The range of these medium-duty trucks appeared in Italy in 1991. To date, more than half a million Iveco Evrocargo vehicles have been produced, and today they can be found on the roads in 38 countries around the world. In this article we will introduce the reader to the most popular representative of this model range - Iveco Evrocargo 75E18 (Iveco Eurocargo).

Iveco EuroCargo

Iveco EuroCargo is a family of medium-duty trucks produced by the Italian brand Iveco SpA. The series is one of the most widespread and has about 300 basic variations. It includes models with a gross weight of 7000-18000 kg. In the brand’s line, Iveco Eurocargo trucks are located between the medium Iveco Daly and the heavy Iveco Stralis. At the same time, the family itself is conventionally divided into light and heavy subgroups used to perform various tasks. Production of the truck began in 1991 and continues currently. A year after the premiere, the model received the title “Truck of the Year.” In Russia, the demand for Iveco EuroCargo has always remained consistently high due to the excellent reliability and performance of this vehicle.

General information

The history of Iveco Eurocargo includes several stages. The car premiered in 1991. In the early 1900s, the company decided to replace the obsolete Iveco TurboZeta truck with a completely new version. After lengthy development, a very interesting model was presented, different from most medium-duty vehicles of that time. The Iveco EuroCargo is based on a modular design that allows you to assemble a specific modification for the specific needs of the consumer. Soon the number of different basic modifications of the model grew to 300.

The appearance of the truck was quite unique. The cabover cab looked very brutal and monolithic due to the geometrically correct radiator grille merging with the cabin, a large bumper with built-in headlights and large mirrors. The brand logo also appeared on the front. The design of the car also turned out to be quite successful.

All this contributed to the fact that Iveco Eurocargo has gained great popularity throughout the world. In 1992, the model was recognized as “Truck of the Year”.

In 2000, the car underwent minor changes. The Tector engine has appeared in the line of power plants - a development by specialists from the European Engine Alliance (a joint venture of New Holland, Iveco and Cummins).

In 2003, the Italian brand introduced the restyled Iveco EuroCargo. The design of the car was developed jointly with the Bertone studio, which affected the appearance of the model. It turned out to be even more memorable than that of the first generation. The truck has lost its former brutality, but has turned out even more attractive. The bumper became smaller and acquired additional niches for foglights. The radiator grille and brand logo have been enlarged. But the main innovation was the air intakes along the edges of the cabin, forming a kind of “smile” with the radiator grille.

In 2006, SCR system units began to be installed on models of the family, ensuring compliance with Euro-4 and Euro-5 standards.

In 2008, Iveco Eurocargo changed again. The car retained the features of its predecessor, but received a more aggressive appearance. The model's cabin acquired a new radiator grille, the geometric shapes of which flowed into a bumper that increased in size. The air intakes that appeared in the second generation became larger. The cabin itself turned out to be more textured and gave the truck the feeling of a “monster on wheels.”

In 2015, the fourth generation of Iveco Eurocargo premiered. The car has received significant changes. The cabin design retained its corporate features: the cabin once again received a “smile” formed by the radiator grille and air intakes, which provided additional attention to the brand logo. The bumper has additional steps that allow you to get close to the windshield. LED strips were installed in the new headlights. The cabin deflectors have also been updated and optimized for greater dynamics. The interior has changed slightly. The new engines ensure compliance with Euro-6 requirements thanks to the Hi-SCR system.

The Iveco EuroCargo III, which debuted in 2008, is currently offered on the Russian market.

This truck is ideal for any application thanks to its well-thought-out design, high performance and maneuverability. In the segment of medium-duty vehicles, Iveco Eurocargo has practically no competitors, and the secret of the model’s success lies in its versatility. The car is easy to drive and perfectly adapted to moving along busy streets. At the same time, it shows excellent performance in difficult conditions or long journeys. The model copes with various tasks: from the distribution of goods to work in the housing and communal services sector and from heavy movements on construction sites to the delivery of items along city streets. Iveco EuroCargo is a truck born to be reliable, durable and cost-effective.

Serious changes in the design of the machine occurred only in 2000. The truck received an updated Tector engine, created as part of a joint project of the European Engine Alliance, which included the brands New Holland, Iveco and Cummins.

In 2003, the premiere of the new generation of Iveco Eurocargo took place. The manufacturer developed the exterior of the car together with the famous Italian studio Bertone. In total, about 300 thousand new models were produced.

In 2006, they began installing the SCR system on the truck, which ensured compliance with Euro-4 and Euro-5 requirements.

