Replacing MAZ pads - installation features

When removing the MAZ hub to replace the pads, the final drive does not need to be disassembled.

It is enough to unscrew the crown and remove the drum, and for disc wheels the procedure will be even simpler.

It is possible to unscrew the cover, dismantle the axle shaft with satellites and unscrew the hub nuts without removing the satellite housing.

Do not forget that it is better to take new MAZ pads.

To remove and install the MAZ hub assembly, you can make a special wrench from a weaving pipe.

Problems may arise with unscrewing the drum; the crown is also sometimes difficult to remove from its seat. It is very important to regularly check the tightness of the crown.

Removing it together with the onboard is a fairly convenient option, since you can immediately change the seals and also check the presence of all axle stops.

It wouldn't hurt to check the bearings and bushings. On the other hand, it is more convenient to install the hub separately from the drum.

How to control the volume of coolant in MAZ cars?

To control the antifreeze level, MAZ vehicles do not provide devices such as a dipstick. However, overflowing liquid can clog the cooler, so the level must be monitored.

This is easier to do if the tank is clearly visible.

Antifreeze should be poured from under the cladding. You can move the expansion tank outside the cabin and install a plastic container.

It is important that the container is level above the stove.

What wheels are better to put on MAZ?

Remember that you cannot install tires of different heights on one axle; over time, this will lead to gearbox failure.

If your car already has tires of different heights, it is worth replacing them.

Purchasing a set of MAZ wheels is not cheap, but repairing an average gearbox will cost much more.

Softer tires should be installed on the MAZ middle axle. As a rule, the load is lower here.

True, with a balanced suspension, the load on the axles will be approximately the same.

The principle of operation of the brake system in MAZ

MAZ model tractors are very popular among car enthusiasts due to their reliability and reasonable cost. This vehicle has been manufactured at a specialized plant in Minsk since 1988.

The car has a large cabin and ease of operation. The salon has two comfortable soft chairs. If necessary, the cabin can be tilted to the rear position thanks to the presence of a hydraulic cylinder, which is activated manually. Vehicles are distinguished by increased reliability and endurance, especially when transporting large cargo over long distances.

The MAZ brake system acts as the main component of the vehicle. If certain faults are detected in it, the driver loses confidence in his own safety. In such a case, you should not neglect repairs and seek help from a specialist as soon as possible.

In MAZ cars there are four systems simultaneously, which are quite closely intertwined. Among them it should be noted:

  • Working.
  • A spare system (it comes into operation after the first one breaks down).
  • Parking system (if it breaks down, the vehicle will not stand in one place and parking problems will arise).
  • Auxiliary (turns off the engine).

How to quickly check MAZ brakes?

Due to the design features of the truck brake unit, monitoring the condition of the MAZ brake pads is not particularly difficult.

If the distance from the surface of the friction linings to the rivet head is less than 1 mm, the parts need to be replaced.

New linings are mounted by riveting to the MAZ pads, the gap should not exceed 0.3 mm. The assembled pads are processed from the outside to the nominal size.

There are special parameters for assessing the wear of fist journals, and the same applies to bushings. The former are welded to the required level, the latter must be replaced. The wheel brake is assembled in the reverse order; the axles must be lubricated.

Signs of MAZ pad failures

The following signs indicate a malfunction in the truck's brake system:

Failures in the brake mechanisms also manifest themselves in violation of the tightness of the pneumatic drive, increased braking distance, uneven wear of MAZ pads and heating of the drums.

These signs cannot be ignored; the mechanisms must be checked, replacing components if necessary.

Where to buy MAZ pads?

You can order everything you need for quick and correct repairs in our catalog. The official dealer of the Minsk Automobile Plant guarantees the highest quality, affordable price and wide range.

Lighting and light signaling systems

The lighting system includes headlights, spotlights, fog lights, front and rear lights, reversing lights, cabin and bed lights, an engine compartment light, lamps and a set of switching equipment (switches, switches, relays, etc.) .

The light signaling system includes turn indicators, brake signals, a road train identification sign and equipment for turning them on.

Cars are equipped with two sound signals: pneumatic, installed on the roof of the cab, and electric, consisting of two signals: low and high tones. A noise relay-buzzer is also installed, signaling a decrease in air pressure in the brake system circuits and clogging of the engine air and oil filters, which is determined by the change in pressure when the filters are clogged.

