The world's largest mining dump trucks.

The world remains primarily dependent on fossil fuels for energy production.
This means that for billions of people on the planet, mining, along with oil, remains the most important thing. To extract fossil fuels from the depths of the earth, efficient vehicles are needed that can save the cost of extraction. Fortunately, the modern world can boast of amazing special technology that works for the benefit of humanity. Today we invite you to look at the world's largest mining dump trucks, which transport huge quantities of solid minerals.

Hitachi EH50000AC-3

The dump truck began selling in 2012. This is Hitachi's largest dump truck with the largest iron frame. The truck has a carrying capacity of 326 tons, and the length of the vehicle is 15.51 meters.

The body width is 8.6 meters, the body height is 7.41 meters. The truck is equipped with a 16-cylinder diesel engine.

In addition, the dump truck uses an electric powertrain. The maximum speed is 90 km/h.

Liebherr-T282B

During the presentation of this dump truck in Germany, it was called the “eighth wonder of the world.” Its total weight is slightly more than 570 tons, and the truck is capable of carrying 363 tons.

The car can be equipped with two power units. The first is an 18-cylinder Cummins QSK 78 (like the BelAZ-75600), the second is a 20-cylinder Detroit Diesel with a displacement of 90 liters and a power of 3650 horsepower. Moreover, the engine package also includes alternating current generators with electric motors located on the rear axle (generators on the front axle). The braking system is hybrid. And the role of the “first violin” is assigned to the electrodynamic system.

As for the equipment, it corresponds to the latest technology. A large space is occupied by the liquid crystal dashboard, on which numerous information is displayed, including images from cameras installed around the perimeter of the dump truck. The cabin itself is distinguished by excellent noise and dust insulation, powerful air conditioning, a stove and an audio system.

Caterpillar 795F AC

The Caterpillar 795F AC with a lifting capacity of 345 tons has two body modifications. One is designed for transporting coal.

The total length of the machine is 15.15 meters. The width is 8.97 meters and the body height is 7.04 meters. The weight of the loaded vehicle is 628 tons.

Belaz 75600

Belaz 75600 is currently one of the world's largest mining dump trucks. The car is produced by Belarusian Automobile Plant OJSC. BelAZ produces vehicles for the mining industry. Model 75600 BelAZ has a load capacity of 352 tons. The maximum gross weight is 617 tons. Length: 14.9 meters, Width: 9.6 meters, Height: 7.47 meters.

Terex MT 5500 AC

Terex MT 5500 AC with a lifting capacity of 360 tons, designed for large volume mining operations. The maximum loaded weight of the dump truck is 598 tons. The length of the truck is 14.87 meters. The width of the body is 9.05 meters. The height of the dump truck is 7.67 meters. The machine is equipped with a four-stroke 16-cylinder engine with a power of 3000 hp. An electric motor is also installed to assist the internal combustion engine. The maximum speed of the truck is 100 km/h.

Terex/Bucyrus MT6300AC

BucyrusMT6300AC are the world's largest trucks. This truck was renamed from Terex to Bucyrus after their mining equipment division was acquired in 2010. It features heated body technology for more efficient unloading in cold climates. With a lifting capacity of 360 tons, the MT6300AC has a top speed of 64 km/h and is powered by a 20-cylinder four-stroke diesel engine.

The Bucyrus MT6300AC, powered by a 20V4000 four-stroke diesel engine producing 3,750 horsepower, has two geared electric motors located on each side of the rear axle. By the way, unloading certain materials in cold climates becomes easier and faster with this truck.

Caterpillar

The Caterpillar 797 is a giant forklift that can fit a small house in its back. Its weight is 260 tons , and it is capable of transporting more than 400 tons of minerals .

The tires of this multi-ton truck alone weigh about five tons. But having such a big plus in carrying capacity, the dump truck also has a minus - it consumes a large amount of gasoline.

It has a seven-speed manual transmission and two diesel engines. The car monster, which is unusual for other models, has rear-wheel drive.

