MAZ-6303: technical characteristics

MAZ 5336 is an onboard vehicle or large-capacity chassis used for assembling various models by installing additional add-ons (dump body, tow truck, bus body, tank, loader crane and others). This series is widespread throughout the post-Soviet space and is considered one of the most successful in the line of the Minsk Automobile Plant.

All modifications of the MAZ 5336 have the advantages characteristic of Belarusian cars: practicality, reliability and low cost. The car is perfectly adapted to harsh winters and bad roads.

The history of production of MAZ 5336 goes back several decades. During this period, the car managed to win the trust of consumers and is considered the main “long-liver” of the Minsk Automobile Plant assembly line.

PURPOSE

MAZ 5336 was conceived as a flatbed truck designed to transport various types of cargo independently or as part of a road train. The model was supposed to be used on interregional, intercity roads and inside populated areas. However, the design of the vehicle turned out to be so successful that soon various equipment began to be mounted on it, and the scope of application of the MAZ 5336 expanded significantly. The line includes tank trucks, construction versions and manipulators. Special emergency vehicles, passenger buses and fire brigades based on the MAZ 5336 also appeared. The series has become truly universal, but the main area of ​​use remains the transportation of goods over medium and long distances.

Modifications

The initial version is a universal chassis, when used it is possible to install different types of equipment. For example, the body can be used with an open or closed awning side, as well as a tipper version. It is possible to mount a platform that allows you to transport tanks, a grain truck, and a crane. Each version of the created modification received its own unique index indicating the type of design:

  • MAZ-630326 - is a timber carrier;
  • MAZ-630308 – used for the purpose of transporting tank trucks;
  • MAZ-630305 – used for transporting goods in a closed cabin and an additionally connected trailer;
  • MAZ-630168 - a model used for transit transportation;
  • MAZ-630303 – designed for installation on the chassis of various mechanisms for road construction;
  • MAZ-6317 is an all-terrain version.

The above performance characteristics of different types of trucks represent conventional descriptions of the models.

STORY

In 1981, a global reconstruction began at the Minsk Automobile Plant, which lasted 7 years. During this period, the manufacturer completely revised the line of produced models. At the end of the 1980s, the company opened serial production of updated MAZ series, which received a modernized frame and braking system, an improved front axle, a modified interior and a redesigned front panel. The MAZ 5336 was also among the new families.

In the model range of the Minsk Automobile Plant, the car replaced the MAZ 5335, produced since 1977. The basic series, for obvious reasons, was noticeably outdated by the early 1980s and was in need of global modernization. At the same time, changes taking into account the importance of the family were worked out especially carefully. MAZ 5336 retained the advantages of its predecessor, but became more modern and functional.

MAZ 5336 was noticeably different from the MAZ 5335. The model received a soft suspension, more powerful units, a spacious cargo compartment and a modern cabin, which increased in size and became more comfortable. Noise and vibration insulation have been improved, the new series has become more economical and productive. Already in the basic version, the MAZ 5336 had a rich range of options, including a special sun visor. The new product finally succeeded in displacing its predecessor in 1990.

MAZ 5336 turned out to be a very successful product and existed for a long time. The model was modernized several times, but the changes were minor, which did not allow us to talk about the emergence of a new generation.

Main versions of the MAZ 5336 series:

  • MAZ 53361 is a flatbed truck with a total weight of 18 tons (4 by 2). As part of a road train, the weight can reach 40 tons. The car body is made in the format of a metal platform with a wooden floor, opening rear and side sides. The model is equipped with a cabin with a sleeping area. The power plant is a V-shaped 8-cylinder diesel engine with turbocharging (working volume - 17.2 liters, rated power - 360 hp). The car is equipped with a 9-speed transmission.
  • MAZ 53362 is an onboard truck with a total weight of 18 tons. The model assumes operation as part of a road train with a total weight of up to 38 tons. The car has similar parameters to the MAZ 53361 version, but is considered more economical. A YaMZ-238B turbocharged diesel unit is installed in the engine compartment. With a displacement of 14.866 liters, the engine has a power of 300 hp. The basic one is a 4-speed synchronized transmission with a range-shifter (total number of speeds – 8).
  • MAZ 53363 is a diesel onboard vehicle with a total weight of 18 tons. The weight of the road train is 38 tons. The model was launched into production in 1990. The body is made in the form of a metal platform and has opening sides (rear and side). MAZ 53363 is equipped with a V-shaped turbocharged engine YaMZ-238D with an all-mode speed controller and a fuel injection advance clutch. The unit has a working volume of 14.866 liters and a rated power of 330 hp. The model is equipped with the same transmission as the MAZ 53362 - a 4-speed gearbox with a range-shifter.
  • MAZ 533603-220 is an onboard modification designed for intracity, suburban and regional transportation. The model complies with the TIR system standards and is suitable for transit transportation as part of a road train weighing up to 36 tons. The machine is equipped with a YaMZ engine with a power of 250 hp.
  • MAZ 533605-220 is a two-axle onboard vehicle with a platform with an area of ​​14.5 sq.m. The model is equipped with a YaMZ unit with a power of 330 hp. The permissible weight of a road train is 44 tons.
  • MAZ 53366 is a two-axle flatbed version with a total weight of 16.5 tons. As part of the road train, the total weight is 28.5 tons. The MAZ 53366 body is made in the format of a metal platform with dimensions of 6100 by 2420 by 2330 mm. The rear and side sides can be opened. There are versions with and without an awning. The cabin of the car is enlarged and has 2 sleeping places. The model is equipped with a YaMZ-238M2 turbocharged diesel engine with a displacement of 14,866 and a power of 240 hp. Other features include leaf spring suspension, discless wheels and a 5-speed gearbox.

Currently, production of these modifications has been discontinued. In the line of the Minsk Automobile Plant they were replaced by the following versions:

  • MAZ 5336A3-320/ MAZ 5336A5-320;
  • MAZ 5336A3-321/ MAZ 5336A5-321.

The new modifications feature an improved design and new 6- and 8-cylinder YaMZ engines that meet Euro-3 environmental standards.

Various variations with special add-ons are also available.

Loading platform

This model is equipped with a metal cargo platform with folding sides. Additionally, the structure can be equipped with a removable frame with an awning that protects the transported cargo from external factors. The platform used has an area of ​​18.14 square meters. Moreover, its length is 7560 and its width is 2430 millimeters. The height of the tent body reaches 2250 millimeters.

In addition, other add-on options are offered. For example, manufactured goods and insulated vans, cranes, tank trucks, dump bodies, truck cranes and much more. All this allows us to significantly expand the scope of application of this truck.

Fuel tank capacity – 255 l.

A new car comes with a warranty of 200,000 km or 24 months.

The first scheduled maintenance is carried out after 20,000 km, the second maintenance - after 15,000 km, the third maintenance - after 30,000 km.

ENGINE

The latest MAZ 5336 models are equipped with 4 types of engines. The units are located longitudinally in the front area of ​​the cabin and are equipped with a pre-heating mechanism, which allows starting at sub-zero temperatures.

For modifications of MAZ 5336A3-320/MAZ 5336A3-321 diesel engines YaMZ-236BE2 (Euro-2) and YaMZ-6562.10E3 (Euro-3) are used. V-shaped power plants have a liquid cooling system, a turbocharger, an intercooler and a Common Rail fuel supply system. They are not demanding on fuel quality and operate effectively on Russian fuel.


Characteristics of YaMZ-236BE2/YAMZ-6562.10E3 engines:

  • working volume – 11.15 l;
  • rated power – 184 (250) kW (hp);
  • maximum torque – 1078/1128 Nm;
  • rated speed – 2000/1900 rpm;
  • number of cylinders – 6.

For the MAZ 5336A5-320/MAZ 5336A5-321 models, YaMZ-238DE2 (Euro-2) and YaMZ-6581.10 (Euro-3) units are used. These engines are characterized by direct fuel injection, a turbocharger and a charge air cooling mechanism.

