A little about the Mytishchi Machine-Building Plant
The enterprise in Mytishchi, near Moscow, traces its history back to 1897. Initially it was a carriage and tram building plant. It is here that cars for the Moscow Metro have been mass-produced since 1934 to this day. During the Great Patriotic War, the production facilities of the enterprise produced self-propelled guns SAU-76, SG-122, and light tanks T-80.
In the first post-war years, without stopping the production of cars, MMZ established mass production of dump trucks on the ZIS-05 chassis. Subsequently, Mytishchensky Machine-Building Plant became the largest manufacturer of dump trucks on the ZIS/ZIL chassis - with rear, two- and three-way unloading. In the 1970-80s, production volume reached figures that are fantastic for modern times: two hundred dump trucks per day (about 50 thousand cars per year).

Currently, the main products of MMZ OJSC are tracked chassis for military equipment. The powers of the Sole Executive Body of OJSC Mytishchi Machine-Building Plant have been transferred to the Managing Organization - JSC Concern Kalashnikov. Today, eleven modifications of such machines are produced for mounting various weapons and special equipment.
As for the production of civilian products (cars and dump trucks), in 2009 it was separated into a separate enterprise - Metrovagomash, with appropriate demarcation and division of property. Therefore, legally, the Mytishchi Machine-Building Plant is in our time a purely defense enterprise.
History of ZIL-MMZ-4502
In the mid-1970s, the niche for medium-tonnage cargo transportation was firmly occupied by the ZIL-130. More than a million of these reliable and spacious trucks were produced. More than 30 modifications were assembled on ZIL chassis, from fire trucks to tractors, adapted for work in the Far North.
By 1976, tests of the dump truck were completed, the production of which was transferred to the Mytishchi Metallurgical Plant. It was distinguished from the base model by a shortened wheelbase and a visor on the body. In addition, some technical components have been improved.
ZIL 4502 became a follower of the 130 model
Description of the car
The dump truck was intended for transportation of bulk materials, construction materials, equipment and other cargo. It could withstand a weight of up to 5 tons and performed well both off-road and in urban conditions. Its relatively small size and turning radius (7 m) made it a universal solution for cargo transportation in the city, region and at remote sites.
The car was equipped with extension sides for transporting bulk cargo and an awning with a frame to protect the cargo from dirt and precipitation. Loading and unloading was carried out from above or from behind through the folding side. The body was equipped with folding seats for transporting people (up to 16 people). The ability to tow a trailer is not provided, but two hooks above the front bumper made it possible, if necessary, to pull out another stuck car.
In the photo, model 4502 is easily recognizable by the visor above the windshield and the bright blue color of the cabin. The interior did not receive a memorable finish, but heat and sound insulation were noticeably improved.

ZIL dump truck model 433180 - full review
Since the late 90s to this day, domestic cars have been going through difficult times. Despite this, the plant does not postpone the development of new truck models until later, but on the contrary, makes every effort to ensure that this or that model is mass-produced. Thus, the most successful projects of ZIL’s “crisis times” can rightfully be considered models of medium-duty vehicles of the “Bychok” family and heavy trucks called ZIL-433180 (flatbed modifications and dump trucks). Moreover, the latter gained great popularity immediately after its debut on the domestic market. So, let's take a closer look at what the ZIL dump truck model 433180 is.
Design
The appearance of the new product turned out to be very successful, harmonious and even attractive. The “donor” for the development of the cabin was model 4331, which had been in mass production since 1992. In contrast, the ZIL dump truck model 433180 has a more elongated hood and interior design, although, if you look at the new product in profile, the overall layout still resembles its older brother, model 4331. The front fascia now has a more modern look - a new radiator grille and a slightly modified bumper give the car an attractive appearance.
Interior
Unfortunately, the positive changes affected only the external appearance - all the details in the cabin remained as old and poor as those of the 1992 “donor”. Black leatherette seats, black instrument panel, and even the enamel on the metal parts is also painted black. The only thing that changes the picture is the multi-colored arrows of the tachometer and speedometer, which somehow decorate the interior. Otherwise, the new car is a modernized copy of the Soviet hard worker, called “ZIL-131”.
Dump truck ZIL-433180 and its technical characteristics
The main features of the new product lie under the hood. The car is initially equipped with a modern Minsk-made turbodiesel engine “MMZ D 260.11”, which meets the Euro-2 environmental standard. The unit has considerable power (178 horsepower) and a torque of 708 N/m. Such a truck is capable of lifting loads weighing up to 8 tons, while its Soviet counterpart ZIL-130 dump truck (diesel) lifted only 5 tons of bulk materials. This is really great progress for the company, especially since the wheel formula of the new product remains the same - 4x2.
