All the main components of the machine are manufactured by the same company that produces it. This applies to the power plant, hydraulic motors, tires and transmission.

Among the main advantages of the excavator are:

  • several types of control: EasyControl - automatic, Advanced EasyControl - semi-automatic, as well as manual control. This allows the operator to control the equipment with the greatest comfort;
  • The degree of inclination of the working body is adjusted using an electromechanical system. This prevents material from spilling out of the bucket during loading and unloading;
  • the handle can be installed in two types - telescopic or from separate levers;
  • efficiency due to low fuel consumption - 8 liters per hour of operation;
  • automatic return of the working body to its original position;
  • the ability to track the position of the JCB 4CX excavator via satellite through the installation of the LiveLink system;
  • To increase the stability of the machine, an SRS system is provided, which reduces dynamic impacts. This has a beneficial effect on the operator’s condition even during long working hours;
  • The presence of modern TorqueLock technology has improved the basic technical characteristics of the loader. Now the radius of rotation of the handle and the speed of performing work operations have increased by 10%, and the working area has increased by 20%.

Before delivering a product to the market, the company tests it. This applies to each individual model. It is tested on highways, operational stands and in laboratories, and is tested under difficult climatic conditions and in aggressive environments. Therefore, JCB boldly declares the equipment’s ability to operate at temperatures down to -40 degrees, exposure to chemically aggressive environments, ultraviolet radiation and salts.

Scope of application "JCB 4CX"

Where the volume of work is constantly at a premium, the use of the JCB 4CX is more effective and economically justified than its less powerful “brothers”. Because this backhoe loader performs a significantly larger volume of work in a specific unit of time than the JCB 3CX and its classmates. This helps to unload other equipment and, in the future, reduce the overall financial costs of a company or entrepreneur.

"JCB 4CX" allows you to quickly develop, lay, compact and load soil, as well as move it around a construction site or other work site. The JCB 4CX is the heaviest and largest tractor in the JCB series of wheeled excavators, but at the same time it is very compact. This backhoe loader feels confident in any confined spaces. The JCB 4CX backhoe loader has a mechanical system for compensating the angle of the bucket when lifting the boom, which prevents spillage of material during loading operations.

JCB 4CX's work in the construction industry involves digging pits, leveling and clearing areas; loading and moving crushed stone, gravel, sand, construction waste, etc. In road transport - laying new roads and junctions, bridge construction. In public utilities - digging trenches, moving soil and building materials when laying new pipelines, utility networks, and performing various repair and emergency repair work. In addition to standard equipment, the tractor allows the installation of a wide variety of additional mechanisms - road milling machines, impact breakers, jaw buckets, forklifts.

Advantages and disadvantages

The multifunctional machine successfully performs its main task: the device digs, plans, and transports bulk materials. He does it quickly and carefully. Here are the main advantages of the technology, voiced by users:

  1. Automatic compensation of the bucket angle during boom lifting. The technology eliminates soil spillage when working on inclined surfaces.
  2. Mechanism for parallel lifting of the loading bucket. The unit relieves the operator of the need to manually control the position of the working body in space.
  3. Ability to move independently between construction sites. The excavator does not need an additional tractor for delivery to the work site.
  4. Equipping the machine with a number of auxiliary equipment. Attachable tools can break concrete or stones, compact buried soil, mill asphalt, and dismantle buildings.
  5. Economical consumption of fuel and lubricants.

Along with the positive aspects, a foreign brand also has negative aspects. As I have said many times, the price of the device and subsequent maintenance is high. In addition, equipment owners unanimously declare that they lack open information on the repair and restoration of equipment.

Device

Power steering with three steering modes is standard. The loader can turn with two or four wheels, and also rotate the wheelbase in the other direction.

Application area

The machine is designed primarily for use in construction and public utilities. A front-end loader is used for loading or moving bulk materials, planning territories, and lifting heavy objects. Earth-moving equipment is used when digging holes, trenches, and pits.

