The assembly crane SKG-631 is designed for construction, installation and loading and unloading operations. The crane is convenient for working with large-sized and heavy-tonnage cargo. The SKG-631 crawler crane has a lifting capacity of up to 63 tons or, in a special version, up to 100 tons, depending on the installed boom equipment and the weight of the counterweight. The crane has an electric multi-motor drive operating on three-phase alternating current with a voltage of 380 V, and can be powered from an external network or from a diesel-electric station located in a separate block. The crane is equipped with tower-jib equipment, consisting of a boom (tower) and a shunting jib. During operation, the boom does not change its position and has a front prestressed brace. The change in the reach of the controlled jib of the tower-boom equipment is carried out by the auxiliary lifting cargo winch. With a boom of 12 m, the crane has a maximum lifting capacity of 100 tons, with a hook lifting height of 11.3 m; when the crane is equipped with a 17.6 m boom, its lifting capacity is 63 tons. The 17.6 m long boom is the main one for the SKG-631 crane. It consists of three sections, with a removable head attached to the end of the boom. With the help of replaceable sections, the boom can be extended to 22.5; 27.7; 32.6 and 37.7 m.

The crane booms can be equipped with a 7.60 m long jib for assisted lifting. Shunting jib 29.2 m long. Using replaceable sections (inserts), its length can be reduced to 24.0; 19.0; 16.6 m. The boom and jib are triangular in section and made of pipes.

The counterweight is made of three parts: the main one - 14 tons and two additional ones - 8.5 tons each. The crane is equipped with two cargo winches: the main lift and the auxiliary one. The slewing support is a double-row ball bearing. The undercarriage with wide caterpillar tracks allows you to work steadily with maximum loads on unpaved sites. The combination of safety devices, limit switches and safety devices allows the crane to be operated safely. To transport the SKG-631 crane by rail, it is disassembled into the following parts: a rotating platform, a support frame, two crawler bogies, additional counterweights, a boom, a shunting jib, inserts in the boom and jib, a shunting jib console and an installation jib. To transport the crane, five four-axle railway platforms are required. The SKG-631 crane is equipped with devices for loading the engine room of a turntable onto a railway platform. Purpose and design of SKG cranes

Crawler cranes are equipped with booms that can be of different shapes. The position of the boom during operation changes relative to the chassis system. The specific pressure of the machine on the ground is 0.1 MPa. Therefore, the devices are considered basic installation devices in energy and industry.

According to their design, the units are divided into:

  1. Self-propelled booms, which have a lifting capacity of 40 to 160 tons. The structures have their own drive mechanisms.
  2. Excavator cranes, which are used on the basis of an excavator. The device has a low load capacity (less than 50 tons) and a group drive mechanism.

The cranes have a lifting capacity of 24, 40, 63 and 100 tons. They can be equipped with various boom system options:

  • tubular boom with short jib;
  • arrow-tower with long jib.

At high lifting heights, the boom can extend up to 60-100 m. The speed depends on the lifting capacity of the units and the size of the boom. The speed of cargo movement ranges from 5 to 25 m/min.

The crane design consists of two parts: rotary and fixed. The design of the rotating part corresponds to wheeled cranes. The fixed part is a running welded frame that is connected to two horizontally placed beams. Final drives are mounted on them. The crane turns as a result of the fact that one of the tracks slows down, and the speed of track 2 increases. If the first caterpillar stops completely, the speed of the second will increase by 2 times, and the crane will turn around its axis.

Crane boom equipment includes the following parts:

  • arrow;
  • trunk;
  • flexible guy;
  • hard traction;
  • rocker with counterweight.

The mass of the counterweight must be such that it can balance the trunk and the boom in any position.

The crawler crane consists of the following parts:

  1. Rotating platform. All the main mechanisms of the crane, the power unit and the portal frame on which the boom is attached are mounted on this system.
  2. A cabin that is mounted on a rotating platform.
  3. Rotary bearing unit.
  4. Support-running unit.
  5. Working equipment. It includes booms of various lengths, hooks, jibs and grabs. The drive of devices with low load capacity comes from a diesel engine with a manual transmission. If the crane's lifting capacity is more than 16 tons, then the drive comes from a diesel generator system. Devices equipped with an electrically powered motor can operate from the mains.

