Economic inertia is the main problem of many budgetary organizations. The main thing is to master the budget, use quotas and prevent a decrease in funding. And no one cares that huge amounts of money are being used irrationally. Fortunately, there are enterprises where management thinks modernly and is looking for innovative solutions. An example is the Mosvodostok utility company.

The state unitary enterprise "Mosvodostok" was created for the operation and repair of the capital's hydraulic structures that collect surface wastewater in the city, transport and treat it. The company's responsibilities include maintaining the city's storm drainage system and maintaining nearly one hundred thousand sewage wells in good condition. To clean and repair them, a huge fleet of vehicles is used - about 100 units of equipment. In this case, one repair team uses several vehicles at once: a minibus for transporting the team, a mobile compressor (in the back of a truck), a truck crane, an onboard vehicle for transporting replacement well elements, and a cover vehicle with a bright light alarm, since work is often carried out directly on the roadway .

This entire armada, consisting mainly of cars of domestic brands, quickly depreciates, requires constant repairs and consumes a lot of fuel. A simple mechanical renewal of rolling stock postpones problems for some time, but does not solve them completely. To reduce operating costs, qualitatively new equipment is needed, but, like any state-owned enterprise, Mosvodostok is limited in finances, and the problem must be solved without increasing the burden on the budget.

"Chaika-Service 4784FY"

The three-way dump truck is based on the Hyundai HD78 truck chassis. The machine is equipped with a Chaika-Amco Veba 807NT-2S crane-manipulator unit with the ability to use a grab with a volume of 0.25 m3. It is in demand among builders and utilities: more than a thousand trucks have already been distributed to customers.

The simple, reliable Hyundai HD78 chassis can be serviced and, if necessary, repaired in any region of Russia.

A dump truck, capable of unloading from three sides, is indispensable when carrying out work in confined spaces, for example, when arranging inter-yard areas and in small-scale construction. The loading platform, made of steel, is highly resistant to corrosion. The flaps, made from Fuhrmann profiles, are very durable and have no hidden cavities, which again reduces the likelihood of corrosion.

Suitable car

This is how the idea came up to make the vehicles of repair teams multifunctional, so that one unit in the team could replace all the others. This will allow you to purchase for the same money not 3-4 domestic cars, but one imported one, of higher quality and reliability, having a longer service life and requiring less attention. Along the way, this will reduce the cost of owning cars and save on fuel (one car consumes less than three), driver salaries (one instead of three), car maintenance (consumables are reduced by three times) and the salary of car mechanics, of whom there will also be fewer.

A universal vehicle must provide comfortable conditions for transporting a team of 7 people, transport the necessary equipment for construction and repair work, have an onboard cargo platform with a lifting capacity of 2 tons for transporting two reinforced concrete slabs (1 ton each), a hydraulic manipulator that will mount them, and a compressor for work.

A suitable Hyundai 78 car with a two-row 7-seater cab has already been produced from Nizhny Novgorod. The same company installs Amco Veba and Tadano CMUs on various chassis and has its own production of modern onboard platforms. All that remained was to connect all these elements in one machine to make it convenient to work.

Especially for companies in the energy sector, the plant produces an auto-hydraulic lift with an increased horizontal reach, “Chaika-Socage TT320”. The mass-produced special vehicle is built on the chassis of the Sadko Next truck (C41A23) with a 4x4 wheel arrangement. A four-wheel drive truck delivers repair crews to sites located away from public roads. The lifting machine is characterized by a large horizontal reach of the working equipment. The boom, the main element of the Chaika-Socage TR320 AGP, is produced at the company’s own facilities. The lift cradle allows you to work on power lines with voltages up to 2000 Volts. At the customer's request, the auto-hydraulic lift is produced in a northern version (lower operating temperature limit -50 °C).

Expensive, but reliable

Additional equipment includes a trailer coupling device (for example, a trailer with light signals to indicate repair work on the roadway), two additional hydraulic outlets (pressure is adjustable from 50–250 bar, performance is changed by the engine speed controller) for hydraulic tools: pump, milling cutter, hammer.

Already at Mosvodostok, compact and less noisy Japanese compressors were installed on the cars. At the same time, the exhaust pipe of the car is located in such a way that it heats the compressor: when you arrive at the place, the compressor is warm, ready to work.

The machines manufactured and modified according to the requirements of Mosvodostok turned out to be expensive - the cost without a compressor is about 2 million 500 thousand rubles, but the company is confident that only these machines will allow them to run their farm more efficiently.
By the way, Mosvodostok expects to train its specialists and receive a certificate for independent maintenance of new machines. Technical characteristics of the Chaika-Service 4784RB car

Automotive organized a press tour to Nizhny Novgorod, the purpose of which was to demonstrate the capabilities of special vehicles produced by the plant. This is the GAZ-33088 “Taiga”, as well as two, at first glance, ordinary Hyundai HD78, but all the cars turned out to be all-wheel drive, and the appropriate track was chosen for the test.