In addition to standard mechanisms, additional ones are installed on the excavator. They expand the machine’s capabilities for cleaning areas, dismantling or erecting buildings. In addition, the JCB 4CX can act as a pumping station for connecting hand-held hydraulic tools.

Hydraulic system

The high efficiency of work performed by Jisibi 4CX is due to the installation of a hydraulic system with three pumps, which provides the necessary pressure and speed of hydraulic flow at low engine speeds. It allows you to reduce fuel consumption by 15% and the concentration of harmful substances in the exhaust. A positive feature is the increased service life of this type of system. Among the machines in its class, the JCB model is the most efficient. The hydraulic flow has a capacity of 81 liters per minute of operation.

Hydraulics

The hydraulic system is designed to accommodate the increased lifting capacity of the JCB 4CX tractor and the breakout forces of the six operational and general purpose buckets, as well as the use of loading forks. Excavator hydraulics are an open center system with two independent flow pumps and a fluid flow regulating device.

  • pump capacity – 81 l/min;
  • pressure in the bypass valve – 25165.8 kPa;
  • the volume of fluid in the hydraulic system is 127 liters.

The standard Open Center hydraulic system is equipped with three gear pumps, a system that regulates the speed and power of the HSC hydraulic line. The system, through a control valve in auto mode, changes the power of the hydraulic drive and the speed of production operations.

The Eco Dig system with three hydraulic pumps provides high hydraulic power and pressure at lower engine speeds, and thus saves up to 15% of fuel without reducing machine performance. The part of the hydraulic system that moves the Powerslide excavator linkage, built-in forks, the Extradig system, and the extending handle are just some of the innovations proposed and implemented by the company’s designers who developed the backhoe loader.

JCB 4CX axles

The front and rear axles are driven. They were designed specifically for this model loader tractor and are designed to work with different types of tires. Axle type - mechanical gearbox with planetary torque transmission and self-locking differential. The load on the bridges in a static state is 25 tons, in motion - 15.5 tons. Oscillation angle – 16o.

Operator's cabin

JCB 4CX operator station

The small dimensions of the JCB 4CX excavator were not the reason for installing a small cabin. It is comfortable and ergonomic, and is designed for productive work throughout the entire shift. To ensure comfort and reduce operator fatigue, the cabin is not only soundproofed, but also sealed. The noise level inside does not exceed 75 dB. To reduce slipping when climbing into the cabin, relief steps are provided. They provide traction between the shoes and the structure; water does not collect in them, which prevents slipping.

JCB 4CX dashboard

To suppress vibration and sway, there is air suspension on the operator's seat, as well as rubber shock absorbers and an insulating layer for the cab. In addition, the chair has a heating system, adjustable suspension and armrests. The steering column has a non-slip coating that reduces the load on your hands, as well as a handle to increase maneuvering speed.

JCB 4CX Cab Entrance

To control the JCB 4CX excavator, a liquid crystal panel is provided with information about system errors or failures, the amount of fuel in the tank and operating hours. From the cab you can view the work site 360 degrees, this ensures safety and productivity of work. The rear window is convex, it opens a view of the trench that the machine is digging. All cabin glazing is made of tempered laminated safety glass, which is not destroyed when objects fall on it from a height or the machine rolls over (FOPS and ROPS safety systems).

JCB 4CX steering wheel and control levers

If necessary, you can change individual parts of the glazing. To make reversing safe, large curved mirrors are provided. Inside the cabin there is lighting, a 12 V connector, and a large compartment for storing things and tools.

The JCB 4CX boom, located at the rear of the vehicle, is attached using a lock that prevents it from oscillating while driving.

Control, cabin

The loading equipment has an automatic leveling function (the horizontal position of the bucket when lifting and lowering is adjusted automatically). A return to dig feature is also available, which reduces the time it takes to return the bucket to the required position. Another system is called Extradig; it increases the boom reach and, as a result, allows you to move the machine around the construction site less often.

