History of creation

GAZ-3308 is a domestic truck that replaced the outdated GAZ-66 model, which became a real legend of the Soviet automobile industry. At the end of the last century, this car began to be supplied to the Russian army, where it proved its worth. However, the history of GAZ-3308 began long before that, in the mid-80s.

Engineers of the Gorky Automobile Plant, working on the creation and modernization of the GAZ-66, coped with a difficult task and designed a completely new car that meets all modern requirements. Thus, in the early 90s, the diesel GAZ-3308 was presented, which received many positive reviews and was ready for mass production. However, the economic crisis into which Russia plunged after the collapse of the USSR crossed out all the plans of the designers. Outdated models continued to roll off the assembly line, and the GAZ-3308 remained “to live” exclusively on the drawings.

Mass production

Despite the fact that all work on the modernization and assembly of the GAZ-3308 was completely frozen for ten years, the designers of the Gorky Automobile Plant decided to resume the assembly of new trucks. However, the lost time made itself felt. In order to launch the assembly line with new cars, it was necessary to revise the existing drawings and make significant changes to the design.

Thus, the GAZ-3308 received more powerful power units, became much more reliable and significantly increased cross-country ability. After all the formal procedures and tests of the model were completed, it was put on the assembly line. The first large order was made by the armed forces of the Russian Federation, which received the trucks already in 1997.

Car service

Maintenance of the GAZ 33081 “Jager” is carried out in the same way as for all models in the series. Since a diesel power unit is installed, the recommended service interval is 20,000 km. To preserve and increase the resource, it is recommended to reduce it to 15 thousand kilometers.

Having excellent characteristics, the GAZ-3308 has proven itself well while being in service with the Russian Armed Forces. Under the hood of the updated truck, a more powerful engine that meets Euro-4 requirements is installed, and new safety equipment is used, making the vehicle even more reliable. The final stage of modernization of the GAZ-3308 took place in mid-2014. The truck received the ability to transport larger loads, as well as a new name - “Sadko NEXT”.

Description of the design of GAZ-33081 “Sadko”

The cabin of the GAZ-33081 generally follows the design of the cabin of the GAZ-3309. It has a powerful metal bumper, two doors, a significant glass area, as well as a large hood that provides easy access to the power compartment. It has a volume of 4.75 liters and a power of 119 hp. s., which allows you to accelerate a car with two tons of cargo to a speed of 100 km/h on the highway. Of particular note is the high efficiency of the GAZ-33081 engine - fuel consumption is 16.8 liters per 100 km. The car can be equipped with a pre-start heater, which will greatly facilitate starting the engine at sub-zero temperatures.

The GAZ-33081 frame is completely identical to the GAZ-66 frame. The car's wheels are disc; they have single-pitch tires with a special tread pattern, which plays an important role when driving off-road. Military versions of the truck are equipped with larger wheels and a tire pressure adjustment system.

All cars of the Sadko family are equipped with a manual transmission with five gears. The GAZ-33081 transfer case has drive to the front and rear axles. The car's significant ground clearance (315 mm) allows it to freely overcome water obstacles. In addition, limited-slip differentials are installed on the rear and front axles, increasing cross-country ability. The transfer case gear number is 1.982, and the main gear of the drive axles is 6.83 and 6.17.

GAZ-33081 brakes provide high safety for driving this vehicle. This vehicle system is dual-circuit, with pneumohydraulic drive and ABS. Braking is carried out by drum mechanisms located in each wheel.

In the basic modification, the truck is equipped with a metal or wood-metal flatbed with a flat floor and a tailgate, as well as an awning with a frame. Power unit

Today there are three options for installing the engine on the GAZ-3308:

  • diesel from the Minsk Automobile Plant;
  • diesel from the Yaroslavl Automobile Plant;
  • gasoline from the Zavolzhsky Automobile Plant.