  • rated power – 243 (330) kW (hp);
  • maximum torque – 1225/1274 Nm;
  • rated speed – 2100/1900 rpm;
  • number of cylinders – 8 (V-shaped arrangement).

Transmission

The MAZ 5336 transmission is considered one of the most reliable and has a long service life. The Yaroslavl Motor Plant is manufacturing the element for the series models. The basis of the transmission is a 4-speed manual gearbox YaMZ-2381, supplemented by a range-shifter. Thanks to this feature, the number of speeds increases (up to and maximum torque. All gears, except the rear, are equipped with synchronizers. The transmission also includes a double-disc clutch with peripheral springs and a hydraulic or pneumatic booster. The main gear is a spaced double, the cardan gear is double. Drive the bridge has a gear ratio of 5.49.

Cabin

The main one for the MAZ 5336 family is a sprung 2-seater cabin, which can be tilted forward using a hydraulic cylinder with a classic manual drive. The driver's seat is sprung and has adjustments for backrest and cushion tilt, height and length. The seat is equipped with seat belts. The driver can also adjust the steering column. The basic version does not provide a sleeping place. For models designed for long trips, a cab with 1 or 2 berths is available.

The interior of the MAZ 5336, in comparison with earlier versions, is distinguished by its large size and the presence of many shelves and compartments. The cabin has an improved sound insulation system and a rear protective device. The steering is equipped with an integrated hydraulic booster.

The MAZ 5336 cabin cannot be called modern, but the minimum set of parameters necessary for comfortable work is present in it.

Features and operation

Despite the fact that the MAZ 6303 cabin was developed a long time ago and is inferior in design to many Western competitors, overall it turned out to be successful. Experts note low noise and vibration levels, good visibility from all sides. Not only the driver's seat, but also the passenger seat has air suspension. In conditions of low temperatures, a comfortable stay in the cabin is ensured by the main and additional heating systems. However, the location of the heater tap under the cabin does not add comfort in severe frosts. Drivers also complain about the air filter cover on studs with nuts (instead of latches), which makes it difficult to quickly replace the filter element. Claims are often made about the location of the cabin hydraulic lift in a place unprotected from dirt. However, despite minor shortcomings, reviews of the car among motorists are mostly positive. In the basic configuration, the MAZ 6303 is equipped with:

  • Spoiler and protective device at the rear;
  • Backlash-free coupling;
  • Electro-pneumatic outlets for the trailer;
  • Seat belts;
  • Engine pre-heater;
  • ABS system.

The engines of the Yaroslavl Mechanical Plant of the 238th series installed on the MAZ 6303 do not cause any particular complaints. Depending on the intended purpose, power plants with a capacity of 170 to 400 hp can be installed. In general, the car is reliable, easy to maintain and repair, and is familiar to domestic drivers. There are no problems with the availability of consumables and spare parts, the price of which is significantly lower than for European and American analogues of the MAZ 6303.

Flaws

MAZ 5336 has a reputation as a very reliable car. However, the model is not without drawbacks. The main disadvantage of the series is considered to be high fuel consumption. The problem is especially obvious on older versions.

The MAZ 5336 cabin provides a minimum of comfort by modern standards. The car is unpretentious and can withstand enormous loads, but the ease of operation is not very good, which is immediately felt during long trips. The problem is partly solved by correct adjustment of the chair.

Versions from the late 1990s often have defects in individual elements. Similar problems in later modifications are the exception.

Price

MAZ-6303 is primarily a budget truck. The cost of this zero-mileage model now varies from 1.4 million to 1.6 million rubles for a minimally equipped truck. Various modified versions, including models with all-wheel drive chassis (6x6) and four-axle (8x4), have a higher cost.

A supported copy will cost between 600 thousand and 800 thousand rubles. Models released between 2005 and 2008 usually have this price tag. More recent ones are available at prices up to 1.1 million rubles.

The rental price for MAZ-6303 is on average about 1,100 rubles per working hour.
