KamAZ-6520: power unit and fuel consumption. Transmission, power supply. Reviews

Kamaz trucks are equipped with not only engines produced in Naberezhnye Chelny. A number of models are equipped with American-made Cummins power plants, which are characterized by increased reliability, modern design that meets all modern requirements and legendary quality.

Not long ago, the Cummins assembly line was opened at the American-Russian joint venture Cummins-Kama and now all L-series engines are produced in Russia. In general, the following models of American engines are installed on Kamaz trucks:

  • ISLe
  • ISBe
  • ISXe15

Power varies from 185 to 375 hp. All these are, of course, diesel engines of Euro-3 standard, 4-6 cylinders, in-line with turbocharging. The service life of such engines is about 1 million km.

These are one of the most versatile powerplants in the American manufacturer’s lineup; they have long been working on medium-duty and heavy-duty trucks, as well as in buses, tractors and other equipment, which is why Kamaz installs them on its vehicles. But Cummins engines supplied to Europe and sold in America are structurally different, mainly due to differences in environmental standards. For the European market, a small letter “e” is added to the model names.

KamAZ-6520: modern heavy-duty dump truck

Due to the rapid development of the construction industry, the need for heavy-duty dump trucks has increased. The Kama Automobile Plant began developing such a car, the first copies of which rolled off the assembly line in 2003. Since then, KamAZ-6520 has remained a leader in the heavy dump truck segment; the vehicle is in demand and is still in production today. In addition to the construction industry, the truck is often used as a timber carrier, grain carrier, KDM (combined road vehicles), concrete mixer trucks are installed on the chassis, truck cranes are mounted, and other manipulators.

KamAZ-6520

By its design, the KamAZ-6520 is a three-axle chassis with a 6*4 wheel arrangement and a front-mounted engine. A distinctive feature of this model is an all-metal welded platform that can withstand heavy loads. Thanks to the impressive size of the body and large load capacity, the KamAZ-6520 received the nickname Mammoth.

Despite the fact that the production of KamAZ-6520 began in 2003, when the plant had already mastered the production of new cabs, the dump truck was still equipped with an outdated cab, designed back in the late 70s of the last century. However, already in 2004 the car was restyled and it received a more modern and comfortable cabin with a modified bumper and headlights. Two comfortable chairs were installed in the cabin (the driver's seat has adjustments in several planes), the driver received side mirrors with improved visibility and an adjustable steering column with power steering (power steering). Currently, the interior is equipped with air conditioning and a three-section modern instrument panel with anti-reflective coating is installed here. Some cars are equipped with a berth.

Today you can buy a new KamAZ-6520 dump truck at a price of 4,800,000 rubles. On the used equipment market, the price of a truck depends on the technical condition, year of manufacture and mileage. You can purchase a car in working condition for a price ranging from 1.5 to 3 million rubles.

KAMAZ and Cummins in one bottle

Under the cabin are Russians... “Americans”!

Alexander TROKHACHEV, photo by the author

It’s hard to believe, but the first visit of Cummins top managers to the Kama Automobile Plant took place 30 years ago, back in 1987! And it was not idle curiosity: the result of the negotiations in Naberezhnye Chelny was the start of small-scale production of KAMAZ-5410 truck tractors with 10-liter Cummins engines. In 2004, the medium-tonnage KAMAZ-4308 (4x2) with an American engine bearing an emblem in the form of the letter “C” was launched on the market (Russian carriers call it the horseshoe of happiness). Already in June 2006, a joint venture, Cummins KAMA CJSC, was established to produce American engines in Russia. The business partnership between the parties began with a screwdriver assembly, and today more than half of the components have been localized. The cylinder block, cylinder head, crankshaft, flywheel and other parts have Russian markings. The current lineup includes B-series engines with a displacement of 4.5 and 6.7 liters. And since March 2017, the 8.9-liter L series has been put on the assembly line. Many of these power units were under the cabs of exhibition trucks. And, of course, various Cummins engines had trucks prepared for test drives.

All these trucks are equipped with turbocharged diesel engines produced at the CUMMINS-KAMA joint venture in Naberezhnye Chelny.

