Engine

The engine installed in the KamAZ-4308 model was developed specifically for it. A medium-tonnage truck could have appeared back in the 90s, but at that moment Kama Auto used technologies developed in the Soviet years. The GAZelles received a power plant from the Volga, and the ZIL Bychki received MAZ engines. The Kama Automobile Plant simply did not have a unit suitable for a medium-tonnage truck.

The development of the engine for KamAZ-4308 started in 2001. As a result, an engine appeared that was practically not inferior to foreign analogues. At the same time, the Kama Automobile Plant began to cooperate with the Cummins company, and in 2006 the Cummins Kama joint venture was organized. The American brand had in its lineup a unit suitable for a domestic car. This is what they began to install on KamAZ-4308. Parameters of this power plant:

KavZ and PAZ buses were again equipped with similar engines.

Since 2006, KamAZ-4308 has received a new 6-cylinder engine produced at the Cummins Kama plant. The Cummins ISBe engine complied with the Euro-5 standard and had an electronically controlled Common Rail fuel system. again, the thickness of the cylinder walls was increased, which helped with repairs. The bottom of the pan and the cylinder block were covered with a steel tile, reducing noise levels and adding rigidity. The drive of the compressor, water pump and generator fan received force through a poly-V-belt with an auto-tensioner. The fan was located on the front toe of the crankshaft. The viscous fan clutch ensured quick warm-up of the engine.

Characteristics of the Cummins ISBe unit:

• rated power 140 (210) hp.

The main drawback of the Cummins ISBe power plant was the regular breakdown of starters. But the problem was soon fixed.

At the same time, the engines were distinguished by their low noise level, significant traction properties and efficiency.

The amount of fuel consumed in freight transport, in particular on Kamaz dump trucks, is always taken into account in the loaded state and depends on the load capacity. The modern KamAZ 43255 is based on a classic platform with a 4 by 2 wheel arrangement and leaf spring suspension in the front and rear. KamAZ 43255 is offered with several transmission options:

• 6-speed manual transmission ZF 6S700 with mechanical remote control. The gearbox is reliable and can work in conjunction with any engines;
• 5-speed manual transmission KamAZ 141 with 3-way switching device and synchronizers. It is aggregated exclusively with engines with a torque of up to 850 Nm.

The transmission is complemented by a pull-type diaphragm single-plate clutch.

The basic versions of KamAZ 43255 are equipped with a classic cab, the design of which has remained virtually unchanged since the mid-1970s (the height of the cab has increased, the windshield has become solid). The small size of the cabin allows you to get to the cabin quickly enough. While the design of the car has changed slightly, the interior has changed noticeably. The dashboard is designed in a new style and lined with safety plastic. On the mezzanine there are heater controls, shelves and a glove compartment. The panel itself is turned towards the driver for ease of control. The switches are installed next to the driver on a ledge, the gearbox shift lever is located vertically near the driver's seat. KamAZ 43255 is equipped with an efficient heater, which allows you to travel without problems in harsh winter conditions. At the same time, the device operates almost silently. If necessary, the cabin can be raised to an angle of 55 degrees using a hydraulic mechanism.

KamAZ 43255 is equipped with an onboard platform and a hydraulic system from the NefAZ company. The body has a one-sided rear unloading type and an oval cross-section. For additional protection of cargo from the external environment, the vehicle can be equipped with a canopy.

The basic equipment of the model includes an adjustable steering column, a driver's seat with air suspension, a 3-blade windshield wiper, an interior heater, an anti-glare panel, power steering and 2 batteries.