Despite the fact that, according to the passport data, the new product consumes about 22 liters of diesel fuel per hundred kilometers, many drivers claim that the real fuel consumption is approximately 19 liters. This makes the truck even more attractive in terms of profitability.
Types and demand for ZIL dump truck
Today, several modifications of this truck are mass-produced. This can be an onboard vehicle, a chassis (can be equipped with an isothermal van, a refrigeration unit, a dump body or converted into a garbage truck) of models 433182 and 433180, as well as another ZIL dump truck of the 494582 series. If you look at the sales statistics, you can see that the truck is in stable demand. The only catch is the small scale of production, so you can’t see it even in Russia often, or at least less often than the 4331st ZIL.

The engine is paired with a 9-speed gearbox. Mechanical, three-way, with planetary gearbox-multiplier. Synchronizers - in all gears except first. Gearbox ratios: 1st – 11.4; 2nd – 8.26; 3rd – 6.10; 4th – 4.52; 5th – 3.33; 6th – 2.48; 7th – 1.83; 8th – 1.355; 9th – 1.00; reverse - 8.00.
Clutch - friction, dry, single-disk, with peripherally located pressure springs. The drive of the clutch release mechanism is hydraulic, with a pneumohydraulic booster.
The drive axles of the ZIL 4520 are single-stage, hypoid, with a straight intermediate axle and a center differential. The gear ratio is 5.29 (6.33 is also possible). Interwheel and center differentials are gear-type, conical, with four satellites. The center differential lock is pneumatically driven. Cardan drive – 2 cardan drives for the middle and 1 rear axle. Splined connections in the drives of the middle and rear axles. Intermediate support in the middle axle drive. 5 hinges on needle bearings.
MMZ-4520
The ZIL-MMZ-4520 dump truck is very popular among Moscow builders and utility workers, as well as the MAZ-5551. When clearing snow, doing road construction and repair work, these two trucks can often be seen side by side. Unlike the two-axle MAZ, the Mytishchi dump truck has a different wheel arrangement - 6x4, i.e. three-axe. And the carrying capacity of the vehicles is the same - 10 tons. The second important difference is that while we took the MAZ practically “off the assembly line,” the Mytishchi machine came to us during operational tests and, accordingly, managed to say goodbye to factory defects and acquire a “medium-running” condition.
A car with such a dump body looks nice. The ZIL “kapotnik” generally suits the construction environment, be it a mixer, a crane, an excavator or, as in our case, a dump truck. You probably noticed that the ZIL chassis of the 133rd series, 43rd and 44th, 53rd and 54th, even ZIL-630900 look, to put it mildly, unsightly (except for “Bulls” and all-terrain vehicles with a 6x6 wheel arrangement). But as soon as the chassis is equipped with building superstructures, it’s a completely different matter: the car receives a design that matches its purpose. A sort of “Magirus” only smaller.
You can’t deny the “agility” of the Mytishchi dump truck either: on a road 5 meters wide, it turns around in three moves. Of course, such maneuverability is facilitated by the Zilov power steering, but for the operation of the car in urban conditions or a quarry this is an important fact. Regarding the steering column and steering wheel, we can say that they are standard, Zilov, like everything else, since Mytishchi uses a standard three-axle chassis from the Moscow Automobile Plant.
The dump truck being tested is equipped with an 8-cylinder V-shaped diesel engine ZIL-645 without turbocharging with a power of 185 hp. and a manual 9-speed gearbox. In general, standard. And the technical specifications indicate a standard maximum speed of 85 km/h. And this is where the factory data and test results stopped merging. The tested ZIL-MMZ-4520 dump truck showed a maximum speed with a total weight of only 80.9 km/h. Yes, even in running order – 81.4 km/h.
The discrepancy with the official data is explained simply: cars with turbodiesel are equipped with drive axle gearboxes with a gear ratio of 5.12, their speed limit corresponds to the official standard. But since everything in our car was standard, including the engine, the main gear was installed with more traction - with a gear ratio of 6.33. This fact influenced the decrease in speed parameters. But the towing capacity has increased: you can carry more than 7 cubic meters, but there is no need, since this does not lead to good. Many of our drivers are guilty of overloading, although they know very well that “you can’t earn all the money.”
A negative reaction was caused by the tailgate lock, which must be opened manually, especially when leaving the cab. This must be understood so that the driver does not experience physical inactivity. For a more complete picture of the car, we supplement real test data with computer test results. In principle, the MVC program with which we “rolled” the car allows us to simulate exactly the real car that worked at the test site, but we did not do this. Therefore, the “calculated data” corresponds to a somewhat idealized, absolutely serviceable machine. We did this so that the reader could judge the relationship between the average operating and “passport” condition of the car.