Dump truck KAMAZ-65115-A5 (6x4): small, but bold!

Around the world, Cummins paints its engines red, blue, gray, black and coats the metal with a heat-resistant clear varnish. KAMAZ was offered red, but for reasons of practicality, black was chosen. Firstly, the frame, chassis parts and attachments have the same color. Secondly, oil stains and other contaminants are not so noticeable on dark paint. There are probably other arguments in favor of black.

KAMAZ-65115-A5 is not the largest in the family of Chelny dump trucks, but it is not the most expensive in terms of retail price.

So the KAMAZ-65115-A5 (6x4) dump truck with a 10 cc platform has a black engine. For a vehicle with a gross weight of 25 tons, capable of also hauling a 15-ton trailer, a 6-cylinder in-line Cummins ISB 6.7e5 Euro-5 diesel engine with a turbocharged displacement of 6.7 liters was chosen. It produces 292 horsepower at a crankshaft speed of 2500 rpm, has a compression ratio of 17.3:1 and develops a maximum torque of 1087 Nm at 1300 rpm. The specific engine power is 11.7 hp. per ton allows you to reach a maximum speed of at least 100 km/h and take inclines of at least 25%.

Of all the trucks participating in the test drive, KAMAZ-65115-A5 received a licensed Russian-assembled Cummins before others. Here is a Cummins ISB 6.7e5 300 (Euro-5) with a maximum power of 292 hp. at 2500 rpm.

However, this is a theory that dump truck drivers often do not understand. In practice, the response of the engine is more important, and it is decent. A dump truck without loading can start moving from third gear and quickly responds to gas supply. In areas with ice, the car shakes without loading so much that there is not enough free movement of the sprung seat. As a result, the fifth point receives impacts even at low speed, and as a result the impression is blurred. The discomfort is due to the stiff spring suspension and short wheelbase of 3190+1320 mm. Consolation is provided by grippy drum brakes and an outer turning radius of 10.7 m.

Standard dump cab for two, without suspension and berth.

There are no complaints about the car's dynamics - it drives briskly when empty! Due to the cable drive, the switching algorithms of the mechanical nine-speed ZF 9S1310 are somehow archaic. They definitely require skill and getting used to. By the way, the box is also jointly produced - ZF-KAMA. And it’s time to change it to a model with automatic switching - all of Europe has gone this way, why are we waiting? And it would be good to check the capabilities of the dump truck when fully loaded: will it lose its advantages with the American “horseshoe”?!

Golden mean - KAMAZ-6520-K4 (6x4)

The red dump truck of the popular KAMAZ-6520-K4 model with a 16-cc body is also equipped with a Cummins, and a more powerful one. The ISLe400 40 turbocharged diesel model (Euro 4) has a displacement of 8.9 liters and a compression ratio of 16.6:1. The potential of the Russian “American” is expressed in figures of 390 hp. useful power (at 2100 rpm) and 1680 Nm of maximum torque at 1400 rpm. With such a straight-six engine, a car with a curb weight of 13 tons and a payload capacity of 20 tons is capable of taking inclines of 14º (at least 25%) and reaching a maximum speed of at least 95 km/h.

In its modern version, KAMAZ-6520-K4 is better than ever before. He is at the peak of form and functionality. The power potential of the Cummins ISLe 400 40 (Euro-4) engine is 390 hp. at 2100 rpm.

The cabin on this “builder” is the same as on the 65115-A5 model: double, without a berth. But you feel much more comfortable here. The higher seating position provides better visibility. The increased front overhang of 1350 mm (versus 1260 mm) creates a feeling of security. The wheelbase extended to 3600+1440 mm and the air suspension of the cabin reduce the level of vibrations - compared to the “younger brother”, shaking is almost unnoticeable. And what’s surprising: with an overall length of 7830 mm, the outer turning radius at the corner of the bumper is 10.3 m versus 10.7 m on the KAMAZ-65115-A5 with a length of 6980 mm!

Torque from the engine is transmitted to the drive wheels of the KAMAZ-6520-K4 by a mechanical 16-speed gearbox ZF 16S1820.

