the cargo version and eleven in the passenger version. Not bad at all, right?
The Vepr is available in several modifications: with a 4.5-liter carburetor engine with a power of 130 hp, the Vepr “Jager” with an extended cabin with two rows, a modification equipped with a 4.8-liter power unit with a power of 117 hp. and a four-ton modification, complete with all-wheel drive and a turbodiesel with a power of 134 hp.
At the moment, developments within the model continue. As has already become known, it is planned to launch production and mass sale of a nineteen-seat cargo bus and a twelve-seat all-terrain vehicle, adapted for civilian life.

Gas Vepr is a multi-purpose vehicle, which was developed by national designers specifically for operation in difficult climatic and road conditions common to the Russian Federation and other CIS countries.
The car has replaced its past legendary off-road brothers, such as: GAZ-66 (popularly “Shishiga”), GAZ 3308 “Sadko” and others. Actually, the Vepr borrowed all its inherent advantages from the latter: cross-country ability, dynamics and cabin comfort. Modern design will not stand out when used in urban environments. It is ideal for use in off-road conditions, be it the harsh winter in Siberia, insurmountable mud in the spring or the hot African summer.
It's hard to tell at first glance whether it's a jeep or a truck. The car is practically a shortened version of the Sadko (which is actually a truck) and has a modular all-metal body. The SUV is available in two trim levels: cargo-passenger and passenger versions. When the passenger version accommodates 11 passengers, including the driver's seat, the cargo-passenger Vepr honorably retains space for 5 people and is still capable of carrying cargo weighing up to 1.5 tons. Even with such good capacity, the GAZ 330811 can operate in very harsh conditions, namely in a temperature range of 50 degrees Celsius above and below zero, without problems maintaining its purpose in high mountains (up to 4.5 km above sky level) and overcoming passes up to 4, 65 km. For operation, the Gas 33081 Vepr is equipped with two heaters during cold periods of the year - one is located in the cabin, the other in the cabin, and an autonomous analogue of the heater is also mounted under the front seat.
