The KSF-2.1 segment mower is designed for mounting on mini-tractors and walk-behind tractors. This device is designed to mechanize hay harvesting processes, getting its name due to the special type of grass-cutting elements - in the form of large sharp triangles. Also called "segmental finger".
Rotary mower for walk-behind tractor - design description
A rotary mower for a walk-behind tractor is a type of attachment whose function is to mow weeds and bushes in meadows and fields.
This device successfully copes with the removal of grass in large areas, the soil of which is not treated with herbicides. Often, a rotary mower is also called a disc mower - this is due to the principle of its operation and design features. Depending on the method of connection to the walk-behind tractor, such a mower can be semi-mounted, mounted or trailed. Also, attachments of this type are classified according to the location of the cutting elements in relation to the walk-behind tractor used. According to this factor, rotary mowers with front, rear and side cutting blades are distinguished.
During operation on the site, the rotary mower is driven by the transmission and wheels of the walk-behind tractor. The design of such attachments is extremely simple - one or more cutting discs together with a support wheel are fixed to the frame. As soon as the support wheel begins to move, the disks that mow the vegetation begin to rotate along with it.
The areas of application of the rotary mower are quite extensive - it can be used in pastures, meadows and large vegetable gardens. At the same time, the more disks included in the design of the equipment, the larger the processed area can be.
Application area
They are used in various geographical areas in any climate, except semi-desert and desert areas.
The use of a mechanized process speeds up hay harvesting by 7–8 times.
The tractor segment mower is also successfully used for clearing firebreaks and weeds in areas between trees. You can use it to mow the lawn by attaching it to a walk-behind tractor.
The unit cuts the grass at the root, without fear of wetlands and a large number of roots.
Device
The KSF-2.1 mower consists of the following main structural elements and parts:
- The frame on which the rest of the working tools are based and has a mount for attaching to the tractor hitch.
- The traction rod is designed to connect the working cutting tool to the frame of the device.
- Cutting the blade with sharp segments (fingers).
During operation of the mower, the blade with knives is driven in a reciprocating motion parallel to the surface of the ground. In this case, the stems that get in the way fall onto the stationary segments of the canvas and are immediately pressed tightly against them, moving the blades. Cutting the grass is similar to the work of regular scissors, leaving a strip of finished mowing. Scheme of the KSF-2.1 mower 1. Cutter head; 2. Guide knife heads; 3. Knife head cover; 4. House shoes; 5. Rod tap; 6. Outdoor shoes; 7. Field board; 8. Finger; 9. Insertion finger; 10. A piece of knife; 11. Clip knife; 12. Knife back; 13. Friction plate.
Cost of equipment
You can, of course, buy new equipment, the average cost of which in Russia is about 55,000 rubles, but purchasing used equipment is not the worst option. The price of used mowers ranges from 35,000 rubles. and higher. Used equipment is cheaper, there are no problems with purchasing spare parts, and it works no worse than new.
Purchasing a single-bar mower KSF 2.1-B is economically profitable due to its efficiency, low cost and ease of maintenance.