The impressions from the dump truck are very good: the start is confident, the acceleration is assertive. Thanks to the 390-horsepower Cummins ISLe400 40 (Euro-4) for this! The ZF 16S1820 manual 16-speed gearbox with remote control by the notorious cable seems outdated compared to foreign cars of the same class. Whatever you say, Europeans have been standardly equipping dump trucks with automatic transmissions for several years now, and offer manual transmissions for an additional fee. We don’t have “automatic machines” on construction KAMAZ trucks yet...

King of builders - KAMAZ-6580-K5 (6x4)

A real bouquet of positive emotions was presented by the KAMAZ-6580-K5 dump truck with a cab on the Mercedes-Benz Axor frame. Spring-loaded at four points, it effectively dampens vibrations and provides the driver with a higher level of comfort. This is a completely different level! There are no wretched handles or outdated switches, no screw heads are visible, and you won’t dare say a bad word about the designers. Everything is done humanly! Even gear shifting on a manual 16-speed ZF 16S2220 TO gearbox without a cable is much softer and more “civilized”. Dump body "Becema" 16 cubic meters. m is placed on a new powerful frame. It fit perfectly into the design and, together with reinforced drive axles, provided the vehicle with a curb weight of 14.8 tons with the ability to carry 26.2 tons of bulk cargo.

A Krasnogorsk dump truck is mounted on a KAMAZ K4141 (6580-K5) construction chassis. Do you recognize the characteristic Mercedes interior? And this is a KAMAZ cab built on the Mercedes-Benz Axor cab frame!

The maximum speed declared by the manufacturer is at least 75 km/h and overcoming hills with slopes of 18º (at least 30%) is ensured by the most powerful Cummins produced in Chelny. We are talking about the ISG 12e5 (Euro-5) model with a potential of 419 hp. in the range of 1400-1800 rpm, with a maximum torque of 2093 Nm at 1000-1400 rpm. The fuel tank capacity is the same as on the two dump trucks mentioned above - 350 liters, plus a 70 liter AdBlue tank. Is it not enough to work far from a gas station?

Drive axles of the most prestigious dump truck from Naberezhnye Chelny today.

The wheelbase here is 3510+1440 mm, the front overhang is slightly larger than its predecessors - 1475 mm. An approach angle of 19º, a departure angle of 27º and ground clearance of 330 mm allow you to safely maneuver on a construction site. With an overall length of 7930 mm, the outer turning radius is 11 m. If we take into account the additional equipment (pre-heater, autonomous cabin heater, air conditioning, audio preparation), then KAMAZ looks no worse than its European counterparts, not to mention vehicles of this class from China and Asia.

The KAMAZ K4141 dump truck (6580-K5) has a Cummins ISG12e5 diesel engine (Euro-5) with a maximum output of 419 hp. at a crankshaft speed of 1400-1800 rpm.

What do you like about this dump truck? Convenient entry and exit from the cabin. Low level of noise and vibrations in motion. Stable engine operation in different speed ranges. And in short - a set of advantages. This is, in fact, a budget “European” at a more attractive Russian price - our answer to the West!

KAMAZ-65225 RG “Batyr”, tractor from RIAT

The all-wheel drive truck tractor KAMAZ-65225 RG “Batyr” is designed to operate as part of road trains with a gross weight of up to 59.3 tons. Such capabilities are provided by the original design of OJSC RIAT and the 6-cylinder in-line engine ISLe C375 (Euro-4). The engineers squeezed 375 hp out of a working volume of 8.9 liters. (at 2100 rpm) and made the engine capable of driving peak torque to 1533 Nm at 1400 rpm. This engine is lighter than a domestic one of comparable power and at the same time has a service life of up to 1 million km.

The red and black coloring suits “Batyr”: it makes him more recognizable and brutal. The tested “Batyr” had a double-pitch tire and a wheelbase of 3600 mm, and there is also a modification with single-pitch tires and a distance between the axles of 4070 mm.

