Tell me how to install the petal clutch disc on the MTZ-80. Which side is facing the flywheel, the wide side or the narrow side?

Clutch replacement

Repair of this part of the agricultural machine may be required in the event of breakdown or wear of its component parts. During active operation of the tractor, various problems arise:

  • failure of transmission elements (grinding of linings on the driven disk, wear of bearings, etc.);
  • lack of full torque;
  • contact of lubricants with dry discs;
  • increasing or decreasing the pedal radius.

If brackets, bearings and other parts are worn, they must be replaced. If there is no free play in the pedal, it must be adjusted correctly. Installation of a new coupling is carried out after removing the old part. You can assemble/disassemble the system elements yourself, but it is better to entrust this important task to professionals.

Settings

If the technical parameters deviate from the specified norm, it is necessary to adjust the clutch assembly feet. To do this, follow several steps:

  1. Remove the rod connecting the pedal and the friction clutch lever. To do this, remove the connecting piece located on the assembly of this device.
  2. Lower the pedal all the way down using the adjuster screw.
  3. Turn the control element counterclockwise.
  4. Connect the holes of the linkage and the clutch lever.
  5. Turn the screw 4.5–5 turns. This will reduce cravings.
  6. Check the condition of the pedals by measuring the travel on the stop pad.

Attention! Recently, the design of MTZ tractors has changed somewhat. The gap between the support body and the levers should be 11.5–12.5 mm. In this case, installation and adjustment of the clutch mechanism is carried out according to the algorithm described above.

To set up the system, you need to tighten the mounting bolts on the bottom bracket located on the return spring.

Adjusting the clutch pedal free play

After installing the gearbox, the release bearing should not rest against the clutch tabs. It is necessary to set the gap between the paws and the release bearing. To do this, you need to remove the cotter pin from the clutch fork shaft lever. Support the lever so that the release bearing is close to the clutch pads. Then you need to unscrew the fork on the rod so that the cotter pin falls into place. In this case, there should be no gap between the paws and the release lever. Then remove the cotter pin again. And unscrew the fork 5-6 turns. And lock the fork with a nut. The resulting gap will be the distance from the clutch release plate to the clutch feet.

As the tractor operates, the clutch disc linings wear off. The disc becomes thinner. At the same time, the legs of the clutch basket extend. The distance between them and the release bearing is reduced. The gap disappears. The paws begin to put pressure on the release lever. The clutch is slipping. Therefore, it is periodically necessary to re-establish the gap between the release lever and the paws. Until the release bearing cup hits the gearbox and can no longer be adjusted. As soon as this happens, the clutch disc should be replaced.

Finally, this is the most unpleasant news when the clutch begins to slip, and the lever can no longer be adjusted. But there is nothing to be done and we have to halve the tractor once again.

How to change paws without rolling out the tractor

If you need to change the clutch feet, the working surface of which has worn out by more than 2.5 mm, without rolling out the tractor, you will need:

  • new paws;
  • file;
  • screwdriver with short handle;
  • a head stand for convenience (you can use a wooden block of suitable size).

Changing the paws without rolling out the tractor is quite simple, but it requires skill. First, remove the cover of the lower housing hatch by unscrewing the 3 bolts.

How to change the paws: press out the faulty levers and remove them by unscrewing the adjusting bolts; Use a file to slightly correct the unevenness of the contact surface of the new paws; install them and tighten the bolts; make adjustments and tighten the nuts; check the serviceability and close the lower hatch cover.

Let's now consider how to set the paws with a barbell.

This technique is used when the tractor was rolled out for repair.

In order to correctly align the tabs with the bar after replacing the release bearing, tabs or return springs, it is necessary to measure the distance from the plane of the PTO drive hub to the working plane of the basket clutch lever-claw. The gap should be 15 millimeters (±1 mm). Having tightened the adjusting bolts, we bring the contact surface of the clutch feet onto one plane and tighten the locknuts.

The next stage of repair of the MTZ-82 clutch involves moving the pedal to the initial position. To do this, you need to move the pedal to the full stroke length. If sagging is observed, you need to unscrew the bolts by turning the bracket clockwise.

Adjustment Tips

Additional tips and videos with visual examples will help you correctly adjust the clutch, adjust the clearance of the basket legs and generally maintain the mechanism in good condition for as long as possible.

  • If repairs are required to replace spare parts, choose high-quality components;
  • The clutch paws should be hardened; they will last you 2 times longer than unhardened ones;
  • File the working surface of the new legs with a file before installation, as unevenness can often be found on them;
  • Change the feet of the MTZ-80 clutch basket when the wear reaches 2.5 millimeters.