Mounted mower KSF-2.1 - Maintenance
A segment mower, just like a tractor, requires periodic maintenance. The following types of maintenance are performed while the mower is in use: maintenance performed every shift or maintenance performed every shift (ETO), maintenance number 1 (MOT-1), maintenance number 2 (MOT-2), and maintenance performed in end of the work season (TO-S).
The need for shift maintenance occurs every 8-10 hours of operation of the mower. Maintenance number 1 should be carried out after 60 hours, and maintenance number 2 should be carried out after 120 hours of operation. After the harvesting season ends, seasonal maintenance is required. In terms of time, ETO takes 15-20 minutes, on average it takes at least 1 -1.5 hours to carry out TO-1 and TO-2, and at least 1.5 - 2 hours to carry out TO-S.
During shift maintenance, the following types of work are performed. First, it is necessary to clean the components of the mower from dirt, dust and plant debris. You can use a rag or brush for this. Next, you should make sure that the pins of the cutting device, the transport rod and the connecting rod are securely fastened. Threaded connections must be tightened tightly with a wrench. Then, you need to visually check the technical condition of the knife and, if necessary, either sharpen it on a sharpening machine or replace the failed knife with a new one. The next step involves checking the gaps between the liners and segments, and, if necessary, adjusting them. The final stage of shift maintenance is the lubrication of all components of the cutting device (friction plates, knife clamps, front and rear guides of the cutter head), connecting rod bearings and driveline bearings. At this stage, the tools used are a liquid lubricant and a lever-plunger syringe.
During TO-1, first all work carried out at the stage of shift maintenance is carried out, then the pressure of the mower shoes on the soil is checked. The pressure of the inner shoe on the soil should be at least 200 - 300 N (20-30 kg). The pressure on the inner shoe is adjusted by tensioning the spring using a bolt. On the outer shoe the pressure should be 100-200 N (10-20 kg).
Adjusting the pressure of the mower shoes on the soil
The pressure is adjusted by rotating the lever in one direction or another, after removing the pin. Next, you need to tighten the V-belts. The next step is to check and, if necessary, adjust the mower cutting device in relation to the connecting rod and the tractor. In the working position, the line running along the axis of the connecting rod should be parallel to the center line of the knife when viewed from above. The relative position of the connecting rod and the knife can be adjusted using the eccentric bushing (small eccentric K-2010), located in the hinge of the inner shoe. To do this, you need to: unscrew the bolt, turn the sleeve (eccentric) in the desired direction and install the bolt in another hole.
Adjusting the angle of inclination and position relative to the connecting rod
Adjustment of the inclination of the cutting device is achieved by means of a grooved washer, by moving it to different reefs within the elongated hole, you can adjust the angle of inclination of the drawbar hinge, which is connected to the cutting device. When the grass is lying down, it is recommended to tilt the cutting device slightly forward so that the fingers of the cutting device go deeper into the grass and lift it. When working on uneven ground, it is recommended to tilt the cutting device slightly back to avoid the mower's tines colliding with the ground and allowing stones to pass through from below. The final maintenance step #1 is to lubricate the drawbar axle, front arm axle, vertical arm axle, and thrust arm axle using a grease fitting and a lever-plunger syringe.
During maintenance number 2, perform all stages of shift and first maintenance, and also lubricate the eccentric pin bearings using a lever-plunger syringe. During seasonal maintenance, all regular maintenance operations are performed, then the frame shaft bearings and the drive pulley shaft bearings are lubricated. At the final stage of seasonal maintenance, the mower is prepared for long-term storage in accordance with the recommendations.
Device Aspects
This tool is mounted and attached directly to the tractor itself, which moves it. This type of tool has a grip, the width of which in most models is 2.1 meters. It also includes a special finger cutting apparatus. If you prefer a unit of a more compact size, then we suggest that you familiarize yourself with a mechanical manual lawn mower, which is several times smaller than this tool and can be used without a tractor.
The mower itself is attached to the frame itself, which is located on the tractor, by using a traction rod, after which it is secured using the so-called truss to the tractor itself.
The mower also has so-called “fingers”. This is the name given to the cutting direction plates, which actually perform the main purpose of the device.
Kzn device
As for the knife, which is located on the device, it consists of a specific strip, a head, and also peculiar segments. It is worth noting that its movement is reciprocal in nature, that is, directly from the PTO of the tractor itself it passes through the drive pulley box, cardan transmission, eccentric pulley, as well as a V-belt transmission, after which it returns along the same axis.
Before you begin to operate the mower, the cord is pulled with the help of a cutting apparatus, namely its finger toes. After this, a special gasket is placed between the fingers and the timber. Do this until a solid straight line is formed. However, due to its fixed position above the soil, the unit cannot be used on landscapes of different heights, so for work on more complex areas it is better to choose special mowers for tall grass and uneven areas.
Multifunctionality of devices and their difference from gasoline mowers
It is worth noting that modern versions of these devices are aimed not only at working with horses. That is, today you can use horse-drawn mowers on walk-behind tractors. By giving preference to this option, a person will save himself from unnecessary worries and will not depend on the animal’s mood, its performance, etc.
As horse-drawn walk-behind mowers become increasingly popular among mini-tractor owners, their durability and performance are constantly tested and improved. But such options are relevant for those who have a walk-behind tractor and do not want to spend money on an additional purchase of a gasoline mower.

What malfunctions may occur during operation and how can they be corrected?
In some cases, a segmented tine mower may not operate correctly. There are these types of faults:
1. Cuttings accumulate in front of the inner shoe. To eliminate this flaw, it is necessary to bend the upper part of the bar up and to the left, and the second part to the right.
2. The cutting mechanism becomes clogged with plants. In order to eliminate this problem, you should adjust the gaps between the segments. They may also be dull and require sharpening.
3. The knife is knocking in the cutting apparatus. Try to reduce the distance between the knife head and the upper guides.
4. The eccentric pulley knocks in the frame holes. You can fix the problem by tightening the locknut and the axle nut.
In principle, you can debug these faults manually yourself. More serious problems should be repaired by a repair shop.
Advantages of the device
Segment mowers have the following advantages:
1. Ability to work on uneven ground surfaces. This is achieved due to the fact that the blade can deviate from the tractor by 20%.
2. A segment mower for a tractor is capable of processing a fairly large area.
3. Easy to attach and use. However, you need to install the device on a walk-behind tractor or walk-behind tractor correctly. Otherwise it will be ineffective.
4. Affordable price. Naturally, for private use the mower will be somewhat expensive. But it will not cause serious financial damage to a small farm.
5. Possibility of adjusting the device. You can do this manually yourself.
6. Reliability of design and durability. Mechanical units break down quite rarely.
7. Cost-effective. The device does not need to be filled with gasoline or connected to an electrical outlet, which significantly reduces the cost of its use.