Ease of operation and maintenance

The main functional units are located on one side of the machine to ensure simple and quick maintenance, reducing downtime of the JCB 4CX tractor. They can be monitored every day.

To open the hood of the vehicle, you do not need to remove body parts. The battery is located in the front part and is secured with a grille. The hydraulic tank is located on the side and can be accessed from ground level, providing lubrication and refilling of the necessary elements in a short time. The JCB 4CX loader does not have a dust filter or pre-filtration system, this makes it possible to simplify the design. Instead, an exhaust pipe is used, which increases the life of the air purifying filter. An additional fuel filter carefully separates contaminants. To quickly and easily change hydraulic hoses, they are located in the manifold part.

Maintenance

To prevent breakdowns, JCB designers have provided a number of solutions. Thus, the boom carriage hoses are located in a flexible guide, and the boom and arm hoses are located inside the rear structure of the machine. The U-shaped boom longitudinal beams are covered with metal plates, which also prevents damage to the hoses. There is optional protection for the bucket jaw hydraulic cylinders and taillights.

The cabin floor covering and fuel tank are corrosion resistant. And for work on sites with an increased risk of puncture, tires with liquid filler are offered.

According to the manufacturer, axles and transmissions of JCB 4CX backhoe loaders have a standard service life of 12,000 hours. At the same time, they are designed for high shock loads. Thus, the permissible static load on the rear axle is 25,000 kg, dynamic - 12,500 kg.

JCB 4CX front bucket

You can buy a JCB 4CX in a standard assembly, where the working body is a jaw bucket with a volume of 1.1 m3. It is sufficient to perform basic loading and unloading operations. If the operator is sufficiently qualified, loading material into a 7 m3 body until it is completely filled takes about 3.5-4 minutes with the shortest reach.

During a work shift, the JCB 4CX excavator is capable of excavating 90-110 m3 using the rear-mounted bucket. If it is necessary to load soil into the machine, productivity drops by approximately 10%.

Reviews from machine operators and JCB 4CX owners

First, about the advantages of the model. There are many functions and many specific applications that can be done with this technique. Digging, leveling the soil, loading or transporting – that goes without saying. In addition, it simply shows “jewelry” work with a hydraulic hammer: you can’t even pick up a jackhammer. The JCB 4CX also mills well (that is, removes the top thin layer of concrete or asphalt).

Both the front and excavator parts demonstrate real power in operation. The system for raising and lowering the front bucket parallel to the ground is very convenient and reliable. An important point here is that only JCB has this option implemented due to the design of the boom without any mechanisms or sensors, that is, it will not break or become clogged with dirt.

The hydraulics practically do not heat up during operation. The tractor can easily move from object to object under its own power, and this does not lead to significant material or time losses.

Naturally, the level of comfort in the noise- and dust-proof cabin of the JCB 4CX deserves the highest praise. Working in such conditions is a pleasure, and you won’t experience physical fatigue for a very long time.

Now about the disadvantages that the owners and operators of the JCB 4CX noticed in the direct operation of this backhoe loader. The rear tires wear out faster than we would like. The tail lights are too low. As a result, when moving in reverse, they can easily be smashed against any pile of construction waste, of which there is plenty at any site.

The hinges on the excavator boom are subject to rapid wear. The hydraulic cylinders of the front linkage are of low quality and fail.

Numerous complaints about the quality of work of the official representative of JCB in Russia -. As long as the backhoe loader is working properly, everything is going great, but any breakdown (especially if it is repaired under warranty) can lead to indecently long downtime of the equipment waiting for spare parts and the repair itself (up to six months!). Moreover, the authors of such claims do not necessarily live in some remote regions of Russia. Muscovites also often point out these significant shortcomings in the work of the dealer.

Naturally, the high cost of both the backhoe loader itself and the spare parts/consumables/components for it (especially, as they say, “with this course”).