In 2008, the third generation of the model was released, which received changes in design and an improved cabin. Its production continues to this day.

Now Iveco EuroCargo is the most popular series in the brand’s line-up. The model is in great demand on the European and Russian markets. A car with a different total weight feels good not only on smooth city roads, but also off-road (this statement is true for all-wheel drive modifications). The main difference between Iveco Eurocargo and Odnoklassniki is the wide range of cabins available for installation. They differ in the number of seats, height, the presence of sleeping shelves and internal dimensions. Their key feature is the material from which the panel and the front part of the cabin are made (pressed composite compound).

Iveco EuroCargo is used to transport medium weight cargo on intercity and urban routes. A huge number of configurations allows the consumer to choose the best option for themselves. At the same time, the entire Iveco Eurocargo family is distinguished by low fuel consumption, compactness and ease of operation, which attracts transport companies.

The manufacturer offers versions with a four-by-two, four-by-four and six-by-four wheel arrangement. The first option is intended for transportation within the city, the last two can be used for work on rough terrain and construction sites.

Engine

The Iveco Eurocargo family is equipped with 2 types of diesel power plants:

  1. Tector 4 series engines: displacement – 3.9 l, rated power – 160 or 180 hp, number of cylinders – 4.
  2. Tector 6 series engines: displacement – 5.9 l, rated power – 220, 250, 280 or 300 hp, number of cylinders – 6.

Due to new pistons used in the design, increased compression ratio and reconfigured turbines, the maximum torque of the engines increased by 8%. In addition, the Tector 4 and Tector 6 engines are equipped with a turbine with an intercooler and a Common Rail injection system. They have a similar layout: an aluminum block head and a viscous coupling in the cooling system.

The priority when developing Tector engines was not only high performance, but also low operating costs. The oil filter and oil are replaced here every 80,000 km, which significantly saves the owner’s money. Due to SCR technology and AdBlue reagents used in the engines, compliance with Euro-5 standards was ensured.

Device

The design of Iveco EuroCargo is based on the basic design for the Italian manufacturer, but has its own characteristics. The car chassis consists of longitudinal bars made of high-alloy steel, providing high strength. The surface of the wheelbase is as flat as possible and has no protrusions, which allows you to install bodies of various lengths and types on it. Thanks to this, the machine can be easily adapted to specific tasks. The truck is distinguished by high cross-country ability and, as standard, is characterized by a 4 by 2 wheel arrangement. However, all-wheel drive versions with center and cross-axle differential locks are optionally available.

For Iveco Eurocargo, several variations of the suspension design are offered:

  • pneumatic elements;
  • parabolic single leaf springs;
  • semi-elliptical multi-leaf springs.

The first type is equipped with an electronic ECAS system, which allows you to change the height of the frame if necessary. Disc brakes are installed on all wheels of the truck. On heavy modifications, a pneumatic brake drive is used, for light ones, a pneumohydraulic drive is used. Safety in the models of the Iveco EuroCargo family is given special attention. Heavy-duty versions are equipped with reinforced brake pads and discs, guaranteeing confident braking regardless of conditions. All modifications are more powerful than 180 hp. equipped with a motor brake. The service braking system includes traction control ASR and ABS. For models with pneumatic brakes, an ESP system is provided, which allows you to maintain the trajectory regardless of the nature of the road and conditions. ABS additionally integrates electronic brake calibration EBL, which allows you to adjust braking forces to maintain optimal traction on each wheel.

The cars are equipped with 9- or 6-speed manual or 6-speed robotic transmissions of the ZF brand. All versions of this series operate using synthetic oil (change every 300,000 km). Also offered is an Allison 5-speed automatic hydrodynamic transmission (oil change every 240,000 km). “Automatic” is installed exclusively on modifications weighing over 12,000 kg.

Iveco EuroCargo is offered with several types of cabins:

  • short (basic for 2 places without a sleeping compartment);
  • long (2-seater with sleeping compartment);
  • 4-door (7-seater version).

The basic version includes a dashboard (navigation is optional), a steel steering wheel, a center module and an adjustable steering column. Getting inside the cabin is quite easy thanks to the presence of wide steps. The salon itself provides maximum comfort.

Iveco Eurocargo is extremely simple to operate. The steering wheel turns smoothly and easily due to the presence of a hydraulic booster. The high seating position, large windshield and massive mirrors (2 main and 2 additional on each side) provide excellent visibility in all directions. The driver's seat is equipped with many settings and minimizes fatigue even on long trips.

Iveco EuroCargo is one of the most successful models of the Italian brand and an excellent assistant in any business.