The Batyr test model with a KAMAZ-6522 transfer case and a cab with a lower bunk had dual-pitch tires on the rear wheels measuring 12.00 R20. But there is also a modification of the tractor with single tires 425/85 R21 at the front and 1300x530-533 at the rear. In any case, the vehicle's cross-country ability is enviable: the climb angle is at least 10º (18%). It is provided by an approach angle of 39º, a short front overhang of 1320 mm and a rear overhang of 720 mm. The manufacturer guarantees a maximum speed of at least 80 km/h. And the overall turning radius with a length of 7230 mm does not exceed 11.5 m. Needless to say: a decent truck with decent equipment! Even a 500-liter fuel tank is optimal in volume: you can walk away from the gas station and don’t need to carry extra diesel fuel with you.

Behind the Batyr’s cabin there is a bracket for spare parts with a winch lift.

On a factory ring of no more than 3 km in length, new cars coming off the assembly line must drive at least 52 km. I didn’t have such a time opportunity, and I only completed two laps. However, there were enough of them to fall in love with this car for its behavior on the road. The only thing that confused me was the manual gearbox with a reverse shift pattern: quite tricky for higher gears. However, these are particulars. In general, KAMAZ passed the test exam! The presence of a Cummins engine under the cab of each of the trucks made them more economical, efficient, and commercially attractive. This means that the competitiveness of Chelny cars among their classmates has become one step higher. However, no one thought it was just one!

The diesel Cummins ISLe C375 produces a net power of 375 hp. at 2100 rpm and develops a maximum torque of 1533 Nm at 1400 rpm.

Power unit and fuel consumption of the KamAZ-6520 heavy-duty dump truck

The debut modifications of the truck were driven by a KamAZ-740.51-320 V-shaped diesel engine (Euro 2), equipped with a turbocharging and intercooling system for charge air. The engine had a displacement of 11.76 liters and a rated power of 320 horsepower. At that time, most heavy KamAZ vehicles were equipped with this power unit. However, the engine was not very economical, as a result of which it was replaced by more modern turbodiesels.

Cummins ISLe +350 . Modern six-cylinder turbodiesel with in-line cylinder arrangement. The engine has a displacement of 8.9 liters and a rated power of 334 horsepower. The engine is equipped with a Common Rail fuel system and an HX40 turbocharger with an adjustable exhaust tract. We also note the presence of air intercooling technology, which reduces emissions of harmful substances into the atmosphere. The Cummins ISLe +350 engine meets Euro 4 standards.

KamAZ 740.63-400. This power unit complies with Euro 3 standards, it has a displacement of 11.76 liters and develops a rated power of 400 hp at a crankshaft speed of 1,900 rpm. Structurally, the engine is a V-shaped “eight” with a turbine and an intercooling system for charge air.

The dump truck is equipped with a fuel tank of 500 liters, sometimes an additional tank with a filling capacity of 350 liters is installed. Fuel consumption depends on operating conditions and engine. KamAZ-6520, equipped with a domestic engine, consumes up to 45 liters of fuel in the summer; in winter, consumption rates increase by 7-10 liters. Cummins ISLe +350 engines are more economical and consume 12-15% less diesel fuel than domestic counterparts.

Transmission, power supply KamAZ-6520

Even the pre-restyling versions of the KamAZ-6520 dump truck were equipped with a modern ZF-8S1820 gearbox manufactured by Zahnrad Fabrik. This eight-speed manual transmission ensured comfortable operation of the car and was highly reliable.

Today, the bulk of KamAZ-6520 vehicles are equipped with a 16-speed manual transmission ZF 16S1820. The transmission consists of a main four-speed gearbox with a divider and range. The advantages of this box include low noise levels, ease of gear shifting and the ability to use a ZF intarader (secondary retarder). The interaction of the engine with the gearbox is carried out using a single-disc diaphragm clutch with a hydraulic booster and a pneumatic drive.

The car's electronic and electrical systems are powered by two 12-volt batteries with a capacity of 190 A/h. A voltage regulator is installed in the driver's cab, and the truck is also equipped with a powerful two-kilowatt 28-volt generator.