Sometimes a turbo transformer is installed in the transmission, this improves performance. The turbo-transformer system is complex and does not apply when standard parts are used. Individual drive is used more often.

There is no need to prepare a special platform for the crane to operate, since it exerts low specific pressure on the surface, has good maneuverability, and can be deployed on the spot with a load. When assembling equipment, the device rotates the object into a vertical position and delivers it to the designed height.

Recently, interest in assembly crawler cranes has increased. The need for such cranes in the lifting capacity range (lifting capacity) of 25...63 tons is satisfied by rare structures produced 30 or even 40 years ago. Ulyanovsk Mechanical Plant No. 2 produces cranes with a lifting capacity of 100, 125 and 250 tons, but you rarely see them - the plant produced about 500 of them. Large imported cranes are more common. Our crane factories have become more active in anticipation of the upcoming fleet renewal. Nowadays, cranes are in demand mainly in large national projects and the public sector, but it cannot be ruled out that the economy will emerge from the crisis, and then the demand for lifting equipment in civil engineering will rise.

Crawler assembly cranes occupy a specific technological niche. They are used in the construction of bridges and the installation of heavy, large-sized technological equipment. The main difference between a crawler crane and a crane on a special automobile-type chassis of the same lifting capacity is the ability to move with a load on a hook, and with a load equal to the nominal lifting capacity, i.e. the capabilities of a crawler crane are fully realized. The crawler track ensures the stability and maneuverability of the crane on an unprepared site and its maneuverability due to the counter-rotation of the tracks.

Crawler cranes are superior to automobile cranes in terms of lifting characteristics, their booms are longer, and a number of models are supplied with working equipment in a tower-jib design. With crawler cranes, grabs, electromagnets and pile drivers, and equipment for reloading containers are often used. The disadvantage of crawler cranes, i.e. the other side of the advantages, is labor-intensive installation, dismantling and transportation. Installation requires an auxiliary lifting device, or even several, and a corresponding number of vehicles, the number of which when transporting super-heavy cranes can be several dozen.

Crawler assembly cranes are mass-produced by two Russian factories – Chelyabinsk Mechanical Plant (ChMZ) and Ulyanovsk Mechanical Plant No. 2 (UMZ No. 2). In the 1970–1980s, the Ramensky Mechanical Plant produced diesel-electric cranes SKG-40, SKG-40/63, SKG-401, SKG-63, SKG-63/100, SKG-631. Now the plant buys used cranes of the SKG-631, SKG-505, SKG-401 types, restores them, produces spare parts, boom equipment and metal structures for the cranes.

The domestic crane industry is characterized by the use of a diesel-electric drive, while the Western world has completely switched to a hydraulic one. Loyalty to tradition provides advantages that are becoming especially obvious today. Due to the domestic aggregate base, the crane wins in price. The technology has been proven for decades; diesel-electric cranes have good maintainability, as evidenced by the survivability of machines manufactured 20, 30, 40 years ago. At low temperatures or, conversely, at high temperatures, the electric drive is more efficient than the hydraulic one. An electric crane also has the advantage of being able to connect to an external 380 V network, and at a remote site where there is no power supply, it can be used as a power plant.

But the age of hydraulics is coming inexorably. In 2004, ChMZ produced its first hydraulic crane DEK-361, the “junior” model in the UMP No. 2 range also with a hydraulic drive, the Klintsovsky Crane Plant took up the caterpillar theme with a hydraulic drive, and the Ivanovo “Avtokran” is also designing a hydraulic crane.

The Chelyabinsk Mechanical Plant began to deal with lifting equipment immediately after the war; the plant produced the first crawler diesel-electric crane DEK-20 in 1956. ChMZ has gained extensive experience in crane construction, its crawler cranes enjoy a good reputation among builders (unlike truck cranes). The plant has been producing the diesel-electric crane DEK-251 since 1970. In 1985, the diesel-electric DEK-631 with a capacity of 63 tons went into production, and now its modification DEK-631A is being produced. In 2003, production also began of the diesel-electric crane DEK-321 with a capacity of 32 tons, and in 2004 - the 36-ton DEK-361 with a hydraulic drive. In 2007, the plant presented a new development - the 40-ton DEK-401 crane, again with an electric drive.