The maximum speed of the dump truck is not determined because the manufacturers installed an electronic speed limiter on the vehicle, which allows a limit of 65 km/h. But with such dimensions, introducing a limiter is a reasonable decision.

The cost of this monster is an average of 160 million rubles . The 797 is not often used in quarry work, so the company often specializes in smaller models. In addition, the tire supplier for this model is a monopolist, which makes its price sky-high.

For example, the 740 model, at the request of the customer, is equipped with a special ejector to get rid of cargo without lifting the body. Moreover, the price of such a heavy truck is much lower.

Caterpillar 797F

This is the latest fresh model of a mining dump truck produced by Caterpillar. This truck is the second largest mining truck in the world. The maximum loading weight is 687.5 tons. The length of the dump truck is 14.8 meters. Height 6.52 meters. Width 9.75 meters. Load capacity – 400 tons. The car was released in 2009. The truck is equipped with a 20-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine. The maximum speed is 110 km/h.

Japanese Komatsu 980E-4

The model was introduced by the American division of Komatsu Corporation in 2016 and has a lifting capacity of 400 tons. This is Komatsu's largest electric drive truck. Equipped with a large shovel capacity of up to 76 m3, the Komatsu 980E-4 is suitable for large-scale mining operations.

The total operating weight is 625 tons, and the loading height and width are 7.09 m and 10.01 m, respectively. Komatsu dump trucks are driven by a Komatsu four-stroke diesel engine.

797B

By design, the Caterpillar 797B is an ordinary truck, albeit very large; it took second place in terms of load capacity in the whole world. The giant, with a total weight of almost 624 tons, is capable of carrying 345 tons of cargo. At the same time, it has a design that is quite exotic for mining dump trucks. Although, if you look at it from an ordinary automotive point of view, the Caterpillar 797B is built according to traditional, even rather classical, canons: a rear-wheel drive car with front steered wheels, a turbodiesel engine and a hydromechanical transmission.

The power unit of the Caterpillar 797B is amazing: 24 cylinders, 117 liters of displacement, 3550 horsepower and 16000 Nm of torque! To create such an engine, engineers actually had to take two twelve-cylinder Cat-3512B engines and combine them together. Despite the large volume, the engine power is only 4 horsepower more than that of the BelAZ. The manufacturer promises to compensate for such “stinginess” with increased engine life, and it was for this purpose that the maximum speed was limited.

But the torque here is truly record-breaking: more than 16,000 Nm! From the engine, the torque is transmitted through a short driveshaft to the largest gearbox in the world! The hydromechanical planetary gearbox has 7 stages and is controlled by a computer. In general, the Caterpillar 797B is rightfully considered one of the most electronics-packed mining dump trucks. The central unit controls hundreds of parameters and, depending on external conditions, adjusts the operation of the engine, transmission and braking system.

So, when starting a loaded dump truck or going uphill, the system briefly increases the torque by 22% of the nominal value and selects the optimal moments for shifting gears, and during braking it prevents the wheels from locking and the vehicle moving off the trajectory. The Americans' love for automatic transmissions and displacement engines has also made itself felt in heavy equipment - the Caterpillar 797B boasts the largest transmission and the largest engine. What we really had to work hard on was the braking system.

If among competitors, electrodynamic brakes take on the bulk of the work, here the entire load falls on hydraulics. In order to guarantee stopping a fully loaded vehicle, the total working area of the brake discs had to be increased to 33 m2 - this is more than three times more than that of the same Komatsu. In addition, the brakes have a powerful oil cooling system and a backup circuit with a hydraulic lock - as soon as the pressure in the circuit drops, the brake cylinders stop the car under the action of a spring.

Two pedals, a steering wheel, an automatic selector – the driver’s workplace is quite ordinary. By the way, the Caterpillar 797B boasts several records: the largest engine – 117 liters of displacement and 24 cylinders; the largest transmission, the highest maximum speed - almost 68 km/h; the most spacious fuel tank is 6800 liters. But still, the mighty Liebherr-T282B prevents him from taking first place.