Let us remind you: the automobile company began its activity twenty years ago. The company is located in Nizhny Novgorod and is engaged in installing special superstructures on truck chassis. These can be auto-hydraulic lifts from 14 to 70 meters, loader cranes, tow trucks, dump trucks, etc. In addition, the plant has its own production of modern flatbed platforms and produces unique double-row cabins with seven seats.

At the exhibition “STT - 2013” held in early summer, AZ “Chaika-Service” presented two new products. At first glance, these are ordinary Hyundai HD78s, which are very popular as a chassis for mounting specialized superstructures, while their scope of application is limited to asphalt. The plant decided to eliminate this drawback and retrofitted two HD78 rear-wheel drive chassis with front drive axles, as a result they are now capable of operation in difficult road conditions: outside the city, in the forest and on rough terrain.

Following this, in early October, AZ “Chaika-Service” organized a press tour to Nizhny Novgorod, during which it was possible to get acquainted with the new products in more detail and evaluate their driving characteristics. By the way, Chaika-Service is the only one in Russia that upgrades Hyundai HD78 cars to all-wheel drive. The popular all-wheel drive GAZ-33088 Taiga was also available for a test drive.

All-wheel drive GAZ-33088 “Taiga”, the premiere of which took place a year ago

Let's start with the last one. The premiere show of the GAZ-33088 “Taiga” took place last fall. An extraordinary car from the “Taiga” series is a modernized GAZ-33081 “Sadko” chassis, on which a two-row 7-seater cabin of our own production and a rotation van were installed. Thanks to this, the designers managed to combine comfortable conditions for long trips or stays and high cross-country ability. The Taiga cabin accommodates 7 people. The second-row seats are foldable, making it easier to both move around inside the cabin and place things under the seats. Additionally, this makes it possible to transport large equipment in the cabin. The van body is divided inside by a partition into two compartments. In the front there are 4 sleeping places and a multifunctional folding table. The rear compartment is designed for transporting tools, equipment and improvised materials. In our opinion, the spacious cabin of the Taiga could be equipped with additional storage shelves, since there is plenty of space for this, as well as hooks for outerwear.

Two Hyundai HD78 all-wheel drive trucks were also available for testing. One of them was equipped with a double-row 7-seater cabin, a cargo platform and an Amco Veda 808N-2s crane. With a length of 8200 mm and a wheelbase of 4835 mm, the vehicle has a load capacity of 2.5 tons. The CMU is located behind the cabin, and the sides of the cargo platform are made of Austrian Fuhrmann profile, which is less susceptible to corrosion and maintains an aesthetic appearance for a long time. To transport the necessary equipment, four additional tool boxes are installed under the loading platform. The interior space of the cabin is sufficient for convenient transportation of a work crew of seven people.

In the front compartment of the cabin there are three seats for passengers and the driver, in the rear compartment there are four seats with reclining seats. With the seats folded, the high rear part of the cabin can be used as a living compartment, for example for changing workers' clothes or for transporting additional equipment or inventory. Thanks to the sliding window, passengers in both compartments can easily communicate with each other. For routine maintenance or repairs, the enlarged cab is raised using a telescopic cylinder and hand pump. With the cabin raised, access to engine components and assemblies is quite convenient.

The rear compartment of the cabin is equipped with a door on the right side, as well as a ladder that extends when you press a button on the door

A Russian-Italian telescopic aerial platform Socage T319 was installed on the second all-wheel drive Hyundai HD78 chassis. The new model of the hydraulic lift has the main difference that the boom with the cradle is located above the cab, and not in the rear overhang. This model is characterized by the following indicators: maximum load capacity of the cradle - 250 kg, maximum reach - 13 m, maximum height - 19 m. To ensure the operation of the lift, the base chassis must be completely suspended above the surface of the working platform; for this, the hydraulic lift is equipped with four supports. This model, with a lifting height of up to 19 meters, has stabilizing supports that practically do not extend beyond the dimensions of the vehicle. Therefore, such a tower can be used in cramped road conditions, for example within a dividing strip, without interfering with moving vehicles.

All-wheel drive is an option and is installed on the standard rear-wheel drive Hyundai HD78 chassis to improve off-road performance and handling. That is, Chaika-Service purchases the necessary set of parts in Korea and independently installs the front drive axle on a standard rear-wheel drive truck chassis. As a result, a city car is able to confidently move over rough terrain, which significantly expands the possibilities of its use. Externally, the all-wheel drive HD78 features increased ground clearance and longer suspension travel.