Cranes with a lifting capacity of 25...36 tons are equipped with a 14-meter lattice boom, extended by inserts up to 32.75 m. The DEK-401 boom is 15...35 m long with a membrane structure; on DEK-631A the main lattice boom of 18 m is extended to 42 m. The boom can be supplemented with an unguided jib 5 or 10 m long. For models with a lifting capacity of 32...63 t, tower-jib equipment is provided with a tower with a height of 19 to 36 m and a jib with a length of 15 to 37.75 m. All cranes, except for DEC models -251 and DEK-361A are equipped with caterpillar tracks with an adjustable track, which simplifies their transportation.

The mechanical part and electrical equipment of the cranes are built on domestic components, so they are easy to repair. The DEK-361 hydraulic drive uses imported components, but the price of the crane was kept at a competitive level. The hydraulic drive made it possible to achieve better characteristics - smooth operation of the drives, low landing speed, which ensures accuracy during installation work. The new model DEK-401 uses a slewing bearing device from the well-known company PSL (Slovakia), which reduces the resistance during rotation of the turntable and the “swinging” of the crane.

Ulyanovsk Mechanical Plant No. 2 produces cranes MKGS-32 (capacity 32 t), MKGS-100.1 (capacity 100 t), MKGS-125.01 (capacity 125 t) and MKGS-250 (capacity 250 t) . The MKGS-32 crane is the only one in the plant’s program with a hydraulic drive. This crane is distinguished by an adjustable track track and unification with truck cranes, which has a positive effect on its price and maintainability.

The remaining cranes are produced with a diesel-electric drive. The hundred-ton crane, which UMP has been producing since 1980, has been modernized several times. The drives are powered by a diesel power plant, which is installed on a turntable or stand-alone, as well as from a 380 V electrical network. The crane is equipped with a boom length from 22 to 57 m. When using a 12-meter unguided jib, the load can be lifted on the main or auxiliary hook . There is a variant of tower-boom equipment with a main boom up to 57 m long and a jib 26...40 m long. The crane is configured according to a modular principle, which simplifies its installation, dismantling and transportation.

The MKGS-125 crane with a lifting capacity of 125 tons was created on the basis of a 100-ton truck. The crane is supplied with jib or tower-jib working equipment, which allows for cargo handling work without moving the crane in a working area with a diameter of up to 88 m, at heights from 20.3 to 101.2 m and in the lifting capacity range from 125 to 4 tons.

The most powerful in the production program of the Ulyanovsk plant and among domestic cranes MKGS-250 is intended for the installation of large-block and heavy equipment and structures during the construction and reconstruction of enterprises in the petrochemical, chemical, metallurgical and other industries. The crane operates on outriggers, is equipped with replaceable boom and turret-boom equipment, removable drive crawler bogies, thanks to which it can move around the site under its own power without a load, as well as with a load of 125 tons on the main boom. The main boom with a length of 31 m can be increased to 43 with the help of inserts; 61 and 73 m and equipped with an unguided 10-meter jib. Tower-boom equipment is assembled from elements of a boom and a shunting jib. The fixed tower with heights of 31, 43, 61 and 73 m can be equipped with jib lengths of 16, 22, 28, 40 and 52 m. The crane can also be equipped with pneumatic crawler tracks.

The appearance of a crawler crane at the Klintsovsky Truck Crane Plant became a sensation in 2008. The first copy of the RDK-36 crane was assembled on an imported component base, and state acceptance tests were scheduled for the end of May of this year. The second copy is in development. The crane with a lifting capacity of 36 t and a load moment of up to 144 tfm is equipped with a lattice boom 15 m long, which can be extended to 40 m with quick-release 5 and 10 meter inserts. If necessary, you can install an unguided jib with a length of 1; 5 or 10 m and an additional cargo winch. The drive of all crane mechanisms is hydraulic. Imported crawler crane chassis with adjustable track and stamped shoes. In the working position, the support contour created by the crawler tracks provides a uniform load characteristic in a circular working area. The crane can move with a load weighing up to 10 tons on the hook. Installation and dismantling of the crane is carried out autonomously without the use of additional lifting equipment.