It is worth noting that it is the gasoline version that has proven itself best, which is purchased by the vast majority of customers. It is equipped with an eight-cylinder carburetor-type gasoline engine. The engine is capable of producing 122 horsepower, which is enough for the truck to easily overcome difficult sections of the road, such as steep climbs.

Many motorists note that when fully loaded, the car becomes less controllable. However, if the load is distributed correctly, no problems should arise. It should also be noted that the diesel version, unlike the gasoline version, has less power.

The engine is mated to four- and five-speed manual transmissions. They also install a mechanical two-way transfer case with direct and reduction gears and drive on all axles. The clutch is dry, hydraulic. The built-in carburetor has a pair of chambers. The presence of a liquid heater allows you to maintain the optimal temperature of the mixture, preventing it from overheating.

History of GAZ 3897

The beginning of the history of GAZ 3897 can be considered 1980. They tried to modify the Gaz-66, a unique car in its own way, and create a hooded truck with the same high cross-country ability. This is how the GAZ-3301 was born, the first prototype of the modern Sadko and Jaeger. There was another change from the drop-cab car - a diesel engine.

The modernization of the car continued, since there were such shortcomings as: poor maintainability associated with an insufficiently thought-out arrangement of engine elements, poor ergonomics and a low level of comfort.

In 1997, the following change occurred. The manufacturer presented it as a hybrid of two cars GAZ 3309 and GAZ-66. In the photo - the first one, inside - the second one. The growth in sales of GAZ-3302 indicates the popularity of the car. Moreover, the model itself is available today in two main versions: chassis and onboard version. The latter has already become a real bestseller in the segment of light-duty trucks. The affordable price makes the car more attractive compared to its competitors. However, the car is not without weaknesses.

The sides of the model's body are the main problem. In the first versions they had to be changed quite often. In rare cases they served for more than 10 years. In the latest modifications, the sides began to be primed, but this only saved it for a while. As a result, the metal had to be welded. The use of cathophoresis priming, double-sided galvanizing and phosphating of surfaces did not improve the situation.

The car is equipped with a spring-type suspension, the peculiarity of which is the presence of special telescopic shock absorbers. The design provides for the rear suspension to be equipped with a mechanism that reduces roll when cornering. The GAZ-3302 brake system includes drum and disc mechanisms. There is also a dual-circuit hydraulic drive with a pressure regulator.

The hydraulic booster is installed only on the latest modifications of the model. It is missing on older versions, which is a significant drawback. At the same time, the hydraulic booster itself causes a lot of criticism. Many car owners complain about regular leaks that recur over and over again even after the problems have been fixed. The reference mark is 10,000 km. If the hydraulic booster does not leak during this period, it will last for quite a long time.

The GAZ-3302 is equipped with a 5-speed gearbox, which also received a lot of critical reviews. Moreover, repairs usually give only a short-term effect, and the owner, who decides to save on replacing the gearbox, ends up spending much more money. True, for models released later than 2011, such problems are extremely rare.

The model has drum brakes at the rear and disc brakes at the front. This allows the driver not to worry about traffic safety, regardless of road conditions and speed.

But the handling of the GAZ-3302 leaves much to be desired. The car is made on a frame base and does not always clearly follow the driver’s commands. The model's suspension is designed for systematic cargo transportation.

Initially, the car was equipped with cabins that were not the best in terms of comfort. However, in recent modifications this element has changed a lot. Specialists from the Gorky Automobile Plant borrowed it from the light-duty Ford Transit, which added convenience. The GAZ-3302 cabin accommodates a driver and 2 passengers. The torpedo of the model immediately catches the eye, and an additional advantage is good visibility. Not the highest performance is compensated by safety.

Spare parts for cars are produced in large quantities, so finding them will not be difficult. However, the quality of the elements is not always high, since many enterprises produce them.

  • Lighting and electrical wiring in a car must be replaced every 10 years, as wires fall apart and circuit boards oxidize;
  • modifications before 2007 have a weak stove;

  • in versions released later than 2011, many problems were fixed and there were much fewer complaints about them.