Note that the tested car has some inaccuracy in setting up the fuel equipment. But in general, the ZIL-MMZ-4520 left a very good impression. In any case, city utility workers and builders can understand: good maneuverability, 7 cubic meters of useful volume, quite acceptable fuel consumption, and if we add to this the relative cheapness of maintenance and spare parts, then we get a profitable car.

Design features. Closest relatives – ZIL-4514, ZIL-4516
The basis of the ZIL 4520 dump truck is the base chassis ZIL-133D42 produced by the capital's Likhachev Automobile Plant. This three-axle chassis was originally intended specifically for the ZIL-4514 construction dump truck. This model was put into production in 1993. Cargo dump truck ZIL-4514 – Neftekamsk dump truck plant, absolutely similar to the one installed on three-axle KamAZ-55111 dump trucks. ZIL-4514 dump trucks were produced from 1993 to 1997, and cargo platforms were installed on the ZIL-133D42 chassis not only by the Neftekamsk plant, but also by the Orsk tractor trailer plant (although the latter, of course, produced much fewer such vehicles).
Recognizable KamAZ body on ZIL 4514
Another manufacturer of dump truck platforms (metal body and hydraulic tipping device for unloading the body) - Mytishchi Machine-Building Plant - also began installing its own version of a dump truck on the ZIL-133D42 chassis, in the same 1993. The result is a new version of the universal industrial construction dump truck - ZIL-MMZ-4520. The Mytishchi body with a rounded “trough-shaped” lower part is significantly different from the NefAZ one - bucket-shaped, angular.
Mytishchi version: ZIL 4520.
The loading platform of the ZIL-MMZ-4520 dump truck was specially made with these bevels on the side sides to prevent sticking of the transported wet bulk cargo. Control of the hydraulic tipping device: activation of the power take-off and pump is remote, electro-pneumatic from the driver’s cabin; The hydraulic distributor is activated manually from the driver's cab.
An agricultural dump truck was also developed on the ZIL-133D42 base chassis: ZIL-MMZ-4516. This version of the ZIL three-axle dump truck received a loading platform with the ability to unload on the western side. It was designed for transportation and quick unloading of grain and other agricultural cargo along public roads, including unpaved roads and in field conditions. The configuration of this vehicle included the installation of an awning on the body to ensure the safety of the cargo.

Dump truck ZIL.
The ZIL dump truck is a self-unloading vehicle that is needed to transport all kinds of materials. This unloading method saves not only time, but also money. ZIL 45085 dump trucks have rear unloading. They are designed for transporting bulk and bulk cargo. They are used in civil and industrial construction. The truck platform on the side sides is made with bevels, so the transported cargo never sticks. Hydraulic tipping is controlled remotely; the driver turns on the power take-off directly from the cab. The tailgate of the ZIL 45085 dump truck tips over on lower and upper hinges. The middle side has a protective canopy that protects the cabin from contamination. The bottom and side of the platform have rubber, easily removable seals that protect the cargo from loss. Many people buy ZIL 130 dump trucks to make money from them. Private cab drivers value good maneuverability, low cost and high performance. They are easy to repair anywhere in our country, because there are no problems with purchasing spare parts. Every experienced driver knows what's broken in the truck and how to fix it.
Helpful information.
ZIL is the oldest domestic manufacturer and supplier of trucks. More than one decade
The plant supplies Russia and abroad with its reliable and powerful machines that are easy to operate. These trucks lift about six tons, which is why they are very popular in agriculture and construction. ZIL 130 dump trucks are inexpensive, so they are in great demand.
In Soviet times, dump trucks that were unloaded on three sides were classified as agricultural. If the truck only tipped backwards, then it was most in demand in the construction industry. But these were engineering developments that were implemented somewhat differently in life. For example, trucks with three-sided unloading were more in demand at construction sites, and with the rear - in agriculture. Private traders work everywhere, they don’t care what they transport, as long as they pay the money. ZIL 130 onboard dump trucks are distinguished by a long overhang.
A little history.
Previously, ZIL trucks were made only in Mytishchi, but today the main supplier is the Smolensk Automotive Aggregate Plant. In Soviet times, several tens of thousands of trucks were produced per year; today the plant also produces other special equipment, because the market demands it.
