This is a six-cylinder, four-stroke turbocharged engine. The cylinders are arranged in a row, vertically. The working volume of this power unit is 7.146 liters; rated power - 355 horsepower (or 261 kilowatts). Motor torque at rated power – 1140 N.m; maximum torque – 1500 N.m. The nominal speed is 2200 rpm. The torque reserve factor is 30 percent.

The Deutz engine is equipped with a liquid cooling system and turbocharged injection. Characteristic features are two filters for cleaning diesel fuel, a combined lubrication system for the main components, and a special “Multi-cyclone” unit.

The German engine starts using an electric starter. For operation in harsh climatic conditions, a cold start system is provided. Diesel heating is optimized and occurs automatically. The built-in thermostat is responsible for setting the operation of the preheating system.

As befits a German-made engine, the Deutz diesel engine complies with the modern environmental standard “Stage III3A” and has a very moderate “appetite” for such a powerful engine. Specific fuel consumption is: at rated power – 211 grams per kilowatt/hour; at operating power – 240 (+/–5) grams per kilowatt/hour. Taking into account the spacious 650-liter fuel tank, the MTZ-3522 tractor has an impressive “power reserve” for continuous operation without refueling.