Brakes and suspension KamAZ-6520

Like most vehicles from the Kama plant, the KamAZ-6520 is equipped with drum-type brakes with energy accumulators, which provide acceptable safety when driving on public roads. The diameter of the brake drum is 400 millimeters, the width of the brake pads is 180 mm. In addition to the main brake system, the truck is equipped with a spare, parking and auxiliary brake. Even the first versions of the KamAZ-6520 were equipped with the ABC anti-lock braking system, which avoids wheel locking during emergency braking.

The front suspension of the car is made in a combination of semi-elliptical longitudinal springs and hydraulic shock absorbers. In addition, a stabilizer bar is installed here, which prevents the car from dangerously rolling. The rear part of the suspension is made in a similar style; semi-elliptical springs are also used here, and a transverse stabilizer is installed to increase angular stability.

Made in Russia: Cummins engines for KAMAZ

In Naberezhnye Chelny, the Russian-American joint venture Cummins KAMA launched a new assembly line for Cummins L series engines. The event was preceded by a display of KAMAZ trucks equipped with Cummins engines of various series, including L. During the show, we were able to drive all the proposed vehicles . I want to share my impressions of the cars I have passed through my hands

Sergey Zhukov
A little about the event itself. The launch of the new assembly line took place in the presence of the vice president of Cummins Inc. Steve Chapman, management of the Russian representative office of the company and top managers of KAMAZ. Everyone noted the significance of this event, aimed at strengthening business contacts, as well as further promoting the partnership.

Those present were given the opportunity to tour the entire production cycle of Cummins engines and become familiar with the engine product line. We will devote a separate material to the production of engines, which we will publish in one of the upcoming issues. In the meantime, a few words about the ISLe series.

This series combines the advantages of a lightweight and compact motor with the structural strength of heavy motors. It provides high technical performance while meeting high environmental requirements. With a weight of just over 700 kg, the engine is not bad for use in trucks for various purposes operating in Russian conditions. It provides the maximum level of torque in comparison with its classmates.

The ISLe family has already found its application on heavy trucks and KAMAZ-6520 chassis, special equipment produced by RIAT OJSC. In the future, the localized version will be installed on agricultural and off-road equipment from other Russian manufacturers.

It should be noted that the Cummins Kama production program traditionally includes two families of engines. The lion's share - about 80% - is made up of Cummins ISBe6.7 inline sixes with a power of up to 300 hp. With. These units are successfully used on medium and heavy KAMAZ trucks, as well as on NefAZ buses. The rest of the output is made up of Cummins ISBe4.5 diesel fours, available in the power range from 140 to 185 hp. With. Moreover, both engine families are offered in both Euro-4 and Euro-5 versions. Since March 2022, the Cummins Kama JV has expanded its product line by launching the assembly of L-series engines with a displacement of 8.9 liters and power up to 400 hp. With.

In addition, Cummins Inc. supplies more powerful engines to Russia, in particular, the 12-liter ISG series, which are produced at the Cummins Chinese assembly plant.

Actually, the test drive of KAMAZ trucks with Cummins engines was prepared so that everyone could see with their own eyes the prospects of using these engines on Kama trucks.

FOR CONSTRUCTION SITES IN RUSSIA

The presented machines fully reflected the current market situation. Dump trucks and dump chassis KAMAZ-65115 and -6520 were among the best-selling equipment at the end of last year. The new generation of vehicles was covered by the KAMAZ K4141 construction dump truck. The joint development of KAMAZ and its subsidiary RIAT showed the possibility of creating special equipment according to the orders of operators.

General purpose dump truck KAMAZ-65115-A5 with three-way unloading

So. A little more about everyone. KAMAZ-65115-A5 is a general-purpose dump truck with three-way unloading with a lifting capacity of 15 tons. The machine is most efficient when working with a tipper trailer, which is what the truck design provides. The 10-cc platform was manufactured at NefAZ. The dump truck is designed to operate as part of a road train with a total weight of up to 40 tons.

Naturally, there was a Cummins engine under the cab. In this case, ISB6.7e5-300 (Euro-5). The power of the power unit is 292 liters. s., maximum torque 1087 Nm. The engine was coupled with a 9-speed ZF9S1310 gearbox. Other features worth noting are a 350-liter fuel tank and a 35-liter AdBlue tank, as well as the installation of Medved I-467 tubeless tires with a size of 11.00R22.5.