There is a sign on the front panel indicating how to correctly engage all-wheel drive.

This is what the all-wheel drive lever looks like in the Chaika-Service 3784FP cabin

The same broken front axle hinge on a flatbed truck with a CMU

The test drive took place in the suburbs of Nizhny Novgorod on a site that included a broken dirt road, a forest road, grassy hills, a swampy lowland and a sand quarry. In general, what you need for 4x4 vehicles. And even the rain that poured in buckets at the beginning of the event did not spoil the mood at all, but only made the route more impassable. We spent the whole day kneading mud and storming steep slopes in off-road trucks that confidently overcame all the delights of off-road. It is worth admitting that the Taiga turned out to be faster than the Hyundai. This is a real all-terrain vehicle. At times it seemed that there were no limits to her capabilities. But the “Koreans” also did not lose face and confidently crawled along the muddy dirt road and damp sand - none of their colleagues ever got stuck during the races. True, one car was still broken at the end of the event, or to be more precise, the right front axle joint on a flatbed truck with a CMU failed. And the point here is, rather, in the design than in the inexperience of the driver; he did not commit any criminal actions, but simply tried to rock out of the sandy rut, and at that moment something crunched in the front axle, and the car stopped rooted to the spot. The wheels of the front axle jammed, and the truck, naturally, could no longer move on its own. “Taiga” had to take the onboard Hyundai HD78 in tow and rescue it from sandy captivity. They dragged him to the road, where, having disconnected the front axle, the HD78 was able to move on its own, albeit at low speed.

After the breakdown, the Taiga had to take the onboard HD78 in tow

In the process of getting to know the all-wheel drive Hyundai HD78, we noticed different ways to engage all-wheel drive. For a vehicle equipped with an aerial platform, the 4x4 mode is activated using a lever in the cab, while for an onboard vehicle with a CMU, the activation is pneumatic. The plant representative was immediately asked the corresponding question. It turned out that the standard option is electro-pneumatic activation, and the mechanical drive for engaging the front axle is still only an experimental development.

All-wheel drive Hyundai HD78, on which a telescopic lift with a Socage T319 cradle is mounted

In conclusion, it is worth saying that Hyundai HD78 all-wheel drive trucks are not conquerors of serious off-road conditions, although no one set such a task for them. But delivering a team of workers to a remote site along a muddy dirt road or an icy and snow-covered road, taking two and a half tons of cargo on board, is not a problem. As for the Taiga, it is a real all-terrain vehicle. We hope that not only workers of various services, but also fishermen and hunters will pay attention to it.

IN PASSING

After getting acquainted with the all-wheel drive Hyundai HD78, we decided to find out some technical points regarding the configuration features and warranty conditions on modified cars. This is what the plant's press service told us.

— In the process of getting acquainted with the all-wheel drive HD78, we paid attention to various ways to engage all-wheel drive: for the AGP (Chaika-Service 3784FP), the 4x4 mode is activated using a lever in the cab, and for an onboard vehicle with a CMU (Chaika-Service 3784FB), the activation is pneumatic. What is the reason for this difference in design approaches? Does this affect the final cost of the car?

— Mechanical all-wheel drive is our experimental development. In the future, we plan to upgrade the Hyundai HD78 to all-wheel drive, using only pneumatics (that is, using buttons).

— On a car with a CMU, we were interested in the mechanism for lifting the cabin. If we draw an analogy with heavy trucks, then special requirements must be imposed on such units from a safety point of view. Explain how the Chaika-Service 3784FB vehicle implements the insurance function in case of a full or partial rollover of the cab.

— HD78 double-row cabs are equipped with a hand pump and a hydraulic cylinder that facilitates the process of lifting the cab. The hydraulic cylinder is equipped with a hydraulic lock. When the cab is completely tipped, there is a special lock that is inserted into an eye on the car frame. In other cases, when partially tipping, the support is the hydraulic cylinder rod itself.

— The presented HD78s are equipped with 7.50R16 tires. Are there other tire options for the all-wheel drive version?

- No, there are no other options.

— Please check the information on the engine that is equipped with all-wheel drive HD78. Are there any differences from the single-wheel drive version?

— The engine that comes with the car is installed by the manufacturer. In this case, it is a D4DD diesel engine (Euro-4) with a power of 140 hp. c. There are no differences from the rear-wheel drive version.

— What are the warranty conditions for all-wheel drive Hyundai HD78? How is the maintenance issue resolved? Will owners have problems with a special range of spare parts?

— The warranty on the all-wheel drive Hyundai HD78 is 1 year. Owners will not have any problems, since we directly supply spare parts from Korea, and the plant can sell them both directly and through a network of service stations.