The long-term plans of the Ivanovo "Avtokran" include creating a universal tracked chassis and on its basis a crane DKG-50.1 (KS-6161) with a lifting capacity of 50 tons with a two-section lattice boom and a crane DKG-100.1 with a lifting capacity of 100 tons with a 4-section telescopic boom, the same as on the mobile 100-tonne KS-8973. In 2009 they plan to create a prototype of a lattice boom crane, in 2010 - a pilot batch, and in 2011 to put it into mass production. A prototype of a crane with a telescopic boom should be ready in 2010, and production will begin next year.

Among foreign suppliers, the most famous companies are Liebherr, Manitowoc Cranes, Kobelco, Hitachi Sumitomo. Sennebogen not only deals with pneumatic cranes and material handlers, it also produces a wide range of crawler cranes. The Italian company TSM has announced itself. Chinese manufacturers are also encroaching on the rather narrow market segment of crawler cranes, in particular XCMG, Sany, Zoomlion. Many of the Chinese suppliers, for example Yutong, which produces not only buses, did not declare themselves.

Liebherr produces crawler cranes in three series. Cranes 10 basic models of the LR series with lifting capacity from 104.5 to 1350 t (cranes with lifting capacity up to 300 t are supplied to Russia). The LTR series has two models with a telescopic boom with a lifting capacity of 100 and 1200 tons. The HS series is draglines based on heavy excavators. A distinctive feature of Liebherr cranes is their own design and production of engines and hydraulic drive units. Liebherr cranes are characterized by good lifting capacity in most configurations, flexible boom layout, quick and easy self-assembly, simple and economical transportation, modern electronic control system (based on CAN bus), calculation of the maximum permissible current lifting capacity in real time, operational reliability due to the presence of redundant security systems, quality of workmanship, good reputation among Russian builders, a relatively large fleet and availability of service.

The German company Sennebogen offers 10 models of crawler cranes with a lattice boom and three models with a telescopic one. Six models of the HD series of lattice boom cranes with lifting capacities from 30 to 180 tons are designed for severe operating conditions, including in earthmoving work as draglines. They are equipped with a boom length from 32 to 84 m.

Four models of the Star-Lifter series with a capacity of 80…180 t are designed for high-rise installation. They are equipped with working equipment with derricks with hook lifting heights from 67 to 105 m. Three models with a lifting capacity of 16, 40 and 80 tons with a telescopic boom are characterized by the fact that their rotating platform and crane equipment are unified with pneumatic wheel cranes.

The Italian company TSM, whose interests it represents, began operating in the Russian segment of crawler cranes with telescopic booms. TSM supplies three models with a capacity of 35; 50 and 70 t with 5-section telescopic boom and lattice or telescopic jib and track with adjustable track. The peculiarity of these cranes is that they are equipped with supports. The TSM company is also known for supplying booms for Sokol cranes.

Manitowoc Cranes markets 15 models of lattice boom crawler cranes from 73 to 2,300 tons, with a focus on heavy and extra-heavy cranes. To reduce the installation and dismantling time of the crane, the company has developed FACT technology (Fast Alignment Connection Technology). Cranes are capable of moving with a load on the hook equal to the rated lifting capacity. Cranes with a lifting capacity of up to 600 t, inclusive, have two interchangeable tracks; the super-heavy models 21000 (lifting capacity 907 t) and 31000 (lifting capacity 2300 t) have four crawler bogies with two tracks each. The maximum hook lifting height for the 300-ton crane model 2250 is 119 m, for the model 31000 it is 207 m. When disassembled, the crane 2250 is transported on 15 trailers. For model 31000, an original counterweight extension system has been developed. The hydraulic system supports and deflects the counterweight in weight to a minimum distance from the turntable. The crane requires less space to turn the turntable and does not require a prepared platform for the counterweight wheel support, as is the case with smaller Liebherr cranes.