The car is equipped with a Cummins ISB6.7e5-300 engine with a power of 292 hp. in Euro 5 version

Here it would be appropriate to recall the features of the Cummins ISBe series. First of all, it is low fuel consumption (savings compared to analogues are up to 12%). The best weight in the class is 465 kg. It allows you to increase the vehicle's payload and improve fuel efficiency.

Simplicity of design, modularity, fewer parts leads to reduced dimensions, reduced weight, increased reliability, and reduced maintenance time.

Naturally, such a machine is most effectively used as part of a road train.

This power unit is optimal when used in conjunction with a ZF gearbox. The Kama Automobile Plant offers both 9- and 10-speed manual transmissions for installation. It is possible to use power take-off directly from the engine: up to 520 Nm in constant mode.

The construction dump truck with rear unloading KAMAZ-6520-K4 with a carrying capacity of 20 tons is suitable for transporting large volumes of inert cargo or for the construction of zero cycles, also associated with a large volume of excavation work. Dump truck platform developed by NefAZ. Useful volume 16 m3.

The new generation of Kama trucks was presented by the KAMAZ K4141 construction dump truck with rear unloading of the same purpose as the previous exhibit, with the only difference being that the dump platform was manufactured by the Moscow region. The dump truck's load capacity is 26.2 tons, useful volume is 16 m3, with heating.

The power plant is Cummins ISG12e5 (Euro-5). Its displacement is 11.8 liters and its power is 419 hp. s., maximum torque 2093 Nm. The engine is imported and produced at the Cummins Chinese assembly plant. It is combined with a 16-speed ZF16S2220TO gearbox.

Cummins ISL8.9e4-400.40 Euro-4 (390 hp) installed under the cab

The car is distinguished by the installation of a comfortable cabin on a 4-point suspension from the Mercedes-Benz Axor, a new powerful frame and reinforced drive axles. The consumer can count on a pre-heater, air conditioning, auxiliary heater and audio preparation as additional equipment. The fuel tank has a capacity of 350 l, the AdBlue tank is already 70 l. The dump truck is equipped with KAMA NR701 M+S tube tires with a size of 12.00R24.

As a “dessert”, an acquaintance with a special offer was prepared - the KAMAZ-65225RG “KAMAZ-Batyr” all-wheel drive truck tractor produced by RIAT, a subsidiary engaged in the production of special versions of trucks.

The machine can be supplied to the customer both on a double-pitch and single-pitch tires, and in two standard sizes for installation at the front and rear

This truck tractor is designed to work as part of a road train with a total weight of 75,360 kg. Typically, such tractors are used in conjunction with a trawl for transporting construction equipment or heavy indivisible loads. The permissible load on the saddle is 22 tons.

The car is equipped with a Cummins ISL8.9e4-C375 (Euro-4) engine with a power of 375 hp. With. with a maximum torque of 1533 Nm. The engine works in conjunction with a 16-speed ZF 16S1820TO gearbox.

The tractor is equipped with a Cummins ISL8.9e4-C375 Euro-4 with a power of 375 hp.

The equipment of the complex machine includes hood insulation, cabin insulation with Hermetic Vikar material, an autonomous Webasto Thermo 90 engine pre-heater, electric heating of the fuel intake, engine coolant heating from a 220 V network, and an autonomous cabin heater "Planar". In addition, the tractor is equipped with hydraulic equipment (an NPH-61 hydraulic pump with a PTO at the rear end of the gearbox, a 145-liter oil tank heated by engine coolant), as well as a roll bar behind the cab with two spare wheels (with single tires) and a protected fuel tank for 500 l. We were shown a car with a dual-pitch tube tire - KAMA 402 M+S with a dimension of 12.00R20. However, at the customer’s request, a single-pitch tire is provided: front - 425/85R21, rear - 300x530-533.

STILL IN DEBT

After a close acquaintance with the presented trucks, for some reason a sacramental phrase from a well-known film came to mind. If it were reinterpreted in relation to this situation, it would sound something like this: “The domestic manufacturer is still in debt.”