How to replace brake pads? Simple repair - we show you step by step

A properly functioning car braking system is the basis for road safety. But brakes need timely maintenance, first of all this concerns brake pads, which wear out and are simply erased by friction against the brake disc. You can come to a car service center and pay to replace the brake pads. But some people would prefer to save money and do everything themselves. Firstly, it is not difficult, and secondly, it is interesting. We’ll show you everything step by step in today’s episode of “Simple Repair,” a joint project of Onliner with 1akb.by and Exide.

Brake pads are a consumable item. During their service life, the pads not only wear down heavily, but also repeatedly overheat, which is why the material from which they are made hardens, losing its properties. Accordingly, the pads perform their function worse, the car brakes worse - in general, a problem.

Some cars have a brake pad wear sensor - the system itself will signal when it’s time to change them. If there is no such sensor, you need to focus not on mileage (the pads may wear unevenly, depending on various factors), but on sensations. For example, in most cases, pad wear will be indicated by noise when braking. Many manufacturers, when making pads, equip them with a wear indicator - this is a piece of metal that begins to come into contact with the metal brake disc when the pad is worn out, producing a characteristic sound. Or you just noticed that the car began to brake worse. There is absolutely no need to joke with the brakes - they need to be replaced immediately.

How to change brake pads yourself? We'll tell you step by step.

MAZ car brake repair

In service brakes, the friction lining on the surface of the drums, as well as the bushings and necks of the expansion cams and the axles of the pads are subject to the greatest wear.

Disassembly of the front wheel brake is given in the article “Repair of the front axle and steering rods of the MAZ”.

The thickness of the linings must be at least 7 mm with a lining margin of 1 mm to the control shoulder or rivet head. Cracks, chipping and chipping are not allowed on the surface of the lining.

Install new linings and rive them to the blocks using a special device that ensures a tight fit of the lining to the surface of the block. The local gap between the block and the lining should not be more than 0.1 mm.

The shape of the rivet, its dimensions, as well as the dimensions of the hole for the rivet in the plate are shown in Fig. 1.

Riveting is done from the block side, and the head of the rivet must lie on a mandrel that ensures that the head retains its shape during the riveting process.

Riveting can be done in a vice using a simple tool.

After riveting the linings, the pads assembled with the linings must be processed in pairs along the outer diameter to the nominal size, if the drum has not been bored to the repair size.

If the drum was bored to one of the repair sizes, then the pads assembled with linings must be machined to the same repair size number (see table).

The processing of the pads is carried out on a lathe using a special installation that ensures the correct placement of a pair of pads.

The processing scheme is shown in Fig. 2 and 3. The bases for processing are surfaces A and B of the wheel hub flange or the hub axle.

Before treating the brakes, it is necessary to check the runout of the base surfaces relative to the axis of rotation; permissible runout:

— surface “A” — 0.2 mm;

— surface “B” — 0.1 mm.

If the runout of the base surfaces of the hub exceeds the permissible value, the hub must be replaced.

The procedure for processing the overlays is as follows:

— fix the adjusting lever motionlessly at a distance Г = 90 mm from the mating plane of the brake chamber mounting bracket using a device;

— by rotating the hexagon of the worm shaft of the adjusting lever, set the dimension “D” between the centers of the axes of the brake pad rollers equal to 95+1.0 mm (Fig. 3);

MAZ pads

The MAZ pads are adjusted to regulate the brake system and the brakes as a whole. Typically, the need for this process arises at the moment when the process of installing new brakes occurs. The basis of the adjustment is precisely setting the optimal gap between the pads and the surface side of the brake drum. In other words, to adjust the brake system, you need to separate the pads and fix them at a nominal distance from each other.

The nominal distance is considered to be the distance separating the drum and the linings, 0.4 mm long. This value is not random; it is equal to the rod stroke of the brake chambers in the range from 25 to 40 mm. By increasing the stroke of the rods to 45 mm, it is necessary to adjust the brakes. The maximum difference in the stroke of the braking chamber rods to each axis should be no more than 8 mm.

Power supply and electric starting system

The vehicle's power supply system consists of two sources: batteries and an alternating current generator set. In addition, the system includes a number of intermediate relays, a battery mass switch and a key switch for instruments and starter.

The electric starting system includes batteries, a starter, a battery disconnect switch, a key switch for instruments and the starter, an electric torch device (EFD), a vapor-liquid heater (SHL), and intermediate relays.