The lineup
A segment mower must be suitable for a specific tractor model, because the operating mechanism of tractors differs significantly. This applies not only to the size of the tractor, but also to its brand. There are quite a few models of mowers, among them:
- Inexpensive devices made in China - they are especially loved by summer residents and gardeners for their compact size. Soviet tractors with appropriate traction are quite suitable for them.
- Model for a tractor produced by the Russian company Bobruiskagromash. It works with a tractor equipped with a rotation transmission unit from the engine to the attachment. Its operation is activated by the shaft of this unit.
- The three-beam KP-F-6 is distinguished by its large dimensions. It is most often used by farmers in the fields. Mowing is done in even strips, with the grass neatly laid out in rows, which makes it much easier to collect.
- Segment mowers KS-F-2.1 are suitable for mini-tractors and walk-behind tractors. They are produced in Lyubertsy.
Features of operation
To install the equipment on a tractor, it is fixed using longitudinal rods of the tractor hitch and the distance from the ground to their rear ends is set to about 400 mm and the lifting height is not higher than 650 mm. This is necessary to prevent lateral displacement of the frame relative to the central axis of the tractor.
When performing mowing work with a single-bar, fingerless, two-blade mower, model KSF 2.1-B, you should adhere to special rules, which will make its operation longer and safer:
- Only persons who have studied its design and operating instructions are allowed to service the equipment;
- cutting elements must be covered with a protective casing;
- before starting, you must make sure that there are no people behind and in front of the equipment;
- stopping the power unit is carried out while simultaneously turning off the power take-off shaft;
- attaching and removing equipment, as well as its adjustment and maintenance, especially knives, is carried out only when the equipment is finally stopped;
- moving equipment to a new location is carried out only with a protective casing on the working unit.
In this model of mowing equipment, one cutting element is stationary, and the second is movable. The mower is able to cut dead wood, anthills and even low hummocks. The video shows the mowing equipment in action.
Important! It is believed that KSF 2.1-B is best installed on power units such as MTZ-80, 82 and YuMZ, as well as T-25 and T-40

In addition to the use of this segment mower model in any weather and in various climatic zones, this equipment has several important advantages that are highly valued by most farmers.
Advantages:
- high efficiency, which is achieved thanks to relatively high-speed work and a comfortable processing width - over 2 m;
- the small weight of the attachment makes it possible to use it on small traction units;
- the low energy consumption of the two-blade mower KSF 2.1-B allows significant savings in money and does not increase the cost of hay while reducing the volume of hay harvesting;
- easy control of equipment without using hydraulics allows you to do without unnecessary personnel, except for the tractor driver;
- relatively low cost of equipment and spare parts. Efficient operation of the unit at high speeds and long service life.
Perhaps one drawback of the KSF mower is the equipment’s demands on the cleanliness of the mowed areas, since the entry of foreign objects into the working cutting units can damage the unit.

Rotary mower KRN-2.1
This division is produced not by one company, but by several. For example, located in the city of Lyubertsy, Moscow region, it produces equipment from Belarusian spare parts. Or PKF Rakita, located in Kirov. We also call Smolenskspetech (city of Smolensk) and Kokhanovsky excavator plant (Belarus). Mowers from Tver produced are especially popular. They are considered the most durable and reliable.
The device is equipped with four rapidly rotating rotors, arranged in pairs opposite each other. At the ends they have eight sharp knives (two on each rotor), mounted on hinges. They cut grass (even stale and shredded ones) as clean as a razor.
It should be noted that today the KRN-2.1 mounted mower model is practically not produced in its pure form. Typically, the letter "A" (standard version) or "B" is added at the end of the marking. In the latter case, the design changes slightly - instead of two pulleys of different diameters, identical ones are used. Thanks to this, the tractor's power take-off speed increases to 1000 rpm.
Business date, meeting
The machine is suitable for working with traction devices of class from 0.9 to 1.4 - it is attached to them from the rear using a system installed on the tractor. After that, you can start mowing - by the way, one person is enough for maintenance. The mower can easily cut abundantly grown grass, small bushes and weeds, remove weeds, clear pastures or hayfields. In this case, uneven terrain or slight slope of the soil will not be an obstacle.
It is useful and practical to use the KRN-2.1 model, where the yield exceeds fifteen tons per hectare. It copes best with thick grass, moving deftly and confidently. The machine works in any climate. Photo of rotary mower KRN-2.1
Advantages and disadvantages
Advantages:
- A perfectly uniform cut obtained from the blade of fast-moving blade knives.
- The bevel is laid evenly, making it easier to quickly remove the stacks and transport the hay.
- The presence of a protective mechanism (fuse) to protect the blade from obstacles along the way. When he shoots, the knives dodge - the angle can be up to forty-five degrees.
- All working elements are closed in a sealed housing, and the gearbox is reinforced with a casing.
- Ability to work on slopes and difficult terrain, as well as in all weather conditions.
- Not very high cost, especially compared to foreign analogues.
Flaws:
- Too slow, the grass can wrap around the rotor nuts and the anthill can hang on the canvas. This does not happen with increasing speed.
- The performance of rotary models is slightly lower than that of segmented models.
- Imported (Polish) mowers are considered to be of higher quality and reliability, and they also clean the field better. However, on the other hand, after passing through the KRN-2.1 mower, the grass grows faster again.