All-wheel drive truck tractor KAMAZ65225RG "KAMAZ-Batyr" is designed for transporting heavy indivisible cargo on trawls

It seems that the chassis is perfect, the engine is excellent, and the gearbox is good, but all together it’s somehow not very good. It seems that the cars were collected as punishment for future sins. This is exactly how KAMAZ-65115-A5 and KAMAZ-6520-K4 can be characterized. They seem to drive normally and steer well, but in a day you get so caught up in them... This is especially true for the effort on the gearshift lever and the clarity of the gear shift.

Is this why there are often cases when a consumer, to his own detriment, goes to the extent of almost completely overhauling a truck before putting it into operation?

Dump truck of a new family - KAMAZ-K4141, similar in purpose to KAMAZ-6520-K4

KAMAZ-65225RG “KAMAZ-Batyr” differs from its counterparts for the better, since it was not assembled in a hurry on the main conveyor, but in the production of small series. But even here there were some oddities. I still don’t understand why it was necessary to reverse the gear shift pattern. I remembered a funny incident at GAZ in the late 1990s. We tested the all-wheel drive "Countryman". There, too, they got tricky with switching. We ask what the salt is. And it was more convenient for us. More convenient for whom?

By the way, such a practice, against the backdrop of a general decline in the qualifications of the driving staff, can lead to fatal consequences for the equipment. Thus, the “main customer” of KAMAZ, when operating similar vehicles, albeit with greater power, was faced with the problem of poor training of recruits. The clutches burned like matches. The customer asked to solve the problem. The installation of a GMF was proposed. I liked the idea. It just remains to be seen whether he pulled off such a package.

Unlike its brother, the tipper chassis, at the request of the customer, was equipped with a superstructure of a Moscow region

Well, KAMAZ K4141 is heaven and earth. Yes, it is a pleasure to work on such a machine. It’s nimble, it steers, and it’s comfortable in the cabin. The most important thing is that the gears shift like clockwork. But even here there was a fly in the ointment. Is it really that difficult to get the steering wheel straight? The attitude towards the product and its quality begins with the little things. If you care about the brand, they simply cannot exist.

In general, something like this. In any case, the consumer will judge the car by the final result. Let it be equipped with the most modern, powerful and economical engine, which is Cummins, but if the sum of the little things exceeds the critical mass, then no engine will save this truck from market failure.

The machine is equipped with a Cummins ISG12e5 Euro-5 power unit with a power of 419 hp. This is an imported engine supplied from Cummins' Chinese plant.

In conclusion, we note that the warranty for the B series engine for KAMAZ vehicles is 3 years or 200 thousand km. mileage Car supply agreements specify similar conditions. The L series warranty is 2 years or 400 thousand km. This is also reflected in the contracts for the supply of KAMAZ trucks.

IN PASSING

Cummins Kama CJSC celebrated its 10th anniversary in June 2016.

The production facilities of the joint venture, thanks to the use of the most modern equipment with a high degree of automation, are compact, occupying an area of only 14,100 m2. Starting with a simple screwdriver assembly of engines, the joint venture gradually moved to full-fledged production activities, having mastered all technological processes for machining the cylinder block and localized more than 50% of the components, including the cylinder block, cylinder head, crankshaft and flywheel.

Vice President of Cummins Inc. who took part in the launch of the new L series engine assembly line. Steve Chapman and the general director of Cummins Kama JSC carried out the “final assembly” of the new engine, tightening the bolts on the cylinder heads. The first batch of 10 motors is already ready to be sent to the customer.

What they say on the forums: reviews from owners and drivers of the KamAZ-6520 dump truck

Alexey Nikonov, 50 years old, Smolensk region:

Our company currently operates three KamAZ-6520s. We bought them new, now they are a little over two years old, with mileage from 80 to 95 thousand. In general, the car is not bad, although it is not very cross-country - it is better not to go onto a country road. The cabin is quite comfortable and has everything you need to drive the truck. Of course, there were some breakdowns; I had to replace the steering tie rod on my dump truck. Another problem (and not only of this KamAZ) is that the radiators - sometimes it seems that they are made of foil, soldering is useless - also had to be replaced.