ZIL machines are conventionally divided into agricultural and construction; in fact, everyone uses them where they see fit, for example, in public utilities. The ZIL-SAAZ-3501 truck on the Bychka chassis is equipped with a body with a unified platform. The Smolensky Bychok is unloaded only backwards, so its Mytishchi counterpart is more in demand among builders and utility workers.
The ZIL dump truck is a reliable assistant; it is able to go where other trucks will never go. ZIL 130 dump trucks are especially in demand. They are spacious and have good performance characteristics. Today, the production of dump trucks takes place in the branch
Mytishchi plant in Vyshny Volochyok. In Mytishchi they no longer make ZIL 130 dump trucks. Today, only subway cars are manufactured here.
Today, the world of trucks is rich and diverse. Organizations can choose the best option for their work. There are expensive units, and there are cheap ones. There are miniature assistants, and there are huge career giants, without whom it is impossible to imagine mining. Machines are selected depending on the needs of entrepreneurs.

ZIL-45085 - a reliable Russian dump truck for construction sites
Modern automobile portals, on which users place advertisements for the sale of cars and trucks, are replete with offers to purchase ZIL cars. Unpretentious and reliable in operation, they have earned popular love and respect. Particularly popular is the ZIL-45085 model, which is a small dump truck. Such a car is indispensable at a construction site.
Foreign analogues are several times more expensive. Therefore, the ZIL truck continues to be in demand. And even battered specimens quickly find their buyers on the secondary market.
Technical characteristics of ZIL-45085
The construction dump truck model was created on the basis of the chassis of another truck. ZIL-494560 was taken as the basis. Therefore, most of the characteristics of the two cars are identical.
Dimensions
- height: 281 cm;
- length: 637 cm;
- width: 242 cm.
The car has straight sides, the lower corners of which are beveled. This technical solution makes it possible to prevent cargo from sticking during unloading operations. The use of straight sides allows you to save free space inside the body. The ZIL MMZ-45085 car has a relatively low weight - 11.2 tons. The light weight of the body helps maintain the traction qualities of the truck. Hinges are used to open the tailgate. They are fixed in the upper and lower positions. The middle side is equipped with a canopy that protects the cabin.
Truck parameters:
- wheel formula 4×2;
- the chassis base is taken from the ZIL-494560 model;
- load capacity up to 5.5 tons;
- the platform holds a cargo volume of 3.8 cubic meters;
- rear unloading direction;
- gasoline carburetor engine 6.0 l., 150 hp;
- turning radius is 6.9 m;
- the fuel tank holds 170 liters of gasoline;
- standard fuel consumption is 25.8 liters. when driving at an average speed of 60 km/h.
Dump truck capabilities
The car is widely used in the construction industry. The popularity of the model is largely due to its low cost. The machine was developed and manufactured in Russia, so there are no problems finding spare parts. The parts themselves are also cheap. In most cases, repairs are carried out directly by the driver.
Using the ZIL-45085 vehicle, construction bulk or bulk cargo and some other materials are often delivered. The dump truck is suitable for quickly removing excess soil and debris from the construction site. The machine is equipped with a tilting body, which allows you to significantly save time during unloading operations.
Additional equipment
The dump truck engine is not very economical. The consumption rate, which in the ZIL-45085 car is almost 26 liters per 100 km, alarms many potential buyers who want to purchase a car. To save on fuel, the truck can be equipped with gas equipment. Methane is significantly cheaper than gasoline. Therefore, additional investments in equipment pay off in 5-6 months with regular use of the vehicle.
What other additional devices can be installed on the ZIL-45085? The dump truck can be equipped with extension sides. With their help, the cargo platform of the car can be expanded. This feature can be useful if there is a need to transport not too heavy, but bulky cargo.
The hydraulic system is responsible for raising and lowering the body. The pump and power take-off are controlled remotely. The remote control with the corresponding elements is located in the cockpit. While behind the wheel, the driver can also turn on the hydraulic valve, which is controlled manually.
Truck device
Under the designation 4502, rear-wheel drive cars with a 4x2 wheel arrangement were produced. They were equipped with a metal cabin on a frame structure and a body with a hydraulic tipping device.
A ZIL-508.10 carburetor engine was installed under the hood. The braking system is represented by drum brakes on all wheels. The steering wheel is equipped with a hydraulic booster. The suspension is dependent, the front is a beam, the rear is leaf spring.
The technical characteristics of the ZIL MMZ 4502 made it a universal vehicle for transporting a variety of cargo in urban and suburban environments. Today it can still be found at country construction sites, on agricultural farms, and among private entrepreneurs. The model has long been outdated, but the low price still attracts buyers, especially those who are interested in the Soviet automobile industry and are willing to put up with frequent repairs and a low level of comfort.