In our country, Terex Demag is better known for mobile cranes rather than crawler cranes, which is not surprising. The company deals with heavy and super-heavy cranes ranging from a lifting capacity of 300 tons to a monster lifting 3200 tons on two booms.

Kobelco cranes with a lifting capacity of 60...250 tons are supplied to the Russian market, and the company itself produces several series of hydraulic crawler cranes with lattice and telescopic booms. The 7000 series includes 10 basic models with a lifting capacity of 35…750 t with a lattice boom. This is complemented by the SL13000 model with a capacity of 800 tons. These 11 models are made in accordance with the requirements of Japanese national regulations, which are stricter than European ones, for example regarding exhaust toxicity and noise.

For the European market, Kobelco offers the CKE series of eight models with lattice boom capacities from 60 to 250 t, complemented by two heavy-duty SL series cranes – SL4500 and SL6000 with capacities of 400 and 550 t.

For difficult working conditions, the company has developed a VM series of three models with a capacity of 80; 90 and 100 t with lattice boom. There are two special models in the LM series, in which the boom equipment is replaced with a pile driver. Cranes with a telescopic boom are represented by models with a capacity of 35; 55 and 75 t.

The Hitachi Sumitomo Heavy Industries Construction Crane company was created several years ago by Hitachi and Sumitomo corporations for the purpose of joint development and production of crane equipment and supplies the world market with 13 models of hydraulic crawler cranes with a lifting capacity of 30...650 tons with a lattice boom. Models 80 and 90 are also available in the HD (Heavy Duty) version for severe conditions. It is possible to supply the crane with tower jib equipment. For fast autonomous assembly, the cranes are equipped with a short auxiliary boom, with which the tracks, counterweight and main boom are mounted.

Thus, if the renewal of the crawler crane fleet begins, domestic crane builders will still compete for a place in the sun in the segment with a lifting capacity of up to 250 tons, the most saturated and competitive. And if greater carrying capacity is required, then abroad will help.

The SKG-631 crawler crane has a lifting capacity of up to 63 tons or, in a special version, up to 100 tons, depending on the installed boom equipment and the weight of the counterweight. The crane has an electric multi-motor drive operating on three-phase alternating current with a voltage of 380 V, and can be powered from an external network or from a diesel-electric station located in a separate block. The crane is equipped with tower-jib equipment, consisting of a boom (tower) and a shunting jib. During operation, the boom does not change its position and has a front prestressed brace. The change in the reach of the controlled jib of the tower-boom equipment is carried out by the auxiliary lifting cargo winch. With a boom of 12 m, the crane has a maximum lifting capacity of 100 tons, with a hook lifting height of 11.3 m; when the crane is equipped with a 17.6 m boom, its lifting capacity is 63 tons. The 17.6 m long boom is the main one for the SKG-631 crane. It consists of three sections, with a removable head attached to the end of the boom. With the help of replaceable sections, the boom can be extended to 22.5; 27.7; 32.6 and 37.7 m.

The counterweight is made of three parts: the main one - 14 tons and two additional ones - 8.5 tons each. The crane is equipped with two cargo winches: the main lift and the auxiliary one. The slewing support is a double-row ball bearing. The undercarriage with wide caterpillar tracks allows you to work steadily with maximum loads on unpaved sites. The combination of safety devices, limit switches and safety devices allows the crane to be operated safely. To transport the SKG-631 crane by rail, it is disassembled into the following parts: a rotating platform, a support frame, two crawler bogies, additional counterweights, a boom, a shunting jib, inserts in the boom and jib, a shunting jib console and an installation jib. SKG-50

The diesel-electric crane SKG-50 has a lifting capacity of 50 tons, can operate on a 380 V mains voltage. The boom length is 15 m. Using inserts, the boom length can be increased to 30, 35 and 40 m. The kit includes a head for a 15 m boom for a lifting capacity of 50 tons and a second head for installing a shunting beak for a lifting capacity of 30 tons.
